I recently bought a copy of Iodine:Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It. By Dr. David Brownstein M.D. I found out about Dr. Brownstein from a link that Blicero had for a video of the Doctor. This is a great book!!! Not only does he tell about the critical role that iodine plays in the body but also how it's used to detox and reset many of the bodys' endocrine system organs. This book struck me as not just opinion based but packed with references and studies by credible medical(hard to believe) researcher studies. Dr. Brownstein is on our side in this fight and not just trying to "cash in" on alternative ideas. I began taking Iodoral last week and feel it working as I type. I was one of the ones who had a complete revision and gained nothing in feeling good. I knew there was a missing "something" and I now think I've found it. Here is a link to his website http://www.drbrownstein.com/

Dawn: Do you know if potassium iodide is a good source of iodine? I found it on iHerb. Or, where do you purchase your iodine?

You can buy iodoral(tablets) from http://www.optimox.com/These tablets have both iodine and iodide together in the correct proportion. They work much better for me than the iodine liquid drops. At the optimox site, click on the menu at top for iodine products. Also check out the site http://iodine4health.com/ especially Iodine For The Body page. There is a building body of research evidence that iodine is the missing link to many of the standard treatments not working for people. The book I mentioned in the beginning thread is very enlightening and fascinating. Hopefully on this forum, we can form an ABC checkoff list of things to do to recover from mercury poisoning. Of all the books I've read, they all seem to give you only a slice of the pie and since we are all different some on here will benefit from a specific treatment and some will not. I still think that the best thing to CURE yourself of mercury poisoning is to CONSTANTLY READ THIS FORUM! and NEVER GIVE UP!*!

The best way to cure yourself from mercury poisoning is to make sure mercury is the cause by doing a live blood analysis, quantum biofeedback and some vega muscle testing. Start cleansing with the liver/gall bladder for those who are sensitive and in pain The quantum and vega test will show if you have parasites or other viruses, fungi, bacteria. You have to be careful about vega testing - some people are not very good. A live blood analysis will immediately show metals and candida if it is there. get up to 9000 magnification - 1000 is not enough as most naturalpaths will do I wish I would have done these tests before rolling the dice with lots of different products. And for those who are sensitive would suggest homeopathics for the first year or two Then I think glutithione IV start 1.2 grams in 100ml saline over 30 minutes once per week and see how you feel. Once your feeling good, then look to remove metals / mercury in blood and teeth with minerals in which you are difficient - do a hair analysis and the biofeedback will show also - would do both to confirm. I dont think a person's body can handle the stress of trying to absorb high dose minerals and vitamins when it is quite ill and sensitive. Schussler salts would be okay and mild complete set of all twelve http://www.healthegoods.com/content/cellsalts.htm?gclid=CKfXuavfr40CFRAvhgod9wjdsQ

GETDASILVEROUT! I still am convinced many on this board would significantly benefit from iodine. Like anonymous said in reply, about finding out then rebuilding your nutrient and vitamin stores. I find it hard to post new ideas since I often seem to be dismissed but I have been through many different treatment protocals. I would hope that Iodoral will soon be posted more by others.

Because of this thread, I have been taking Lugol's Iodine for about a week now. My hair has stopped falling out...in just one week.
Sandi, you said that you take Lugol's. Can you give me any information about dosage?
I began it as I had many of the symptoms of Iodine deficiency, yet my tests came back normal. I began to be concerned when I developed a large white spot (larger than a quarter) on my throat.
I can't see where it has hurt me, but helped me to take the Lugol's.

Wow that is great, amazing how fast that worked!!!
I take one drop in each of my mealtime carrot juices with one teaspoon of potassium, they somehow work synergistically on the Gerson protocol. They will probaby up that dosage as the chemo drugs are eliminated. They start slow after you have had chemo or it can mobilize too much too fast.
You may want to get one of his books, the Gerson plan works to cure many chronic conditions.

Thank you, Sandi.
Do you know if there is any truth that you have to take Iodine 2 hours before or after any chelation. That's stretching Andrew Cutler's protocol, but I can go 4 hours between, if necessary.

Iodine is a chelator and stays in your body much longer from all that I've read. It's not like other chelators in that it is an essential nutrient for your body and takes a number of weeks to build up to level that's good for the body. One of the reasons it takes so long to build up is that it is pulling(chelating) bromides, fluoride, and mercury from your body for at least that amount of time. These are all bad toxics but iodine will slowly get rid of them. Iodine is a LARGE missing puzzle piece of the wellness game. Please see the site www.drbrownstein.com for more info and this doctor isn't the only one advocating iodine and natural treatment methods.

