DMSA

DMSA (Succimer) – Brand name Chemet®. An oral drug used for patients with lead poisoning. This medication will bond with lead and then be dissolved and passed through the urine. It is used for chelating mercury, but many believe it is not the best specific chelator of mercury. Adverse side affects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and possible liver dysfunction.9 I just got this off the www.jigsawhealth.com website citing I've never seen this before, but am wondering about this and DMPS. Ever since I started DMSA and DMPS chelation therapies my digestion has gotten worse. Has anyone else noticed this? Especially after I caved in and did the DMPS challenge test in October. Has anyone else had this experience? Did you recover from it? I am really considering stopping all drugs and going the natural detox method. I also think it's taxing my adrenals. I was feeling pretty good after 3 months of no chelation in October, then I did the DMPS thing and felt bad again. It seems like everytime I detox naturally I get better easier. Recently, I started Colonix, works great and immediately I had energy. However, I did a round of DMSA and then felt bad again and digestion issues arose again. Anyone else's thoughts? Gabriella

I don't think it's just because they are a drug, but they are also powerful chelating agents and if used in the wrong manner can cause a person to get worse, sometimes MUCH worse.
When used safely and correctly, they can be wonderful for helping mercury toxic people, but perhaps they are a bit harder on the body than other things. But again, so is mercury so if the mercury is moved into worse areas (gut being one), then you will definitely get side effects.
I had redistribution from using DMSA in the wrong manner, which pushed it straight into my gut area and I was in AGONY for a LONGGGG time. I had nausea and all. I had the same reaction when I took 2 garlic capsules too and in a way even worse and ended up in emergency. It was all from redistribution of metals into worse areas I believe.
Natural methods may be better for you, but garlic is also natural and look what it did to me? It depends on how you use the more powerful chelating agents and also depends on what natural methods you use to detox mercury. They can be no better in many circumstances.
Cilantro, chlorella, garlic, methionine, cysteine, NAC supplementation etc have all in some cases caused horrific side effects. All backfire results from redistribution of mercury. Having DMPS IV injection can do the same thing and has in cases almost crippled people.
Again I think it depends on the person and the protocol. If you feel you simply do not do well on DMSA or DMPS no matter how you use them, then skip them. THey are not essential, they are optional (according to andy cutler). They are used in the early stages of mercury poisoning following amalgam removal to help clear the blood/tissue levels of mercury out faster and more effectively than if you let the body do this by itself.
It is not worth it however if it makes you miserable and makes gut situations worse. stick to what you have found is helpful to you and is not going to hurt you.
By the way, alpha lipoic acid is extremely powerful for mercury chelation, moreso than DMSA. It can be used, as long as you are 3 months or longer post amalgam removal. It should not be used any earlier when blood levels would still be too high. ALA chelates organs and brain and is apparently (again according to cutler) essential.
But should be used according to the safer frequent dose protocol to avoid redistribution of mercury, and possible irreversible damage!
When i had my massive backlash from DMSA after using it incorrectly, the only way I reversed my symptoms was going on the candida diet. The symptoms began to ease after a while of doing that. I gather I must have caused a massive yeast overgrowth from pushing metals into the gut!
But again I'd say symptoms can reverse after time. When I was able to use DMSA again, I used it at a much lower dose and did it according to Cutler's protocol. I was ok then and I believe treating candida and keeping it at low levels also helped me to be able to chelate properly too.
Chlorella messed me up anytime I took it, as did using anything else that mobilised mercury uncontrollably.

I prefer my cilantro pesto personally. The recipe is in the recipe section.
I do keep DMSA on hand fior days when I feel a bit rough. But those days have become less and less as the months go by. DMSA alone will make my head feel a bit achy.
Use lots of garlic and drink lots of water with the cilantro pesto. twice a week is good for that routine, you really can get rid of heavy metals naturally.
I'd recommend a (hulda clark) liver cleanse too. I think I unloaded a lot of toxins with that as well.

Lousy days make me question it all sometimes. I have been following Andy's protocol since the beginning. I was able to speak to another member of the forum and realized one of the supplements I was taking also may have contributed to the gut issues. I also need to do another liver flush, as I KNOW that will help, it always does.
I know you all know what I mean, today seemed just lousy and depressing. I want this to be over so much. I get tired of working on this day and night. I know I need to keep going and it's what I tell others, and I will.
Thanks for your support.

The first 2-3 months are real hard, no way around that. If you are using oral chelators you should be aware that a good portion of them stay in your stomach, which might contribute to digestion problems. If it's IV, maybe you are getting a big dump. Try adding fiber to your diet if you haven't alreday. If you use the cilantro recipe just use a little bit of pasta in there or maybe none at all. I eat it with a mixed grain pasta (not too much pasta, lots of olive oil, fresh lemon juice, plenty of garlic) to avoid possible gluten stickiness.
You might also try an herbal colon cleanse.
I eat lots of yummy vanilla no chem yogurt too. Good for digestion, great source of calcium.
I was on chem chelators for about 5-6 months before I went whole hog with the pesto routine. i started the pesto routine slowly, small dishes once or twice a week. now I eat whole bunches at a time.
Your symptoms are a lot like mine, it's probably from the DMPS, the cold drippy sensation. DMSA doesn't do that to me, cilantro does it real good though.
I fely exactly like you describe.. so tired of this day in and day out... pretty much all spring and summer... the supplements, the chelating etc.
I think I am past it. I still eat the pesto regular but I don't feel the need to worry about supplements as much which helps alot. i still use them but if I miss a day or two or even a week, it's no big deal anymore.
I have noticed I also feel a lot better when my water filter is brand new and clean so i change that more often too.

Any dairy right now isn't on the eating plan, but I am in the third week of the "Colonix" program and love it www.drnatura.com, it includes a parasite cleanse and detox. My skin is pink for the first time in years. I used to look pasty white. There are other benefits, but I want to wait until I'm done before listing the results.
