Hello everyone. First i want to say how helpful and inspiring this whole website has been to me in the past few months. I stumbled across it quite accidentally and it has been such a good help for me. So thanks to you all for your advice, stories and information.
My name is Wendy, I am 40 years old, married with 4 kids, eldest is 19yrs youngest is 1.5yrs. My current health status is ‘fluctuating between toxic waste dump and inner city recycle unit’, ha ha ha. Got to laugh or i would cry.
I am now half way through my amalgam removal. Going to Sylvia Andrews in Loughborough, who i really recommend, i know there are some on here who really are strict about types of drill used etc and i don’t think she would meet with that criterion. But TBH, its always going to be hard going through the removal, i needed to find a dentist i could trust and she really is great.
I had about 16 amalgams, 4 were root canals, most were large and deep. Had my first one at 9yrs, had my first migraine at .........9yrs. Although the migraines that came frequently after that were never contributed to the mercury in the amalgam. Since then its been a bit of a roller coaster. Had issues with my reproductive system, hit puberty did everything a female is supposed to at that age,,,except menstruate. In the end, at 17yrs, my mum said ‘enough’ and took me to the docs. He sent me to the endocrine clinic. Where the nice consultant took one year to observe and do tests. Then finally decided to give me some ‘pills’, which i later found out was clomid. So i finally ovulated, and finally became a ‘woman’. Ha ha ha. However his solution was short lived, my crazy hormones never worked properly and i have always had problems, amenorrhea, anovulation, etc. Wasn’t until 2006 that i was finally diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome. Even though i had self diagnosed myself well before that. Had to go to a fertility specialist in Egypt to get the diagnosis.
I suffered headaches frequently, along with the migraines. That was really all that was going on in the early years. I would get a new filling each dentist visit, despite excellent cleaning, six monthly visits i still got cavities!!!!! I changed dentists thinking that she was just drilling for cash. Found a new dentist, she took a look in said, all clear. Well done your doing a good job. I was shocked first time i ever heard that. So i decided to keep to her. Sadly before the next six months was over she had moved and i needed to see another dentist. Who got straight in with the drill. And once again i was being drilled every six months. I cannot work out how a root filling would have been necessary in someone who had good cleaning, and was cavity free six months previously. In the end with a mouth full of amalgam, which i hated, i stopped going to the dentist. I had a ‘’gold’’ inlay fitted at my last dental treatment, and it was from then that my health started to deteriorate fast.
The migraines and headaches increased, my head throbs, no pain just throbs especially in the occipital area, low grade fevers, periods of having ‘flu’ without all the sore throat etc, just the aches and fever, the glands in my neck would swell and deflate for no reason, i started to get achy joints in my arms and hands periodically. My hair was falling out all the time, I could see my scalp easily through it, anger and irritability skyrocketed, I would have twitches, but the worst thing was the way my brain just slowly stopped working. It was like i was slowly becoming a vegetable. I had been someone who had excellent memory and recall. But slowly that disappeared until I would have to continually return to the books to confirm things. I trained as an Aromatherapist, but i would need to keep reading or i would not remember what each essential oil does.
Now i just pick up a bottle of oil, and i get a vague inkling of what it does but unless i go to my books i cannot remember. Anyway, in 2009 i had a baby, after trying for 7yrs, it was a moment of triumph for my husband and i. I suffer frequent early miscarriage. So much so that i no longer even think about it when i start showing the signs of being pregnant, i just tell myself that my period is coming soon, i don’t do a test, just get on with life. However, my son was strong and things went well. He was small but healthy and strong. Thank God.
However after he was born it was as if my body just couldn’t hold itself together anymore, the symptoms i had been getting on and off , all came at once and i have spent more time in bed since he was born than out of it. I do not trust doctors, haven’t seen one for many years, (only registered with one cos i was pregnant), i knew something was wrong, so i hit the internet. The one thing that came up to explain all the symptoms, and the past flare ups was Lupus. Not a very nice illness. But it did not make sense to me. Auto immune disorders have never made sense to me. Why would this amazing system suddenly decide to attack you???? So i knew there was something triggering the immune system to go hyper, i hit on amalgam from an online contact who i had asked about lupus. He sent me some info linking lupus to amalgams. My friend, who is a homeopath, gave me the same response when i asked her. So i went looking for mercury poisoning. I had read about it years before, and had wanted to remove my amalgam then, (i had not contributed any of my isolated illnesses to my amalgams then, thought i was symptom free,,ha ha ha) but did not have the cash and was advised if i was symptom free then it was best to leave them in. The search was on, and oh my, what a search it has become. I am appalled by the suffering of people. I know how hard it is for me to get through a bad day, and i know there are people who are suffering much worse than i.