I also forgot to add that Dr. David Brownstein is a MEDICAL DOCTOR or M.D. Which is truly amazing and terrific for us. Too many so called doctors are chiropractors and such trying to supplement their incomes with alternative health ideas. Although their treatments help most people I know, they need much more and sometimes(HARD TO BELIEVE) even occasional pharmaceuticals to achieve wellness. GOOD LUCK and keep up the posts!!!!

what do you mean 2 hours before or after any chelation? It would seem that you are chelating the whole process?
Do you mean 2 hours before or after ingesting a chelating agent?

Anon! Goiter is generally a condition brought about by lack of iodine. That was the reason long ago that they began putting iodine in table salt. It worked for the goiter but new research has confirmed that the body needs much more iodine than the average diet gives us. The swelling or throat tightness could be a symptom of detox that iodine stimulates.

Claythrow, thank you for replying. Yes, odd as it sounded, that is what I was asking. Does iodine need to be taken apart from other chelators? I had read that it would work against other chelators, though it itself is a chelator. Admittedly, I felt this was far-fetched, and that chelators work together. But, just to be on the safe side, I wanted to ask.

Interesting what Smitho mentions about a possible connection between Iodine and anxiety. My last blood test showed that I have seriously low levels of Iodine. During the last week I have started back on liquid selenium and iodine and boy oh boy have I had the worst anxiety and brain fog. I thought it was the selenium so I stopped that yesterday. I still had pretty bad anxiety and brain fog today (not quite as bad) and still took iodine this morning. I think I might leave the iodine alone for a while.
QUESTION: I have heard that it is not advisable to take iodine if you have autoimmune thyroiditis such as hashimotos disease. This really confuses me as I have hashimotos disease and my blood tests show that I have severely low levels of iodine. My environmental doctor suggested that I take iodine but I'm not so sure.
Yours in confusion. Rachie

Funny you should write this today Rachie....I didn't take my iodine yesterday and I feel much better today, depression and anxiety is gone. Maybe it is a heavy duty chelator and we are pulling out alot of mercury or other heavy metals.

Yours in confusion. Rachie Rachie, there are forms of selenium that are not tolerated by mercury toxic people. I believe selenite is one of them. selenomethionine works for most people.

Do not take iodine if you have symptoms of hyperthyroid such as anxiety, heart palpitations, food cravings and have a slim figure (this is due to the high metabolism). Also avoid selenium as this supports thyroid production which is of course negative for hypers.
I really wouldn't experiment with iodine unless hypothyroidism is confirmed from doctor's blood tests = TSH

I posted earlier after using Lugol's for a week that my hair has stopped falling out. This hair loss has been going on for 6 years now. I was very fortunate to have thick hair to start with, however it isn't as thick as it used to be. After three weeks on Lugol's, I can say that it is not a placebo effect. My hair is no longer falling out. I seem to be able to lose weight again, something that I felt was hopeless. Still a long way to go with my chelation, but, at least, these are some positive changes.

I also tested low for iodine and started on Iodoral along with an Adrenal and phosphatydlserin. Saliva test showed that my cortisol is too low in the morning and actually is too high at night. Completely backwards! Anyway, about two weeks later I feel even worst- very shakey, electrolytes are all messed up and now I am experiencing diarrhea. I stopped everything new because I don't know what is causing the new problems. I suspect the iodine because I started it first and my face started to break out. But, would this all take three weeks you think.
Oh, I also had a very bad adrenal day when I cut my finger really bad with the pruning shears, about two weeks ago.

SEARCHING! The research on iodine has found that bromines and flouride is detoxed out of the body while supplementing with iodine. Detoxing bromine can make you feel bad and have some mildly strange after effects. A way to help counter this is to add sea salt to your diet every day. The type of salt that works great is Celtic Sea Salt. It is untreated and unprocessed and your body can use it easily unlike table salt. You can add salt to your food or add some to water and drink it everyday. You can also lookup iodine forums like at curezone.com and they have an amazing amount of info. About stopping everything---This is probably the best course of action, and after 1 or 2 weeks when you are better begin adding 1 supplement per week and see how you feel. You could be having an allergic reaction to one of the supplements (possibly even iodine). For allergy elimination please check out muscle testing, NAET, or Bioset. You can do a search on the web for these.

Thanks Gary. I muscle tested for these supplements, but the guy did tell me that I needed to use sea salt (after looking at my medical test results). I haven't done so because I was holding off until my face cleared up as the last time (@4 years ag) I was told to heavily salt my food and ot made hugh painful bumps come up on my face.
Thanks for the info. I will look at it and try the iodine with sea salt in a few weeks.
