All Americans are familiar by now with the concept peddled by the lamestream as "freedom of religion". It tends along the lines of some trivial privilege to worship secretly in the privacy of your own home, and (for now) some churches are permitted. "Religion" and "religious ideas" are not welcome if public - at least not those of the Judeo-Christian variety.

They cite "separation of church and state" and maintain that state ownership of public property precludes religion from having any place there. Ultimately, all the politically correct recognize is "freedom" to worship secretly.

Ever notice something? Under Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Nero - practically any time and place you can name - Christians have had such "freedom"!

As Americans, we all know better. The problem is that we accept it when those who are placed in positions of trust - supposedly to represent us - pretend they are too stupid to understand.

I have some good news: we can prove - absolutely and beyond dispute - what 'freedom of religion' really is!

I submit for your perusal an unique document, of surprising significance

Quote
Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, 1785
..........

An Act for establishing religious Freedom.

Whereas, Almighty God hath created the mind free;

that all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens, or by civil incapacitations tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and therefore are a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, who being Lord, both of body and mind yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was in his Almighty power to do,

that the impious presumption of legislators and rulers, civil as well as ecclesiastical, who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavouring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world and through all time;

that to compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves is sinful and tyrannical;

that even the forcing him to support this or that teacher of his own religious persuasion is depriving him of the comfortable liberty of giving his contributions to the particular pastor, whose morals he would make his pattern, and whose powers he feels most persuasive to righteousness, and is withdrawing from the Ministry those temporary rewards, which, proceeding from an approbation of their personal conduct are an additional incitement to earnest and unremitting labours for the instruction of mankind;

that our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions any more than our opinions in physics or geometry,

that therefore the proscribing any citizen as unworthy the public confidence, by laying upon him an incapacity of being called to offices of trust and emolument, unless he profess or renounce this or that religious opinion, is depriving him injuriously of those privileges and advantages, to which, in common with his fellow citizens, he has a natural right,

that it tends only to corrupt the principles of that very Religion it is meant to encourage, by bribing with a monopoly of worldly honours and emoluments those who will externally profess and conform to it;

that though indeed, these are criminal who do not withstand such temptation, yet neither are those innocent who lay the bait in their way;

that to suffer the civil magistrate to intrude his powers into the field of opinion and to restrain the profession or propagation of principles on supposition of their ill tendency is a dangerous fallacy which at once destroys all religious liberty because he being of course judge of that tendency will make his opinions the rule of judgment and approve or condemn the sentiments of others only as they shall square with or differ from his own;

that it is time enough for the rightful purposes of civil government, for its officers to interfere when principles break out into overt acts against peace and good order;

and finally, that Truth is great, and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them:

Be it enacted by General Assembly that no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief, but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of Religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge or affect their civil capacities. And though we well know that this Assembly elected by the people for the ordinary purposes of Legislation only, have no power to restrain the acts of succeeding Assemblies constituted with powers equal to our own, and that therefore to declare this act irrevocable would be of no effect in law; yet we are free to declare, and do declare that the rights hereby asserted, are of the natural rights of mankind, and that if any act shall be hereafter passed to repeal the present or to narrow its operation, such act will be an infringement of natural right.

Please review this document with care, taking note of the uniquely Christian reasoning. Mark well the intentions. Try to imagine ways to argue against it.

I welcome discussion, but please don't be impatient. Things are uncertain and it seems my participation will almost certainly be spotty.

What was the Official State Religion of the United States of America 100 years ago? 150?

Simple question, right? I'm sure you got the answer correct ...unless you are one of America's enemies.

America's enemies always get the answer wrong. I have asked several times, and never once has one got it right. Isn't that amazing!

According to our enemies, permitting the Bible in classrooms is all it takes to establish an Official State Religion, in violation of the First Amendment. 100 years ago, and 150, the Bible was universally employed as a textbook in schools.

