HI, I know there are many people on here who are gluten intolerant (as I am myself), but I wonder how many people are aware of the fact there can be more to it than gluten in many of these grains.
I was not aware that not only was rye, barley, wheat, oats a problem, but so was rice and millet in many cases, in fact any or all of these grains can cause ongoing illness in some people due to their toxic effects in the intestines.
There is a programme called "old world grass grain exclusion" and it is specifically to eliminate these grains allowing healing to take place in the gut. THis can only be achieved by excluding these grains, plus milk and especially apples and pears. However, for me? I had to exclude all fruit due to their natural sugars which still feed candida. Milk must be excluded because of the lactose which feeds candida and keeps it going. Potatoes because of natural sugar also.
I found that this made a difference to me, along with healthy fats. I didn't realise how toxic rice was until I finally eliminated it and realised the truth about the old world grass grain diet. FOr some, they need only do the celiac diet (gluten exclusion) and they get results, for others who have very bad ongoing toxicity, they may need to take it a step further and get rid of rice and millet also.
for those still having issues on the typical candida diet, may wish to try this all grain exclusion, plus milk and fruit exclusion and concentrate souly on meat, eggs, vegetables (no potatoes) and good fats to see if over time the symptosm begin to abate.
It's worth it if it works. Yes it is restrictive, but the symptoms from some of these foods can cause total misery in someone's life and if getting rid of them allows for some wellbeing, it's worth the sacrifice. I'm just about to try this again as I had started eating rice again and if I'm not mistaken, this may have caused me much bigger problems than I realise. I can't be sure yet, but I'll keep you posted.
Just thought i'd post this in case anybody was interested. Be aware, there is usually a toxic elimination from doing this and can make a person temporarily ill from withdrawal, e.g. nausea, joint pains, feeling cold, moody and depressed. Does not usually last for too long, but in case anyone decides to try this and finds they feel worse, to let you know that if you get worse? you have probably nailed some of your problem!
I know many things are at the bottom of why so many of us have dietry issues, but until those things are permanently rectified (mercury etc), the sufferings may be worse than necessary if we keep eating this stuff and may block some healing also.

Hi Bex, thanks for sharing this, i do believe it, i use brown rice flour and sometimes eat brown rice and deep down, i know its affecting me but i was in denial because its difficult to find things to eat. I bought some quinoa flour, i have never seen it before, im going to try it in some recipes to see how i go. I was wondering why we can eat butter and not milk, also i love natural yogurt but not sure if it feeds candida, thanks.

thanks for the info bex! it sounds like a good idea, and one that i want to try out eventually, but with my crazy schedule, i have been relying on rice products lately...
dawn, butter technically is not ok to have, but we can have clarified butter (where you remove the lactose). i never clarify my butter, but eat tons of it, and i know that i need to change that habit because it is feeding the yeast. yogurt is ok because it is close to lactose-free due to the process they use to make it. but, it still has casein in it, like all dairy does, so it's still highly allergenic and a lot of people cannot tolerate it.

HI there, you're welcome. I was reading about the toxic effects of these grains and they can be severe. I have an entire pamphlet on it!
It can take 3 months for the gut lining to recover from stopping these things and any cheating can produce marked symptoms (once you've improved). Yeah Dawn, I too was eating brown rice and rice cakes and I was in denial as well, because I just don't have much else to eat grain wise. I guess corn is ok, but for candida? hmmmm. But anyway these other grains are a big issue apparently.
I don't know if I'll improve. Right now nothing is working.
Butter is fine. You can have as much butter as you want. It's milk that is the big problem, honey and fruit also. Plain acidophilus yoghurt maybe ok though and maybe raw nuts.
(but brazil and almonds are probably the safest).
I'll try and give the low down on what can happen when excluding those grains. It takes about 4-5 days excluding them before the candida in the bowel begins to die off, but then symptoms can often increase and you can get cold hand and feet, depression, cramping, wind, and you may notice you have a musty type smell.
This "should" pass off in about a week, but other symptoms may continue for weeks before healing happens. You may lose your apppetie and it may swing and change and you may get bouts of nausea.
I guess it's worth a try....

Hmm, I'm getting interested in this butter clarifying after what you said Sandi...
I'm finding the worse things to eat are - all the gluten and old world grass grains, soy, cows milk, sugar, yeast, fruit (initially due to natural sugar and feeding candida), caffeine.
It does get very restrictive and people will find that they may only end up eating eggs, meat, vegetables (no potatoes) and healthy fats, at least initially until they decide to add things and see how they are.
It is seriously getting this way with me that I will need to restrict things further. I am really suffering right now because of the cigarette binge I did and it's blown my yeast right out of control.
People who maybe in a better way will find what things they can continue to include or may not need to be as restrictive. But I reckon it's a good idea to be very restrictive initially for a few weeks and then see if anything improves and "then" add things to see if there is deterioration or flare up of symptoms.

Any thoughts on Quinoa flour or buckwheat flour, will it feed candida? Also can someone tell me how to clarify butter? thanks.

I bought a loaf of buckwheat bread the other day and the next day it was full of mold. Most grains are loaded with mycotoxins because of the manner in which they are processed, handled and stored. Lannie from the Yeast Connection has written tons of stuff about the aflatoxins and mycotoxins..corn is particularly bad for them.
I will post what she wrote on the Yeast Connection about corn and other grains. Much depends on how it is handled and if you get your grain from a good source and process it yourself it is much safer.
Sandi xoxo
