Well, I've just had my composites redone in porcelain and all seemed ok and now suddenly there is a problem. One of my teeth is now hurting and twingeing with pain. Nothing agonising as yet, but pulsing.
I am pretty upset, because as we all know, the options if things need action are root canals, extraction, implant....
anybody got any advice? can toothaches disappear?
The odd thing is, this has only just started. The side it has started on had dental work done on it two months ago, so I wonder "why now?". Just happened in the last few days. So things are dodgy. Has anybody had this happen and had it go away?
Sorry to sound paranoid, but I am honestly fed up right now. It's one thing after another. Root canal is something I would like to get if I needed to, because I don't want to lose the tooth. however, the trade off maybe further health decline....implants are diabolically expensive (e.g. 3000 for ONE implant) and extraction is very final. Tooth GONE. I mean ok for wisdom teeth, but I don't exactly have a nice mouth full of teeth as it is....
anyway, any advice/comments would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Have you contacted your dentist Bex? Seems odd that this problem has occurred 2 months after the dental work. Did you eat or drink something that could have triggered it? I have a tooth that's been niggly since my amalgams were replaced; it hurt a lot and was very sensitive for a few weeks afterward; and now 6 months later I can still feel it occasionally, especially if I bite down hard with it (ouch). My guess is that the drill must have got close to the nerve.
Since it's only been a few days, I wouldn't get too frightened, and it might help to talk with your dentist. If the pain carries on then you could look at options, but one step at a time. Sometimes pain near a tooth isn't toothache at all, but neuralgia, or a bacterial infection.
Wish I could help more. I hope the pain goes away soon and that you're able to get on with things without having to worry.

hi bex, this is probably no help but for me,i get toothache alot in all my teeth, they take turns! I have been oil pulling for ages now hoping it might resolve. I am now using oil of oregano in my oil pulls to see if it helps, after brushing gargling with it. i have a bit of gum receeding too, which only came on after removal, so im hoping oil pulling might help.

I had tooth ache after one of my amalgam removals. I had to get my bite adjusted, which just means a little bit of tooth or cavity is filed down with the drill. Mine was strange because it was not on a tooth that had been messed about with. it took 5 mins in the chair. The dentist said this sometimes happens after amalgam removal, the teeth/jaw relax a bit and move slightly…which screws up the bite and a wonky bite causes tooth ache. God knows if what I was told is true or not, but adjusting the bite sorted out the problem. I needed to go back and get the bite adjusted twice before it went away.
Tooth ache also comes on at times of stress, like having a cold, flu, illness and I guess that includes parasite cleanses? On my current parasite cleanse I have strange lumps and bumps in my mouth almost every day, unsually on the inside of my cheeks, which is not normal for me.

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses. I haven't yet contacted my Dentist Linda, but I think I may have to if this continues into next week. I'm hoping (possibly in vain) that this will abate. My bite doesn't need adjusting sunshine, the dentist has already done this for me and he did a perfect job. All teeth were checked, rechecked and everything was done to the point I cannot complain at all. I only had a bit of a problem on my right side, and went back in and he filed that down a bit more. But there is seriously nothing more he can file down or do. When I bite down, it is perfectly flat/even.
So not sure what's up.... It's a dodgy tooth anyway because before this dental work, it would hurt a bit when chewed anything kind of hard....so that's what makes me wonder if this recent dental work was the last straw for it and it's on its way out.
It is sure strange that after 2 months it would suddenly play up like that. Here's the weird thing, it stared a couple of days ago and I was eating soft meat! It just start to twinge a bit and it kept going for sometime that evening, but then faded and I was fine. I am not sure about the day after that, but yesterday it started again and this time it has not gone. It's still there today.
One thing that he did not do, was these two molars have cerec porcelain in them and the dental material has kind of stopped me from flossing properly between those two teeth. If I do jam floss inbetween them, I can hardly get it back out and some of it will tear. So I have to push it in and then glide it out whilst still between the teeth, rather than lift it up and out. When I had my right side filed down, I mentioned this to him about the left side, but he said it was no big deal......
So I'm wondering if this has caused a bacterial trap? But I doubt it because the pain is deep in one particular tooth and again it's the same dodgy tooth that I had soe issues with before.
If/when I see him again, I will get him to create more of a gap between those two teeth so I can better floss.