Now folks with common sense understand that in order to establish a religion, one would need to actually establish one. Elitists pretend not to get this. Query one yourself sometime and see. They maintain that one can establish a religion without ever actually establishing anything.

Yes, America once was/has always been Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion. As you so aptly stated, the Bible used to be taught in the classrooms of America. I know an elderly woman who recently went home to be with our Lord, who was a Bible School Teacher. She truly enjoyed it and so did the students.

None but God can satisfy the longing of the immortal soul; as the heart was made for Him, He only can fill it.

Our Lord tells us, "Seek and you shall find". He is not far from any one of us. As Louis Giglio has said, "Go look up in the heavens. He is there!" Of course we know that the Lord Jesus Christ dwells inside the believer's heart. Yet we see the Lord all around us, our Creator.

"With unrelenting crescendo, the symphony of a life replete with melodic progression, hastens to its finale.

And a friendship that is ours to share, with its "largos" and "allegros" moves everlasting; onward, in sweet memories."

There are hundreds of thousands of religions, but there is and always will be only ONE, Creator of all mankind. Jehovah !

Thank you, CTD for this information. Perhaps others will come along to keep the thread going and information flowing. God bless you!

dunno'Western culture has made a fundamental change in its religious base. We have exchanged that One who said, "I am the Truth" (John 14:6), for the incredibly expensive doctrine of Freud and the words of all his various disciples. Our new religion says with Pontius Pilate, "What is truth?" and teaches that our status is one of "original victim" rather than "original sin."

That's beautiful.

With effort, with a great deal of work, I can sometimes trim things down to concise statements. Those who do it with ease are truly gifted.

Here now, for those who perhaps haven't considered it, is another example of concise work:
Quote
"And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath?" - Thomas Jefferson

That tiny two-question argument is worth hanging onto. No scoffer, no enemy of liberty can answer it. Even more surprising they don't try. It won't shut them up; they'll change subjects and keep going like it was never there, flinging insults as they go. But they never meet the issue, ever.

Now I'm supposing some may have been a little disappointed. "Sure that Virginia Statute's fine work, but how does it really prove anything?"

Okay, you need to realize - not just casually be vaguely aware, but realize - some things. The intent of the Virginia Statute is clear; things are spelled out in detail. It cannot be disputed that the intention was for Christianity to compete on a level playing field with other ideas. It cannot be disputed that the reason for doing so was Christian, and uniquely so. It cannot be disputed that America was intended to become ever more Christian over time. Review and see.

Advocates of atheism and such, know what they need. They know their perpetual self-contradiction cannot compete. They know other false religions can't either. Even on the issue of a level playing field - the very ground rules, they absolutely must dispute Christianity.

They tell us the proper place to be a Christian is in private; that we are to be just like them in public. They tell us that's what "separation of church and state" entails.
Care for an example?

Quote
"Democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals be subject to argument, and amenable to reason.

Now this is going to be difficult for some who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, as many evangelicals do. But in a pluralistic democracy, we have no choice. Politics depends on our ability to persuade each other of common aims based on a common reality. It involves the compromise, the art of what's possible. At some fundamental level, religion does not allow for compromise. It's the art of the impossible." - Barack Obama

Contrast such silliness with the Virginia Statute. If ideas are to compete, and truth prevail, surely the place where advocates of false garbage are not to be protected is the public arena. That's where the competition must occur! In private is where they're "safe" from exposure to truth. It would be wrong to go barging into their homes or their pagan ceremonies demanding that they stop and listen to us.

Scoffers get everything backwards, everything! The public venues are the places ideas are to compete, without question. Just because someone has no confidence in their hopeless, weak trash - that's no reason to restrict freedom!

Clearly America was a Christian country (no other worldview has ever even remotely approached such measures); clearly the Virginia Statute was passed for the purpose of helping it become moreso. Are you seeing some significance yet?

There's more. Geographically, Virginia's right in the middle. Many of the names one associates with the founding of the United States are Virginian. They were influential, and well-traveled, well-aware of the sentiments of Americans in all regions. On that basis alone we might maintain the Virginia Statute represents the overall thinking of Americans during the era.

