My Story / Situation
I have about 12 or so Amalgam fillings. I want to remove them all.
I'm American but live in Asia currently.
There are some 'mercury free' dentists but I am not 100% confident in their abilities. Some major hospitals in Thailand offer Amalgam removal following IOAMT guidelines. But they don't mention chelation at all.
In Malaysia there is a doctor that offers his own chelation potion and has a panel of dentists he recommends. I quizzed him on their technique and he admitted they aren't that sophisticated. And his potion is proprietary. It didn't feel right.
I have read quite a bit about Amalgam removal but as there is so much info with so many directions I would like others' opinions before taking the leap. I need help.
Removal: I have a dentist that can follow the IAOMT procedures (Thailand).
Can I have more than one filling removed per week?
I have to travel to another country to get the work done so it will be expensive and time consuming.
Chelation (pre): What are the current best practices?
Where is the best place to buy the supplies? I am in Asia and finding the supplies will be difficult. I would just buy some and import them.
Chelation (post): What are the current best practices?
Chelation (long term): When does a person know they are mercury free? I have been infected so long I won't know if I am back to 'normal'.
Rage: Has anyone experienced rage when chelating?
My History;
As I child I had several fillings. I ate a lot of candy (we had a store) and sodas.
In junior high I made an about face and started lifting weights and became aware that you are what you eat. I still ate some junk food but slowly reduced intake until I rarely ate chocolate or drank a soda. I could bench 300 lbs / squat 400 lbs and do almost unlimited pull ups. I had a very good diet.
Gosh, I guess I have had mercury problems since right after university. I was in Asia studying and working in the late 80s / early 90s. They didn't sell bottled water at all so when I was thirsty I had to have a coke. My diet in general wasn't so great as I was living in dormitories.
I returned to the USA with some dental problems. I had to have several fillings and one of my teeth (with a filling) broke and I had to have a cap put on it. Looking back I now realize that after the dental work I was sick. Later, my stomach stuck out even though I was in good physical shape. I had some weird reactions and allergy like symptoms. I started losing my hair. I had pink eye that wouldn't go away until I found a Doctor of Vietnamese ethnicity who knew what to do. I had intended to take my experience in Asia and get a job at a company. But I lacked the energy to do so. I basically had CFS for almost a year. And I discovered I couldn't live without sodas (Caffeine). I started a 2 can a day Mountain Dew habit.
I moved to Texas and started working. My energy had improved but still wasn't 100%. After one hot Texas summer I felt much better and returned to Asia. I started a consulting firm and it grew quickly.
Normally I am a high energy miracle worker. I had many achievements before I was out of high school. So even though I was still viewed as above average I felt like I had an anchor attached to me. The weight of the anchor went up and down - but it was always there.
My diet was great at the time. I still had a two soda habit but other than that ate well.
In 2004 I had a filling fall out. I didn't go to the dentist - too busy.
By 2005 the cavity hit the root and I had to have a cap put on. Also had more fillings put in, teeth cleaned and the previous cap replaced.
I have almost every email I ever sent / received. Checking back I was sick right after the dental work. My gut went bad. Basically I got sever IBS. I also had sever CFS. At the time I blamed it on overwork, the stress of getting married, etc.
I moved to a warmer county in Asia in 2006. Felt much better after a few months. Started golfing and looking back I felt great after that. Golfing here is a HOT and SWEATY affair. I would drink at least a gallon of water and not pee once.
Then my playing partner left, wife pregnant, etc so stopped playing golf. I felt crappy again - but as I had a newborn and some business problems I blamed it not them.
Health Check Ups: All of my physicals up to 2005 were perfect. I have always had slightly low cholesterol. From 2005 I had slightly elevated cholesterol. So I changed my diet over time. My 2009 physical showed the same elevated cholesterol. But I had completely changed my diet. When I met with the nutritionalist the diet she recommended wasn't a good as my actual diet.
So I assumed it was not enough exercise.
Along with this I had various problems. My neck would get stiff. Hands lost sensation. Mood up and down. Libido up and down. Memory problems. Vision poor. Poor concentration levels. Pain in joints. I had a prostate problem and the urologist recommended a Testosterone test. I had low T.
So I joined the gym Dec 31st.
I started at the gym mainly lifting heavy weights - following advise to boost my T. At the same time a golf membership for a course near my home came up for lease Jan 10th - so I took it.
So I was back and forth from the gym to the golf course everyday. I walked the course - and it is hard as it is a hilly jungle course. I was back to sweating A LOT.
I had a hard time at the gym as my recovery was poor. I would work out but be sore for 3 - 4 days.
But soon I was SUPERMAN! My workouts took off and I was soon lifting heavier and heavier weights - people started to watch me bench. I had an erection most of the day. My mind was sharp and I was highly motivated again. Memory problems were fading.
I also had a lot of rage. I had physical altercation with some 'douche bag' driver that tried to take a swing at me. He was down in 3 seconds and I picked him up (his whole body) and put him in a choke hold. Wow, I was 18 again.
My marriage was strained a bit but the wife got used to the 'new me.'
I then took the family to the USA for a business project for two months. I was fine when I got there. I ate well as there was a great organic store nearby and we had a great house with a great kitchen. I played a lot of golf as the weather was nice. I didn't workout so much as the only gym was one in the association and had crappy machines. Over time my 'ailments' came back. My libido showed down (just as we were trying for our second). General malaise took hold.
We returned to Asia and I started right back at the gym. Then I started working out with a guy who was very fit. I had a small 'boost' but not like before. I worked out more often and harder - still no super boost.
And I stopped walking while golfing. I started playing with some professional golfers and used a cart and didn't sweat so much. I played less frequently.
I tried everything to recreate the Super Boost I had early in the year - but no luck. Back then I had take some various supplements, etc. Tried them again but no impact.
Then I read about the effects of mercury poisoning and Amalgam fillings (about a month ago). Wow, that is me!
And recently I read that sweating heavily and draw out mercury. Well, that is probably what has been happening for the last 10 years. When I am in a hot country and sweating for a few weeks my mercury levels drop and the symptoms fade away. Once the sweating stops the mercury starts building back up.
So I golfed a few times last week and started to wake up in the morning with an erection. Hmmm….
Anyway, as stated above, I am going to have my poison removed. I hope my old self comes back minus the rage! The rage might be my drive being locked up for so long. I have always been a very bold and driven person - with no fear of failure. But I have never experienced rage in my life until now.
Oh, by the way I was able to solve my IBS by taking anti-yeast herbals. I followed it with an herbal colon cleanse.

