zinc is a very important mineral when mercury detoxing, but I particularly need it because I suffer from copper toxicity as well as mercury. Zinc needs to be taken with each meal when u are copper toxic in order to reduce copper absorption and to balance out copper levels with zinc levels in ur body. But if u don't suspect copper toxicity then zinc is still good anyway for skin, making enzymes to break down food, for the liver etc.

According to culter, mercury toxic people can tolerate high levels of zinc that normal people would get sick with. We are talking 200 + mg a day for years. Mercury displaces zinc directly resulting in the favor of copper accumulation. A easy way to see if your deficient is to by a zinc taste test bottle at your health food store. If you can taste your alright, if not your deficient. 99% chance you are with mercury/copper problems.

Tablets might be too concentrated. This zinc taste kit is 1% zinc sulfate in solution. Its not too expensive at the health food store. It is made by metagenics. Zinc is very important since most people with mercury need it and if they think they have mercury but really have copper (same exact symptoms) it will help that too.

I ran out of zinc and didn't bother to get more as I wanted to wait and see if I could see any difference without it. I have been noticing a decline in my up close vision for about a year or so (I'm 42 and everyone says that is "normal), but I have also recently noticed a decline in distant vision. I know that zinc is supposed to be good to prevent macular degeneration and cateracts and such, but does anyone know about zinc being important for healthy vision?

Yes, zinc is very important for vision. Here's why... Zinc is an important mineral found in relatively high concentrations in the retina, where it plays an integral role in maintaining normal eye function. In fact, the concentration of zinc in ocular (eye) tissues is unusually high in comparison to other tissues. Suboptimal zinc status in the United States may influence the development and progression of several chronic eye diseases. For example, low dietary zinc levels appear to be related to an increased risk for developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Evaluation of 1,968 participants in the Beaver Dam Eye Study found those in the highest quintile for dietary zinc intake had a lower risk for developing early macular degeneration versus those in the lowest quintile. Another study reported significantly less visual loss in patients with AMD who took 81mg of oral zinc daily over a 2-year period.4,6,7,9 (Source: HART Master Reference (Herbal/Vitamin/Supplement Guide) Both my mother and I (and several friends and their parents) use Perfect Eyes. It is an incredible blend of herbs, minerals, carotenoids, etc. that are necessary and scientifically proven to promote healthy vision and help prevent serious vision problems, like cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, etc. Click on the link above to read more about it, or if you want to try it yourself, you can get it here: Perfect Eyes capsules I can definitely tell a difference when I haven't taken it for a while, especially with all the computer work I do. My mother says the same thing.