But there is no need to even go near that path. Enemies of liberty have hung all their hopes on one single phrase. Rather than consult the actual U.S. Constitution itself, they always trot out "separation of church and state." They count on people to misunderstand, to be utterly ignorant of the meaning. (Or at least to consider flagrantly anti-Christian twists and distortions as "legitimate points of view".)

The Virginia Statute is the cure. It is! It really, really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their own little out-of-context, cherry-picked, misinterpreted phrase can no longer be any mystery at all. The phrase comes from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson.

The Virginia Statute was written ... by Thomas Jefferson. We know exactly what he meant, down to the small details!

So how then might one imagine a Soviet style "separation of church and state" is what Jefferson had in mind? The enemy, desperate at this point, might suggest Jefferson changed his mind, right?

Let them! We've got that covered too. First of all, it is the intention of the people that matters. Neither the Virginians nor the U.S. Congress, much less the Constitutional Convention endorsed any Soviet style concepts. Even if Jefferson had lost his mind, what bearing would that have on the issues?

He didn't, and history proves it. We know what Thomas Jefferson was talking about, period. We know he didn't radically alter his views because before his death he specified the marker to be placed on his grave, the accomplishments for which he desired to be remembered.

There is another aspect of the Virginia Statute which I confess I have underappreciated. The Statute's intention is to provide a countermeasure against infiltration.

No, infiltration cannot be prevented. God has deemed it wise to permit churches to be infiltrated from the earliest days. We are to resist, of course, but there is no absolute stopping the erroneous.

What's going to happen when the government has a say? They'll support the infiltrators, and insist all who follow scripture are wrong. The Statute disallows the tactic we see elsewhere around the world. We may both oppose the takeover of our church by Satan's agents, and if they still manage, we may depart and worship among the faithful.

It isn't widely publicized, but all Communist countries have had "official" state churches. During the early stages, they use them as part of their takeover. Later on, they may keep them as Plato advised, to control the people, or they may lose interest; but the "official church" is part and parcel of Communist strategy. The Nazis were no different. Evil does as evil is.

-Thank you CTD, You have some wonderful information here regarding America and True Freedom of Religion.
I have before me, an 'Answers in Genesis' Newsletter by Ken Ham. Allow me to post what is happening inside the USA. READY?

--ATHEISTS AREN'T THE ONLY PROBLEM!

The Bible warns us about a group of people that our children need to be rescued from: "Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!' says the LORD" (Jeremiah 23:1).

I thought of this verse recently when someone brought a segment of the 700 Club TV Program--hosted by Pat Robertson--to my attention. A lady had written the following to Pat Robertson, which he read on the air:

"I have three teenage boys and now two of them are questioning the Bible. This scares me! They tell me if the Bible is truth, then I should be able to reasonably explain the existence of dinosaurs. This is just one of the many things they question. Even my husband is agreeing with them.

"How do I explain things to them that the Bible doesn't cover? I am so afraid that they are walking away from God. My biggest fear is not to have my children and husbnd next to me in God's Kingdom."

Pat Robertson gave an answer on the air that so burdened me that I just had to warn you again about compromising shepherds in the church and the kids who need to be rescued from them. His answer:

star"Look, I know peopole will probably try to lynch me when I say this, but Bishop Ussher, God bless him, wasn't inspired by the Lord when he said that it all took 6,000 years. It just didn't. And you go back in time, you've got radiocarbon dating. You got all these things and you've got the carcasses of dianosaurs frozen in time out in the Dakotas...

"They're out there and so, there was a time when these giant reptiles were on the Earth and it was before the time of the Bible. So, don't try to cover it up and make like everything was 6,000 years. That's not the Bible...If you fight real science, you're going to lose your children, and I believe in telling the way it was."

