Whenever I read that saunas are being recommended for mercury toxic people, I always think that those who recommend are people who have a very low grade of heavy metal poisoning (although they probably think they've got it real bad )There are so many degrees of mercury poisoning, and some are less or more poisoned than others. You have to be pretty strong to able to handle the temperature.
I personally would never go near a sauna. Merc. toxic people are known to be very sensitive to both heat and cold, finding it difficult coping in either temperature. One of the many reasons for this is the stress of heat on the heart and adrenal glands which are poorly functioning to begin with because of metals.
Heat pushes the body to work extremely hard in trying to balance out the temperature and it isn't difficult to see how lots of merc. gets mobilized during this attempt.
My guess is you've moblized lots more than you have been able to excrete via sweat. I would be very careful as to what you take of supplements right now as you don't wanto moblize more with supplements (unless you are taking DMSA of course which holds onto the merc). The molized merc. should settle down again back into the cells where it came from within the next week, but you probably will feel worse for wear during this process.
Another reason I won't take saunas is that other people with their mouths stuffed with mercury also release merc. vapour from their sweat and mouths and this damp will unavoidibly end up on the walls and floors in the sauna causing a pretty toxic environment.

Dawn, I haven't done any saunas, but the info that I have read states that the sauna depletes minerals and that they must be replaced. I know that I am often magnesium deficient and that when I am, I go numb in my extremities, am shakey all over, dizzy, faint and have heart palpitatioins. Get some minerals into you fast - esp magnesium! Juice some vegetables if you have a juicer and drink lots of juice today, tomorrow - see if you don't feel much better!

Hi Dawn, I really hope you are feeling better. I have an infrared sauna at home and love it (it really really helps my joint pain). To reiterate the posts above it is really important that you replace your minerals, salts, fluids after a sauna and build up slowly and steadily as per any chelation regime - otherwise you can end up feeling worse. Cheers .. Karen

Hey Dawn,
I havn't posted in awhile ... but ...
I was using a sauna for awhile (dry heat); a few months and I would get really bad headaches afterward ... now for me it was hard to determine if the h.a. were caused from the swimming (I have neck issues) or the sauna.
If you dont have the book detox or die I would highly recommend it; good info on detoxing. And she has alot of info in regards to sauna usage etc ...
Make sure you do minerals ie before and during and after your sauna usage ie most people recommend Sodium/calcium/potassium and magnesium at the very least.
And of course drinking lots of water etc ...
Generally I would tend to feel 'out of it' when I used a sauna; probably for a few hours.
I hope to get back into sauna usage (hope to get a IFR sauna at some point). Been busy with other stuff atm so slacked off

Hi Dawn,
Hopefully it was just a once off because you were feeling bad to begin with.
One thing that has worked well for me is I don't have a sauna or a DMSA round if I am feeling really bad to begin with as it just makes things 10 times worse. But if I pick my times carefully it's fantastic !
PS: An hour and a half is a VERY long time in a sauna.
Cheers .. Karen
