Just wanted to post some information I sent to someone who asked me whether Algin would be good for people who had Celiac or who were gluten intolerant. They wanted to know if Algin would absorb gluten in the stomach before the stomach's autoimmune response.
Although I don't have any scientific evidence that Algin would absorb gluten, it does seem logical that if you took Algin WITH food that had gluten in it, I would think the Algin might absorb at least some of the gluten.
In case you've never seen what Algin does, as soon as the powdered Algin makes contact with any liquid, it instantly turns into a thick gel. So, I would think that taking Algin with whatever food might contain gluten might at least limit the autoimmune response.
As a personal example of how Algin works for me...
If I eat even a small amount of fish, say salmon, without taking any Algin beforehand, I'll experience some of the same mercury symptoms I suffered before I had all my amalgams removed - specifically, some slight numbness/tingling in my hands, brain fog, irritability and/or moodiness. The more fish I eat without Algin, the worse these symptoms are, and if I eat enough fish, I'll experience even additional symptoms like terrible fatigue, apathy, and even some depression. These symptoms start within an hour of less of eating fish if I don't take Algin first. However, if I take 6 capsules of Algin at least 20 to 30 minutes before I eat fish, I have virtually no symptoms at all. (Although I do take another 6 capsules afterwards, just to be on the safe side, so really I take 12 capsules total...I'd rather take more than I need instead of not enough.) So, if taking Algin with fish can prevent me from absorbing mercury (and who knows what else) in the fish, then I would think Algin might do the same for gluten or perhaps other potential toxins (maybe MSG, etc.?). By the way, Algin is on the list of approved foods for vegetarians and those who are gluten-intolerant, for what it's worth.
If anyone has real-life experience using Algin for gluten intolerance, it would be great to hear if this works for you.

My stomach also gets sore taking Algin but i think this was due to the capsules. I now break open the capsules and put in water and havent had any problems since. I dont know whether you are supposed to do this but it works for me. You do have to be quick drinking it down though because it does start to swell up quickly.

I noticed you need to drink a blg glass of water to get these down so they don't swell up on the way down. I had them stick in my throat and didn't know why. Your post helped me. Thanks! And...so far on my 2nd day of Algin 2 capsules 3 xs a day on the "off" days of doing the Andy Cutler protocol and although I noticed a little bit of symptoms, it seems to be helping. Thanks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