To help fight the yeast, you need to go on a sugar free low carb diet. Get rid of the Mountain Dew. For caffeine drink coffee or tea without sugar. If you need to use sweetener then use stevia. Make sure the stevia isn't mixed with sugar, corn syrup, or sugar alcohols like sorbitol. Imo getting one filling removed a week doesn't make sense. I guess the right way to do it is to have one quadrant at a time worked on. If you need inlays, onlays, or crowns, it might require folow up visits(unless you find a dentist that uses Cerec). When an amalgam filling is removed, the blood mercury levels will rise temporarily, and it may take a month for them to get below the level they were previously. So a good strategy might be to have a quadrant done(I guess this is probably 2-5 fillings depending on how yours are distributed), then wait at least a month before having the next quadrant removed. Working on a quadrant at a time will minimize your exposure to novocaine. As for chelation, use the Cutler protocol, starting with just DMSA, then later adding alpha lipoic acid(ALA). http://onibasu.com/wiki/Cutler_protocol

Thanks.
Maybe I wasn't clear- I stopped all sodas or processed foods long ago. My diet is very good now. No yeast problems either - gone already.
Also, I am on to the Cutler protocol. I undertsand that it has to be followed exactly otherwise you may end up with more Mercury floating around the body. I am trying to get his book but being overseas it is not easy. Does one really need the book?
What can I do to lower Mercury levels before Amalgam removal?
What should I do to prepare for the removal?