I read about vitamin c, so i started on that, only 1000mg daily, but even at that i felt better. Selenium also helps me, but i cannot take garlic, if i cook it i am ok, as long as i don’t use too much. Otherwise my head throbs. Broccolli also makes my head throb. I got some chlorella after reading it was good, but that made me extremely sick, then i read not to take it until after the amalgam is removed.
So, in Nov 2010, i had my first treatment, it was not too bad, i am extremely dental phobic so having a complete mouth refurbishment is psychologically really traumatising, but i know i have to do it. I felt ok the first few days after, bit of a headache but then on the third day i felt bad, i had increased my vitamin c to about 3 – 4000mg daily, but i still felt awful. It settled down but i was still feeling bad. I was delaying the next treatment, until my husband said ‘enough’ and booked for me. So this Tuesday was treatment 2. Including extraction of the gold inlay filled root canal. I could have saved the tooth, but i just felt instinctively to take it out. I have read a lot about root canals, but with four of them i am a coward to have four teeth pulled. But this one was just awful, the dentist explained how it could all go wrong and pulled it out. It took 30 mins to budge, but was black and disgusting, i have felt bruised and sore, got a large tear in my inner cheek which has swollen and hurts more than the extraction site, but its healing now, i was aching at first. Woke up Thursday with shooting pains in my bones, a sign that it was going to be a bad day, but by the evening i had no pain!!!!!!!
Woke up Friday,,,,,no pain!!!!!!!! I mean none, not one bit, i felt normal, i could not believe it. Ran around cleaning, until my husband stopped me. By evening i was in pain, lol. Saturday was an in bed day, and this morning was not good. But yesterday i found the doctor yourself website and read a lot about vitamin c, so i have increased my dose. I thought i had reached my bowel tolerance at 7500mg but it seems just one trip to the bathroom does not mean you have hit your level, so this morning i have upped my dose. Already taken about 4000mg and feeling better, just a little achy.
Now I am wondering about chelation, I have read so much my head is spinning. I have decided that i will follow Andy Cutler’s protocol. But not sure about the details. I am going to order the book today from amazon. I understand that you start the DMSA 4 days after the final amalgam is out. Then for three months you follow his system, then you bring in the ALA. Where can i get the right stuff from, i am in Leicester in UK. I don’t want to be ripped off buying the wrong stuff and end up sicker instead of better. I found someone selling a herbal chelator, but it was chlorella based, it is all so confusing. You read on one site chlorella is good, then its not...
I need advise on chelation, please. Also what to expect, i don’t want to get really sick during the process. Just want to ease myself in.
Thanks to all. Keep strong

Hi wenpam3,
Thank you for sharing your situation. You've been through alot, as many mercury toxic people have and drill-happy dentists. I don't go to dentists now if I can help it. I look after my teeth well, brush twice a day, floss pretty regularly and check them myself. Because I cannot tolerate the mercury vapor within the office environment. I actually get poisoned anytime I walk into a dental office, even biologic ones. Because of the drilling of amalgams that goes on there. Mercury vapor escapes as it's being drilled and fills the air with it. Even extraction systems cannot clear it entirely. The stuff is potent! So I have to do my best to avoid dentists. Partly why I got cerec porcelain put in my teeth, so they'll last almost a lifetime (hopefully). But even they have their own toxins, as all dental materials do. Aluminium oxide is I think one component involved in ceramic/porelain. But nothing is perfect except tooth enamel. They key I guess is to find something less toxic and something that will not accummulate in the tissues/brain over time as mercury does.
Mercury disrupts just about everything in the body. Hormones, the whole deal. It also commonly causes food intolerances/allergies and the candida yeast syndrome. Maybe directly from the toxic effects and indirectly by what it does to the body and lowering the immunity and stressing the liver and the gut. I've had so many problems caused by amalgams in my life that I had to fight back eventually by changing my entire diet just to survive better. I was close to suicide because I was so incredibly toxic. Going on a wheat/gluten free candida diet I think saved my life and I mean that. Dramatic as it may sound. So if you're not doing that, I'd suggest looking into it and trying it. You may not have to be as drastic as I have to be, but just giving up sugar/wheat/yeast may make a big difference for you as you're going through amalgam removal and embarking on chelation. It helps immunity, improves gut/liver and helps to detox the body too and reduces excessive yeast levels in the body.
