--President Donald Trump addressed the 68th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on February 6, prompting moments of applause as he affirmed the sanctity of human life and touted the administration's work in prison reform and international religious freedom.

"All of us here today affirm these timeless truths, " the President said. "Faith keeps us free. Prayer makes us strong, and God alone is the author of life and the giver of grace."

Echoing some of his themes from the State of the Union address on Feb 4, Trump mentioned the administration's efforts in upholding innocent human life and religious freedom, noting domestic efforts to combat anti-Semitism and discrimination against Christians, and reimplementing the Mexico City Policy, which disallows federal funding of international abortions.

"In everything we do," Trump said, "we are creating a culture that protects freedom, and that includes religious freedom."

Speaking of the passage of the bipartisan prison reform law known as the First Step Act, Trump said the law is "proving more and more that America is a nation that believes in redemption." Trump credited people of faith for championing the cause "...long before it was fashionable. I want to thank you."

This year's theme was "Love Your Enemies,"- based on Matthew 5:44--a difficult task in a divided partisan political culture.

Vice President Mike Pence, who spoke prior to Trump's address, said: "At this National Prayer Breakfast, I'd encourage you to, in these divided times, pray for America, for all of the American people."

The president has appointed over 200 men and women to the federal bench--jurists who overwhelmingly are committed to the honest reading and faithful application of the Constitution. Our military preparedness has improved dramatically after years of neglect. And the culture of life has prospered in the past four years.

As I survey the actions and policies of the past four years, I am hard-pressed to think of any president in my lifetime who has more effectively advanced policies friendly to Biblical values that evangelical Christians of all races and denominations hold dear. All of these things could change forever if former Vice President Joe Biden wins the presidential election in November. He has committed to not only undoing the faith-and family-friendly polices we have seen since January 2017, but advancing a "progressive" agenda that far exceeds the anti-life, and anti-faith policies of the Obama administration.

As Abraham Lincoln said, "If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we will live forever or die by suicide."

This election is about stemming a tide of national self-destruction. It is no time to sit on the sidelines and bemoan what what some see as two fatally flawed candidates. The reality is that one of them will be elected. It is my hope and prayer that we all do our part through prayer and voting to ensure that America's future is not clouded by a denial of all that has made us what Lincoln also called "the last, best hope of earth."