Hi Bex,
I have a similar situation. During the mercury removal process, I had a crown removed and there was a large mercury filling underneath it that had to come out. It was filled with composite and a temporary crown put on. I had no issue for a month with a temporary crown. I went back and got the permanent crown, and a few weeks later I started having pain when I flossed that evolved into tenderness in chewing. The dentist x-rayed the tooth and said that it apparently couldn't take all of the trauma and needs a root canal. I have not had it done yet because our insurance was tapped for the year and we were moving. I have to start over with a new dentist or find a way to get back to my old one. On the bright side, the pain has not increased at all; actually it subsided a little. I don't want to part with the tooth, so I will have it root canaled, but I will be sure to have it done with ozone. Good luck; I hope yours is just sensitive.

You might try brushing a few times a day with salt and baking soda. If there isn't any mercury in your mounth, you might also consider dabbing some hydrogen peroxide on the tooth and around the gumline. Using a water pik or similiar helps a lot, you can use the water pik with dissolved salt water and baking soda too.
but anyway, that would be exactly why I won't bother changing my few remaining amalgams out. One of my extracted teeth is a victim of change already. too bad, was a nice one too.
a root canal will really help you feel yucky. I had one done, I lasted 2 months or so with it. It was like having an antenna in my mouth no kidding. I think also the chemicals, formaldehyde, all sorts of weird stuff they use with a root canal don't help much. I was ok for about a month with it then it really just drove me nuts. That tooth never had an abcess until after the root canal. Tells me something. If the pain doesn't subside within a week or two of salt water/peroxide/whatever it may be best to just extract it.
Bex, dental equipment is never truly sterile. I know some people last years with root canals, they keep the tooth but they lose their appendix or something else downline.

hi bex,i was told by a dentist that mine was probably referred pain because of a large cavitation i have. dental floss isnt really recommended anymore, have you seen the new little brushes that go between teeth, they are good, they dont damage teeth and do a better job, you can put toothpaste on them and get a really job done. hydrogen peroxide is great stuff, i got some ready for next month when i have surgery. dawn x

I swear there were sympathy pains from the other teeth on the other side, I felt something over my right side last night and I thought OH GREAT. But it's mainly this one in particular.
probably your friendly anaerobic bacteria spreading out to seek and destroy. I'd get after it right away with the salt water and baking soda routine. I always do that if I have a slight tooth pain (since last years dental disaster) and it never amounts to much because of that. I think it makes cavities go away i really do. If you've never done that routine before it'll make your gums hurt for s few days but keep at it, the bacteria in your gums simply make your mouth hurt a bit as they die and then your gums are like pink steel next week. sort of anyway. massage it in real good, gently, with your tooth brush. I add fresh aloe gel to that, to wet it, but water is ok too. or peroxide (without amalgams).

Hi Dawn, yeah I think I have cavitations too, but I know this pain probably isn't from that, but rather further dental work. I personally think it was the limit for this already dodgy tooth. I should have known! Warning signs were there even before this dental work was done. But now it's niggling 24/7. Not good. I've heard different sides on dental floss. Not sure what to think. I do floss, but try to be gentle and it seems ok as long as I do that. That brush sounds really good! and better than the floss. I may look out for that. I'm finding that the salt and baking soda is causing a wee bit of burning after I use it, feels like my gums are throbbing a bit and they tend to go quite red after it. I guess this means that they are a bit infected and are reacting to the mix! Can't wait to add hydrogen peroxide. I hope and pray this will help, because things just do not look good right now. Best wishes on your own dental work and good move to get the hydrogen peroxide ready after the job is done. You should mix in the salt and baking soda with it.
