I was just having a snack and my tooth cracked. I swallowed some amalgam (very small) and the rest was in my hand (again minute and attached to the remains of the tooth).
I am TERRIFIED that I am going to get ultra poisoned. I called the dentist and he's fitted me in tomorrow morning to fx hte tooth. He says not to worry too much because it's not vapour form and will pass through my system with bread. I've taken some algin.
Please say something that will comfort me! I am so scared right now. This is exactly the kind of scenario I've been trying to avoid by getting my fillngs replaced. luckily it was just a shaloow surface filling. I've had teeth crack like this before, so I am trying to think I won't get mega-poisoned.

Ok, I can totally sympathize with how you are feeling right now. You must be frightened and worried. My first thoughts were the same as the dentist mentioned; that it is solid mercury you have swallowed and not vapour so this is very good.
I don't use Algin so I'm not familiar with it. I would recommend taking lots of bran (the one with the highest fiber content available) to get the bowels moving FAST, and eat food which is alkaline. This is because acid can tear on the amalgam in your colon. This means vegetables and fruit for a few days and no protein. I would also avoid starch food as these slow down bowel movements, meaning no potatoes or grain foods for a few days.
Best of luck

Thanks.
I have studied the tooth, and don't think there was very much amalgam come off it as that part of the tooth was virtually amalgam free. But yes, I am panicking big time. I'm just trying to stay calm and eat - I can't eat when I get a panic attack. I think the part I swallowed was virtually pure tooth. There's nothing I can do about it now, so I just have to "forget it" and hope that I won't get much mercury from it. I don't think my body will be able to digest the tooth and amalgam, so hopefully that is to my advantage.
This means more exposure tomorrow now, which is depressing me, but it has to be sorted. I'm glad I can get in asap as it means less time to worry about it. And worry doesn't do any good, so I just have to stay calm and not get upset or cry.

Demi, any part which was swallowed is solid and will probably pass right through - just like the nickels we swallow as kids. The best thing to do is to keep taking the Algin and remain calm. As they say, 95% or the stuff we worry about never happens. Hang tight! I'll pray for you.

Thanks, everyone. I got the tooth fixed today, and apparently what I would have swallowed was tooth and not amalgam (or only a very tiny bit if I did any). I've been taking alginate and eating cereals and breads. I was in such a stress last night that I had to force myself to eat, but am feeling better now.
