Hello When heavy metals mess up your liver it also effects your gall bladder, and in chinese medicine we have meridians that move energy around our body. The gall bladder meridian goes around your jaw and ears. It may be a good idea to spend a few months to cleanse Lv/gb first before doing any chelation with dmsa or ala see the picture here: http://www.koreanmedicine.net/10news/image/%B4%E3%B0%E6.jpg <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I had jaw tightness that went away immediately after amalgam removal and having one of my teeth out. I only wish all of my symptoms went away quite as easily. Have to chelate them out.

I have the jaw tightness which is so bad that every time I eat, I end up really spacey (related to the TMJ). I'm about to begin amalgam removal in 3 weeks. Your posts are giving me hope! Thank you!

I am now 6 months post removal. Have not started DMSA. Improvement so far was cessation of teeth grinding, jaw pain, stiff neck, hence less headaches and less brain fogginess hence better mental acuity.
For the last week or so all these symptoms have come back with a vengance. To the point where I chipped one of my front teeth during the night due to excessive grinding. Lovely!!!
I guess this is the 6 month nightmare thing. Will be starting DMSA in a few weeks and I really hope that I can tolerate it and really looking forward to getting rid of the jaw clenching / grinding thing again. It was such a relief after years and years to have ceased this but now that it is back it is really annoying. Anyway I seem to be a text book case for all the typical symptoms of mercury toxicity, my removal exprerience was typical and so therefore I guess I should have expected the 6 month dump that everyone talks about and lo and behold here it is.
Sorry, I have to agree with anonymous about the Gall Bladder Meridian theory. I remember years ago I was having major cystitis to the point where I ended up getting pyelitis and my doctor was quite concerned about my kidneys. This went on for about 6 months. As soon as I would finish the antibiotics it would come back worse than ever.
Then I saw a Chinese herbalist and acupuncturist. He said that there can be a connection between the ears and the kidney and urinary bladder meridians and asked if I had, had any ear infections. I said no and then he said do you ever use ear plugs and I said yep certainly do. Then it dawned on me that I had been using the ear plugs for 6 months since my boyfriend at the time had changed his work hours and was coming home really late at night. He would turn on the TV and I couldn't sleep so I started using ear plugs every night. After the Accupuncturist told me this I immediately stopped using them and have never experienced cystitis since.
Cheers from Rachie

Hi Rachie, yes somewhere along the line for many people, the mercury that is stored has got to come out sometime and the 6 month mark, seems to be the common time frame. For me it was right away, then a seeming "remission" then about a year or so later I copped it!
In fact, it felt worse than the direct amalgam poisoning to me! DMSA did help, becuase it chelates out the mercury that is in the blood/tissue. Though at this point, you could actually use ALA, becuase you are past 3 months now. But you might want to try DMSA for a while to be extra sure.
Some people find DMSA causes enough detox symptoms on its own, so they may stick with that for a while before adding ALA (or using ALA on its own).
I found I had to use the DMSA every 4 hours, because it kept the symptoms more even and manageable and I find it is a safer way to use it.

What happens if you begin chelating with DMSA or anothe chelator soon after getting the amalgams out? Will this lessen the severity of the symptoms when the mercury is dumping 6 months in (as opposed to getting the amalgams out and not chelating at all over that time)?

Thanks Bex. So it sounds like it makes sense to start chelating right away after getting amalgams out if one is able to, and then adding in ALA 3 months in so one can begin to begin removing mercury from the organs. My fear is what happens if you cannot tolerate the chelation - then you are just waiting for disaster to happen. The whole thing is so scary to me.

Hi Andrea, yeah that's pretty much the way it's done. OR, if you do not tolerate DMSA, you can get DMPS. Again, if neither, it's up to you what you do in those first three months. You can do nothing, or you can simply try some other ways like sauna for sweating (as effective as chelation) and/or other ways of producing a sweat, exercise, hot baths (wtih epsom salts, or baking soda and sea salt about a cup or more each). Lots of supportive supplements etc. But here are some sources that one can get DMPS (oral) from. DMPS is great for those not tolerating DMSA, plus it is even more effective. Just tougher to get hold of and probably more expensive. Though it only has to be taken about every 6-8 hours around the clock, instead of every 4. http://www.thefallspharmacy.com/http://www.kronospharmacy.com/Pharmacy/home.aspxOr here are two LA doctors that apparently give it out. http://www.drrachelwest.com/http://www.naturalhealthmedicalcenter.com/If you can't do these things or don't want to, you can still find ways of helping some of that mercury out. But I would not worry too much, because at the end of 3 months you can just chelate with ALA and you'll be pulling the mercury out of your organs and brain and by the time the 6 month mark hits, you'll already be well on the way with chelating.

Thanks so much for the information Bex. The DMPS sounds like an interesting way to get started after removal - I've been hearing so much about DMSA that I had not thought about it before. I do have a physician that would prescribe it and have a compounding pharmacy that should be able to get it for me. I plan on having my removals done slowly, beginning with one amalgam replacement as I'm so sensitive, so I have some time to discuss this with him and figure it out.
Thanks again.

There are many scientific studies that show huge differences in hg levels in the jaw, the gums and the oral mucosa between people with several amalgams and those with none. Dr Maly found jaw hg levels of 1200ppm in people with both gold and amalgam as opposed to controls who had approx one ppm. Freden found average gum tissue levels of 147 micrograms/gm in people with amalgam vs 3 micrograms/gm in a control group. A German study found jawbone levels of over 5000 ppm in jawbone under a gold crown covering a mercury filling. The ADA tells us the hg stays put in the filling Joints have collagen and the colagen molecules are held together by disulfide linkages. Mercury interferes with these sulfur bonds which is probably why your jaw stops hurting when your amalgam is removed. Amalgam is probably the main cause of TMJ.

Good info. Mercury may also be a cause of arthritis because of it's hunger for sulfide bonds. Increasing Vitamin C can help. MSM can also help but this can also mobilize more mercury and make you feel horrible.