Well, I pray this lady does not accept Pat Robertson's destructive advice. This televangelist does not understand that the Bible includes references to huge land-dwelling creatures--what we would call dinosaurs--that lived at the same time as man; furthermore, he does not understand the difference between historical and observational science. Plus, he obviously does not understand carbon dating at all, which has nothing to do with millions of years.

Notice how he mocked those of us who take a stand on a young earth (he has done that before.) Robertson was essentially telling this concerned woman to make sure her kids believe what the secularists say about earth history. Sadly, this kind of approach is a major reason children are walking away from Christ and from the church in unbelief, not because of the teachings of biblical creationists.

To be frank, and though he has done much good( especially in humanitarian relief), Pat Robertson is one of those compromising shepherds we discuss in my book Already Gone. /

--The Changing of America ~~
--Religious Liberty Will Become a Thing of the Past For Christians Who who desire to Remain Faithful to God's Word~~
--(volume 30 / Summer 2015)--By David R. Barnhart

--The Supreme Court of the United States has decided that same-sex marriage shall be the law of the land. Every Christian in America should now be asking—How far away can be the judgment of God? In this man’s opinion, not far at all. Just what form God’s judgment will take, I will not venture to say, but to quote Ruth Bell Graham, “If God does not punish America, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah!”

The changes that are about to unfold in this country as the direct result of the Supreme Court’s decision on same-sex marriage cannot be fully imagined. The current administration and the homosexual lobby are ready to pounce on Christianity, demanding it be forced to accept every type of sexually deviant behavior imaginable, thus securing what they deem to be their “constitutional rights” in every facet of American culture and life. However, these newly claimed gay rights were never imagined or intended by the framers of the Constitution, yet their recognition by the courts will soon erode the rights of those whose consciences are smitten by the Word of God.

Religious liberty will become a thing of the past for Christians who desire to remain faithful to God’s Word, because, for Christians opposition to same-sex marriage and sexual deviant behavior is based on the Word of God. Religious principles and personal convictions will no longer hold sway when it comes to litigation in the courts. Government agencies and entities will hold dictatorial powers when it comes to enforcing laws, policies and regulations regarding homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, and a host of other deviant behaviors. Christian businesses and churches will be required to hire sexual perverts and deviants regardless of any conflicting religious beliefs.

A wave of persecution is about to descend on Bible believing Christians. Those prone to compromise will fall all over themselves trying to avoid it, while the remnant will praise God for the honor of standing up for Jesus and being counted among the faithful in the battle for Truth.

Soon laws will be enacted, making any perceived discrimination against homosexuals, lesbians, transsexuals and all other deviant behaviors punishable by fines, jail, etc. Christian ministries and churches that disapprove of same-sex marriage will lose their tax-exempt status, while Christian schools, colleges and institutions will be forced to hire people whose beliefs and practices are contrary to the teachings of Scripture and historic Christianity.

It is possible that pastors who are now licensed by the state to perform marriages will not be allowed to turn away same-sex couples who approach them to perform their marriage ceremonies. This will happen in much the same way that bakers and photographers have been forced to yield to the demands of same-sex couples or face the consequences if they do not. The partnership that now exists between clergy and the states regarding performing marriage ceremonies will have to be ended by those clergy who refuse to compromise their religious principles.

The moment of decision has arrived! Every Christian, church and pastor will now have to declare whether or not they stand on the ageless and changeless teachings of the Bible, or if they are now ready to join people like Tony Campolo [see page 11] and throw the Scriptures on the scrap heap of worn-out ideas and ideals. Furthermore, all Christians will have to decide if they are going to continue financially supporting churches and ministries that believe compromising the Word of God is better than faithfulness.

The coming division within the nation and among churches will be unlike anything we have known before. Individual Christians must now decide if they will continue holding membership in congregations and denominations that have abandoned the Word of God and have gone over to the enemy of men’s souls. Already such voices among the faithless clergy are pleading with their church members to embrace the gods and goddesses of this world. As for me and my house, we will not bow to the new politically correct gods that our government has created.