For me it was more hot drinks than anything. I would get an increase in the uptake of mercury from my amalgams after drinking hot fluids. Not "so" much from hot food, because it wasn't nearly as hot as the cups of teas or other hot drinks I had.
Moderate exercise was also helpful for me with mercury poisoning. Helped with circulation, sweating, lungs etc and in doing that, naturally I expelled some toxins and I'm sure some metal as well, though it's not "chelation", it was still helpful. By moderate exercise, I mean walking (outdoor and/or treadmill) and rebounding on a rebounder can also be helpful. I found walking the best for me personally. Putting my treadmill on an incline increased the intensity enough to make me sweat more and puff a little more. I did not overdo it, as overdoing exercise can also have the effect of too many toxins being mobilised at once.
I had hot baths to help induce sweating and would add a cup or so of epsom salts (or combination of baking soda and sea salt). This helped also. Only have the bath as hot as you can tolerate. Do not have it where it makes you feel light-headed/woozy. The added epsom salts/baking soda/sea salt help with inducing sweating also.
Antioxidants like a good quality vitamin C (powder form containing bioflavanoids worked best), vitamin E, and selenium (taken 2 hours away from vitamin C for more effectiveness) helped me with mercury. Mercury free fish oil (molecularly distilled) too. Those were the bare minimum however. If you react too strongly and badly to selenium, you may have to lower the dose, or stop taking it if it's clear it's not for you. It does appear to have an effect with mercury. Though it is thought of as protective and helpful in mercury toxic situations because it competes with mercury for binding sites and is one of the elements mercury depletes. I heard it maybe better tolerated in the form of selenomethione. I would not take anymore than 150 - 200 mcg personally.
Avoiding sugar is very wise, as it seems you are doing. This is essential in my opinion. Sugar lowers immunity, upsets blood sugar levels and aggravates or even causes yeast problems. Also, another one is wheat/gluten. Typically causes problems. I hear wheat is treated with mercury fungicide, but also contains gluten. Gluten intolerance can be common in those suffering from mercury/candida, because some of us cannot digest the gluten properly. In fact, when I used to consume wheat/gluten, I'd get almost immediately poisoned by it. Basically anything containing gluten. I had no idea it was impacting my health as much as it was. Getting rid of sugar/gluten/wheat/ and yeast (as I had candida) had a very positive impact on my health, even with amalgams still in my mouth. But I had a few weeks of detoxification/die off to go through beforehand after I had eliminated them however. Not fun, but it was worth it for the results.
Diet is very important. Without changing it and eating healthy, I was unable to gain many (or any) benefits from supplementation. Which probably meant I could not absorb/utilise them properly. Once I got my gut/liver improved by getting rid of sugar/gluten/wheat/yeast, supplements became an added bonus.

Thanks.
I will try selenium and I will cut out gluten/wheat/yeast. Already taking C with bioflavanoids.
I don't drink anything hot. I have green tea in the morning but add some juice to it so it isn't hot.
Currently by gut is perfect. I am as regular as can be. Though in the past my gut was hell. All started after going to the dentist. I used some anti-yeast herbals and changed my diet.

You shouldn't be chelating before the amalgam removal. Yes, I have experienced rage when chelating. Lower the dose but wait until you have removed the amalgams. In the meatime you can buy the book or keep researching.

Hi MercuryAsia, I am also located in Asia. I found dentists who can do the mercury removal protocol, however I also have problems with root canal (with toxins inside as well). I am looking forward to clear my root canals first before embarking on replacing the amalgams. I will be going to new dentist next month (in NZ though, have exhausted choice here in Asia ) How about you? Have you removed it? Maybe you can share with me which dentist you went to. Just want to check with you if it's a good dentist. ERM