Vitamin C helped me too, as did selenium and vitamin E and I think zinc, magnesium and fish oil (mercury free). These were the main supplements I took because I noted a difference when taking them. But I required a quality vitamin C powder containing bioflavanoids before I really noticed a big difference, even from that alone. Selenium/vitamin E and the others were extra helpful. B complex can be good to add also. It is better to take the C and B complex more regularly because the body uses them up alot more. So splitting doses so you can take them up to 3-4 times daily maybe more helpful than taking them once or twice a day.
Yes, you sound like a lot of mercury toxic people who find it tough to tolerate sulfur based products like broccoli, onions, cabbage, chlorella, garlic etc. This is pretty typical of mercury, because sulfur, though healthy and often depleted by mercury, can also mobilise mercury in the body, thereby increasing symptoms and making a person feel sick, sometimes VERY sick if there has been alot of movement/redistribution of mercury. If it's doing this to you, then you'd need to restrict it more to a tolerable amount. Perhaps needing to back off these products until you can cope with them again later as you reduce your mercury load. Sulfur is good for a person, but mainly for those low in sulfur who can then handle having more of it because they need alot more and benefit from using it. There are others who find the extra sulfur just serves as a moblising agent for mercury and makes our symptoms too intense.
Cutler's protocol worked the best with me and how my body coped with chelation. Made more sense, kept the symptoms more tolerable and allowed me to continue chelating. I tried various other ways, but always had horrible reactions. Some people may have better functioning elimination systems and their liver phases maybe more balanced, mine were not. So any movement/stirring up of mercury was noticeable and often produced acute symptoms and a long recovery time after it. So I had to find something that would reduce the redistribution of mercury in me and keep it safer and more effective. And that's where Cutler's protocol came in.
For now, you could concentrate on diet and supportive supplements. I require enough protein foods in eats and meat and natural fast like butter, but also consume seeds and low carb vegetables. Hal Huggins talks about the need for a good diet in his book "It's all in your head". I think he mentioned that not adhering to a healthy diet can hinder or even ruin more recoveries than anything. The necessity for increased protein foods (animal meats/eggs) and even butter for mercury toxic people. Perhaps some people find they require more grain/vegetable/fruit based diet, and that's fine, but Huggins believes that he's not yet been able to cure a vegetarian. So it appears protein from animal foods does indeed serve a purpose here. As does enough salts/iodine and natural fats for healing/hormones etc.
I repeat this alot, but I believe it's good advice and something that has helped me. It's nothing fancy, but a good foundation to build on as you are trying to build your health back again after the years of assault from amalgam poisoning.

Thanx Bex, you have given me a great answer. I am really feeling bad this morning, my liver is hurting. Keeps having some kind of spasm. I have never had this before. Aside from constipation i do not really get any stomach issues. So waking up to a crunching stomach pain is a bit shocking. I do not really know much about liver cleansing. What can i take to cleanse and support my liver. It must be going through hell trying to flush my blood clean. I am keeping watch on this post as i want to go NOW to the shop and get something. But like most things in the natural health world, everyone has an opinion and not a lot of people are aware of the facts about mercury poisonings. so please help.
I have been eating all organic, whole food diet for some time. I am a sucker for chocolate, although buying organic chocolate means you only get one bar a week to share between the whole family. which has greatly reduced the intake. I know there are still many improvements that need to be made, just been lazy and a coward to completely cut all the bad things.
i am a dedicated meat eater, we have reduced our consumption and now have a balance between meals with vegetable source and animal source. Been using butter for years. I have cut hydrogenated vegetable fat from my diet about 10 years ago, so that means you use 'real' fats instead. I use only olive oil and butter. I used to take flaxseed but stopped. maybe now i should restart that. I need to get more probiotics. I eat natural yoghurt regularly, but i feel it is not enough for me. There's only so much yoghurt you can take at one time. I don't think i have too much problems with candida, but then there are so many nitty gritty things i go through that a lot of symptoms are masked by others. How can you be sure your digestive system is suffering from candida?
