As far as I have researched diamond lite is metal free. It is supposed to be the safest, least reactive material. Most good biological dentist use this material.

Thanks Metal Mouth Mom, i am being very wary as eleven months ago i had a nickel crowned tooth (over a large amalgam filling) extracted because of Nickel poisoning, i also had another couple of amalgams replaced with a composite material caled Admira.......which i am sensitive to now. So am concerned about having my teeth drilled again. I am left eating a meat diet and need my teeth!!!
Seems to me, I remember a post a while back in which Laura was going to check on the safety of Diamondlite re: is there anything in it to cause cancer? Some plastics have female hormone mimickers which can cause cancer. There is breast cancer in my husband's family, so I am hesitant to place something in my daughters' mouths which will promote cancer. Laura, did you check on that?
I'll email this previous post to laura for you. She's in the middle of a book update and is researching so she's not on the forum much for the next couple weeks.

DiamondCrown, DiamondLite, DiamondBond and DiamondLink do not contain any cytotoxic-metallic ion constituents, any evaporable methacrylic acid constituents or any chemistry that yields mucous membrane irritation, fibroblasts changes, epithelial changes, microabcess formation, lysis or haemolytic behavior. This is in contrast to many other commonly used dental restoratives.
Basically, the web site says that other composite materials may have the effects you are speaking of, but their materials do not. Read through it and see what you think.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the best biocompatable product out there short of extraction. Hope this helps

I am not sure there are any dental products that can be guaranteed safe from causing disease. Remember they are all man made from chemicals. The best hope short if having no teeth, is to choose the least poisonous one.
Teeth are composed mainly of calcium and phosphorous. Why can't someone come up with fillings made of these elements? Until then would'nt gold-platinum fillings be the least toxic and longest lasting?I can't think of any enzyme or Krebs cycle intermediate that reacts with gold.

MMM, re: Diamondlite: I tried several times to get in touch and ask the Diamondlite company for specifics as to whether it had any metals or hormone mimickers or fluoride. Most of the time I got no answer. Finally I got an answer from a seemingly illiterate (who would have their company represented by someone who could not handle the language?) person who said that Diamondlite was closing down because it was only a small part of the business and wasn't doing that well! This makes my antennae go up, believe me. Anyway, from their own publicity, they say " any evaporable methacrylic acid..." If I am correct, isn't methacrylic acid a hormone mimicker? Well, if Diamondlite had no methacrylic acid then they could just say so. But it must have some, or they wouldn't have phrased it the way they did. When they say that the methacrylic acid is not evaporable it puts me in mind of the mercury amalgam people who said that the fillings remained intact, without evaporating into the mouth, and were therefore, harmless.
what about Helioprogress from Ivoclar Vivadent?#6130 04/04/0809:19 AM04/04/0809:19 AM
Dear Metal Mouth Mom, you seem to be so knowledeable about composites... I am sending out enquiries to some allegedly famous Dentists as I need to have a few old fillings replaced and I still do not get complete answers... I have been reccomended Heliprogress from Ivoclar Vivadent as the most metal-free composite.... Do you know if this composite has passed any fibroblast cellular reactivity test like for example DiamondLite form DRM Res. Labs? In oder words, is it cytotoxic or not?
Another thing regarding this composite, I have to replace my old fillings and looking at the current composites available I have seen that DiamondLite is X-Ray detectable according to its MSDS sheets while Helioprogress is completely metal free as the off-white version does not appear on the X-ray.
All these composites contains Bis-GMA materials, and these seem to be unavoidable in composites. Does anybody know if there is any composite without Bis-GMAs?
Many thanks,
Andrew

Any info you can find or that that gets referred back to you by dentists would be very much appreciated Here, at least by myself, Andrew. I have a big big problem with plastics, especially the 2 part catalyzed resins such as the urethanes and epoxies, and of course the radioactive character of the x-ray detectable materials does not thrill me either. Essentially for now I have stopped searching due to the fact that in the past, having searched and found what I thought were suitable materials, I was then unable to locate dentists willing to use them. I also found dentists very unwilling to share or elaborate on specifics in composite materials, I got the impression either they did not know at all, or were simply unwilling to provide info because they couldn't guarantee their response was fully correct, so to avoid issues there.
One important things I know about the characters of the Bis-GMA resins is that they are not fully resistant to saliva even though they appear water resistant, but they actually decompose ever so slowly in your mouth. Which is exactly why crowns often fall off after only several years in someone's mouth, the resin adhesives, especially, become decrepit
From the search I did last year, finding newer materials that don't contain these volatile plastics is very difficult. If you find anything please let me know and thanks in advance!
Here is a brief description of dental Bis-GMA's for anyone who doesn't know what that refers to.
Interesting to note also... my then 10 year old daughter had a dental checkup at which the dentist sealed her teeth, telling me afterwards of course because I did not request that... but within a month or two she developed pimples and light acne rashes on her face, previously a flawless complexion, which she has been working very hard to get rid of the past couple years... almost gone but not quite... 5 years or so is the lifepsan of the sealant I believe.
