Hi everyone!
Just a bit confused about eating sulphur foods with a hypothyroidism issue. I hear that sulphur foods are good for mercury detoxification so I have been eating heaps of eggs, asparagus, broccoli etc. However, yesterday my doctor told me that I have Hashimoto's disease, which I had actually suspected for some time so it is not such a shock.
I am confused because sulphur is apparently good for mercury detox but not good for low thyroid conditions. Just wondering if anyone has any comments about this.
Thanks from Rachel
PS. Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I am now about 8 weeks post removal. I have had a lot of problems in regards to my teeth and have lost a few and am only just starting to overcome the intense pain that I have been enduring for about 7 weeks and am no longer on heavy duty painkillers. I guess that all of this has made me really anti-social and I have become a bit of a hermit. My mercury symptoms got really bad during the removal period but are now subsiding to about the level it was prior to removal. My doctor does not want me to start DMSA for another 3 months. I feel fine with that. I am now just doing the Anti Candida diet which has made my mental symptoms MUCH better and using all the regular supplements and some herbs for my liver and kidneys and 3-4 saunas per week. Just getting myself ready for the DMSA I suppose Still avidly reading everyone's posts though. xx

Sulhur foods are not necessarily good for detox. They can mobilse mercury but do not chelate. Therefore sulphur foods can end up moving mercury around the body redistributing it and causing damage. Andy Cutler advises against sulphur foods if they cause a problem. Some of this food group can end up making me feel quite ill so i have to be careful about how much i eat.

I have a question, if you don't mind. I am having the last of my amalgams removed later today, so I'm trying to glean all the information I can about chelation, etc.
My question is regarding moblization...if you DO eat something that mobilizes the mercury, would taking something that binds with it help keep it from settling in tissues, etc.?

Yes, apparently so. Russ often mentions the helpful action of a supplement called "algin". This seems to act like a sponge and can appear to mop up available/mobiilsed mercury. Helpful to many! There is also a link on here that directs people to a particular protocol for mercury detox - http://mercurytalk.com/wiki/index.php/Detoxing:Getting_Started_With_A_Detox_PlanIt maybe helpful to you. Everybody is different however. Many people use Andy Cutler's protocol, which is supposedly one of the safest around. It is about using chelating agents in such a way as to cut down on the risky mobilisation and redistribution of mercury and ensuring more safer and effective removal of it, rather than bouncing it around the body (where it can possibly end up in more sensitive tissues, brain also). You can learn more about Andy and his protocol on this link if you care to check it out. http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/ANDY_INDEX.htmlThere are many different protocols out there to detox mercury. So you'll find a mass of contradictions around and it's very tough on any poisoned person to try and choose which way to go. But his is one that seems most favoured so far by those who have been harmed previously by other methods. NOt for everyone, but I feel it's got the most logic and science behind it.