My eyes always itch when i am sitting in the dentists, i end up with a bright red, burning face. Itching skin, and although i am physically shaking and disorientated when i finish my treatment, i have put that down to two gruesome extractions. yesterdays one ended up with all four roots being left inside. Apparently i will need surgury to cut them out. i am looking for alternatives. i hate hospitals and doctors and do not trust them at all. What can i do to start clearing the mercury from my blood before i start chelation. i am feeling really weird today. not good at all. I am planning on doing a course on nutrition and to concentrate on learning about detoxing from mercury and other heavy metals. So all the info you give me will be gratefully received. Going to try to eat something now. thanks for your help

Hi JK98, I thought you needed a lot of protein when mercury toxic? We have one chix meal and one lamb meal and one fish meal a weak. the rest is different types of beans, including green lentils. I so substitute the odd meal, whether veggie or meat with eggs. But we now have half the portion sizes of animal source protein, on three days of the week, so i thought this would be ok. I do get constipation but not all the time, and i have found that my hormone levels affect it mostly. Just after ovulation is when i get it, the system is pumping out progesterone (which causes the intestines to slow down, which causes constipation,) this is usually when i get it, for me its a sign that i am due to menstruate. as i have polycystic ovaries, i am usually swamped with unopposed estrogen, which doesnt affect my bowel action so i am ok during that period, which can be anything from 3 to 6,7,8,9 and counting, weeks. Progesterone is only ever two weeks. Thank God i do not have any issues withthe luteul phase of the cycle. Although since i have been taking high dose vitamin C i seem to be getting a regular cycle. Got some milk thistle, dandelion tea and been taking that. its really made a biiiig difference to the liver pain. It is still tender if i push on the area but no cramping spasms, my kidneys seem to be ok, they did hurt, but the milk thistle and dandelion seems to have helped them as well. I sent my hubbi for licorice root as well , but they were out of stock. he will go back tomorrow, they said they would be in stock then.
where do you get stevia in the UK??? i thought it was a banned substance? i looked for some before for my hubbi's grandma who has diabetes but couldn't find it anywhere. i think i was going to order it on the net from somewhere,,,can't remember now exactly, but i didnt in the end. We have been cutting right down on sugar lately. we only use unrefined brown sugar which is not as bad as white, but it has to go.
Bex said that hal huggins says to include some animal source protein in the diet as he has never cured a veggie. so i am a bit dubious about going all veggie. and i do enjoy meat. I do not understand how people have it morning noon and night, but a few times a week i thought was ok. last night we had fish, rainbow trout, half a fish each. i had the back end and hubbi had the top end as it is a little wider. the kids shared one between them. Two fish between five people (one of the kids is 16 the other 11, only one is a tiddler) is that too much? i don't mind lentils and beans, just not all the time. we are trying to do one veggie meal, one animal meal, one veggie etc then two veggie to round off the week. I have been doing ok like that, and the constipation is not all the time, its not what i consider a big problem. I know others who do not go for days, and pass hard, small things. If i was like that i would say i had a problem. I am considering hydrotherapy once i have finished with the amalgam removal. any thoughts on that? it scares me but is apparently great for the colon. I have a friend who used it as part of her cancer cure, she recommended it a lot, i have always been a little disturbed by the thought of it, but when your health deteriorates to this point you will do anything to get better. thanks for your help.
i will mix the cocoa with the yoghurt might help me eat more of the stuff because i can only stomach so much but i need to have some probiotic. i tried to go without it but felt worse so i make sure to eat it regular, but it just doesnt seem strong enough.
chocco cravings are the worst, it really gets me like 'aaarrrggghhh' but only certain times of the month,,,a lot of ladies will understand what i mean. my mum gets the same craving but for fish, which is interesting, met a few women like that. but not many.

extra protein is a good idea, but that doesn't mean that meat is needed. Dandelion is good at helping to relieve constipation. it is also very good for detoxification. Milk thistle is interesting, but as a practical matter I find it difficult to make tea from it. Licorice root tea can be a bit expensive in tea bags(15-30 cents a bag), but is only around 5 cents a cup when bought by the pound(a pound makes around 300 cups). In the US it is sold by the pound on Amazon. I am in the US and don't know about the status of stevia in the UK. "Bex said that hal huggins says to include some animal source protein in the diet as he has never cured a veggie. so i am a bit dubious about going all veggie." Going vegan is very hard, but if you eat eggs and dairy it isn't that hard, especially if you supplement with carnitine, creatine, B12, iron and zinc. Trout is not so low in mercury. Salmon or sardines would be better choices. http://www.gotmercury.org/article.php?list=type&type=75
