Hello All,

Is it safe to chelate with DMSA if you have a bridge. I understand most many bridges contain nickel, I'm not sure if it is wise to chelate with a metal like nickel potentially in my mouth?

Can somebody please advise?

DMSA only chelates mercury and lead as far as I'm aware. As long as you do not have amalgams in your teeth, it should be ok.
Someone may advise otherwise, but I personally cannot see a problem.

Thanks Bex, I think I have done something a little stupid (not unusual for me, it's often a combination of brain fog and a desperation to get well asap). I started DMSA this week (for the first time) with 33mg every 4 hours. Initially I felt fine and after about a day I started to get a buzzing in my brain. To complicate things further I have a cold so I am no longer sure if the issue with my head is related to the head cold or DMSA/nickel or an expected consequence of DMSA pulling metal out my body. I’m aware that DMSA Doesn’t chelate metal from the brain so I ended up stopping the chelation cycle.

When I had my amalgams removed about 10 weeks ago, I also requested that I had my bridge material analysed, I have sent an email to my dentist to see if the results have come back.

Hmmm, I know DMSA is not mean to chelate brain mercury, but it sure felt like it did for me at times! Some people feel a pulling/stinging/burning sensation too in the brain. Aching also, kidneys/muscles etc. And at times excessively tired during chelation, particularly as the round goes on. First day maybe ok, but yes, after that, things can start to happen. For me, it was often after day 2 and sometimes it took longer for me to really start feeling it and I'd have to quit and take a break.

I hope I have not given you wrong advice! I would feel awful. If you do not feel comfortable with this, then by all means, quit and perhaps ask somebody who would know more!

Metal does not belong in the mouth. Any metal will set up a reaction inside the body. I was very very ill when I had braces on my teeth (nickel), even worse than amalgam for me (though it was likely the combination). Surely they can get you a bridge made out of a more biocompatible material? ie. zirconium or something?

Also, if you do chelate, probably better to wait till you get over the cold and make sure you're taking supportive supplements (A, E, C, B complex, magnesium, zinc, milk thistle etc) and essential fatty acids (mercury free fish oil is good = molecularly distilled). You can get some very reasonably priced fish oils that are purified.

That's really interesting. I didn't realise you could get those type of symptoms from the so called body chelators. It's got me thinking. As I have requested the results from my dentist (instead of waiting for my next appointment - early December), I think I will err on the side of caution on hold off for a while. The intention is to replace the bridge if it's contructed with nasty metal.

Of the supplements you mention I am taking most of them, with the exception on Milk Thistle (thanks for the reminder I will buy some more tomorrow). Maybe they are not of high enough quality, or perhaps I am not absorbing them, but I don't tend to feel any difference for taking them. I have ordered some sublingual B complex so it will be interesting to see if I get anything out of these.

The only things that have an effect on me are taurine (helps me focus), adrenal extract (energy), iodine (tends to relax me) and Rhodiola Rosea (energy). My justification for continuing to take the ones that seemingly have no effect is as an insurance policy against poor quality soils, polutants, etc.

I used to take fish oil, then get scared and stopped due to the mercury. I then realised I must take some of this important supplement so I ordered some Blue Ice, but this was £35!. Thanks for recommending "molecularly distilled" I have just done a search and found Now brand at a much more reasonable price (on sale for £6), just off to order some.

Instead of using fish oil, why not eat low mercury fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, and herring? Eating these in moderation won't hurt. I usually eat these just while I am in the middle of a chelation round.

IMO, Why take the risk of taking in more mercury, even in "moderation"? when there are supplements with not only low mercury fish oil contained, but the oil is then tested/purified.

I tried sardines because of the low mercury and Im pretty sure I had effects from that. Similar to what happened when I started having kelp mixed with ocean sea salt. Nothing dramatic, but certainly something and I didn't feel comfortable continuing it.

I got no such effects from molecularly distilled fish oil, but rather appeared to gain some benefits.

Each to their own though. Perhaps I am really hypersensitive to toxins/metals and I have to be extra careful. I'd just be careful because the last thing you want to do is take in any mercury whilst you're attempting to detox it.
