There's this seemingly super-smart (yet incredibly autistic) guy at the following website who believes brain chelation using ALA can cause brain damage as the mercury is pulled out.

Basically, he says it dangerously liberates mercury, redistributes it, and poorly holds on to it.

Anyone care to comment?

That makes not a lot of sense to me. leaving mercury in the brain is a sure fire way to cause many problems (including autism) and other mental issues and much damage, plus effect hormonal systems in the body.

ALA is a powerful antioxidant and happens to have the ability to bring mercury out of the brain. Redistribution is unavoidable, but can be lessened by a safer protocol (andrew cutler's for example). It also allows the brain to begin healing, hence the often miraculous improvements or recoveries from those using it.

PEople have used this alone and recovered from toxicity. I have no idea where this autistic guy gets his reasoning from, as he is basically suggesting that mercury be left where it is, because in actual fact, there is no such thing as anything having the perfect grip on mercury. But ALA is one of the strongest chelators.

So no, he is incorrect. the only way I can see there could be problems is if someone uses it in very big doses and indiscrimmantly and at the wrong time (too early on when blood levels are still too high) which might cause more mercury to go INTO the brain, rather than out of it.

I dont agree with the autistic guy, bright as he is, I'd like to hear him suggest how mercury should then be removed from the brain. As I have known people who have not gotten well with other chelators, but have done with ALA simply because they had too much brain mercury and only alpha lipoic acid was able to get them healthier.

ALA definitely causes heavy metal elimination, and real well too from my experience. I am not sure it binds it though, which is why it's usually used with DMSA probably.

Personally, I think it's wise to mix your chelators... ALA is going to mobilize certain things, DMSA certain things (and bind pretty well), DMPS certain things, cilantro etc.

Just guessing, sort of, but if you stick with just one method of chelation you may relieve some symptoms, acquire new ones perhaps because maybe what got missed by the binder (DMSA, DMPS, chlorella) will rest in places that certain chelator cannot reach, or else other symptoms seem more acute because of a new imbalance that was coped with previously in a different way. From my experience, using one thing for too long may not be completely effective.

I did the cilantro soup the other day, it threw me for a loop the past couple days, I did not eat it the second day (I was hurting a bit), but... after resting off chelation since yesterday, I woke up this morning feeling wonderful, and am still in that state <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I did an H2O2/sea salt bath last night also, that may have helped.

The cilantro is real good stuff, my head real clear all day but it was not fun to endure to get here. I was eating chlorella and taking the ALA/DMSA prior to and after the soup. And garlic. Whatever it did is very good, I am resting and will have another go at it in a few days. I have never done that much cilantro in one day... All studies I have read on that say 2 weeks of it can clear out more mercury/heavy metal than almost anything else known. I'll keep you posted, so far so good, but a rough ride while doing it for sure.

Cilantro is real easy to grow btw. Growing your own ensures no pesticides or other stuff, and ensures freshness. Bugs seem to hate it anyway.

I'm doing high doses of cilantro too. And it is really clearing up my head. This is the best I have felt in many years <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Less brain-fog and muscle pain.
