Hello All, I'm new here

A little background. I'm 42 yrs old and have been sick for over 13 yrs. I was told I had CFS, Lupus and last Aug I was dx with Lyme. I also researched a lot about yeast.
I'm now being treated for lyme but want to be free from metals as I do this.
Tomorrow, I'm off to the dentist to have 2 of my 6 filling removed.
Questions:
1- does anyone else here have lyme?
2- how do I know for sure I have mercury poisoning?
3- is there a VALID secure test for mercury poisoning?
4- how long should I chelate after I get the fillings removed?
5- Should I only get 2 fillings removed at a time and how long to wait in between for the others?

Any help would be great.
Also I bought some chlorella and am going to take it not just to detox metals but to detox my liver from the lyme.

That's great that you are removing the heavy metals as well, specifically your metal fillings. You didn't mention, so I'll ask, is your dentist going to remove the fillings according to the Hal Huggins protocol? With a rubber dam to catch the fillings so you don't swallow any of the material and use an aspirator (another word for suction), mask over nose, eye protection to keep from getting re-exposed? I'm sorry to hear of your illnesses and so often heavy metals are part of it, or in some (perhaps many) can be the cause. I hope you might find some answers or help on this forum. So many of us have truly been through the mill and hopefully maybe able to pass on some things that are helpful in your journey towards better health. Mercury has definitely been mentioned and connected with such sicknesses such as lupus, lyme disease, M.E., candida, multiple schlerosis, autism etc. It's a terrible toxin and can poison even in very small doses.

I am not certain I suffer this (lyme) personally, but it's always a possibility. I'm not sure how many others on this forum suffer this condition, perhaps they will respond.

I stopped bothering to test for mercury as all my testing turned out with false negatives! So many reasons for apparently "low" levels. But the link I gave you above, should answer this better than I can here! I have not done a proper test for mercury and haven't looked into it, I knew by my symptoms and reactions to chelating that I was heavy metal toxic and on the right track. I eventually healed from it or improved greatly by amalgam removal and proper chelation, but I rushed in and made things much worse for sometime before that. Oh if I could turn back time! lol. I got much better in the end, but that was stuffed up by viral infection in 2003 which is permanent and has done me more damage I think than anything else. I cannot detox from this, as I could from mercury.

You chelate for as long as it takes. Sorry to be so vague, but that's how it is. Chelation is very individual and some people need to continue chelating for years 2-3 years in some cases, more in others, less in others, all depends on how toxic you are. You chelate until you do not respond anymore to chelation and you are full convinced you are well and then some! Best to chelate even after you "Feel" well because chelation can reach a point where it can almost keep you well. To stop it, may eventually cause a regression of symptoms because more mercury may still be dumping out of your organs and fill you back up again. So it's wise to keep chelating for about another six months to a year after you are feeling well.

I think getting 2 fillings done at a time is fine. Slow maybe the best approach and getting full protection. If the dentist provides absolute FULL protection in everyway, sometimes they get away with removing a bit more than 2 at once, but again it depends on the condition of the patient, the preparation of the patient (supplements, diet, etc). there is no point in taking unnecessary risks just to "get it over with". only to wind up an invalid at the end of it.

I knew for sure I had mercury poisoning by my vast and bizzare symptom list that didn't really match anything as much as it matched the mercury list. I know other illnesses can cause many similar symptoms, but this just went that step further <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Plus the metal symptoms I got when attempting to detox it out! I also tasted metal and sometimes smelt of it when I exercised.

Some people respond badly to chlorella, some respond well. You'll be the best judge of that. I would be cautious with things like this though, because they can really mobilise mercury and make you feel very sick. It is normal to experience some worsening during detox (healing crisis), but not to the point of being completely intolerable. I've taken it before and I had far too many symptoms. I stuck with Andrew Cutler's protocol to get me through it instead in the end. His was far more tolerable for me and it seems others too.

I also had issues with high sulfur foods back then too when I was very metal toxic, because they stirred up the metals in me too much. But I tolerated them more as I got less metal toxic over time.

But some people thrive on sulfur foods, so again you will know by your reactions what is more suitable for you. You can get doctors who specialise in heavy metal chelation, some maybe wonderful, some are not. It's a very very difficult area.

Questions:
1- does anyone else here have lyme? – yes some do. Not me.

2- how do I know for sure I have mercury poisoning?
-read Amalgam illness by Andy Cutler, get a hair test analysis done.

3- is there a VALID secure test for mercury poisoning?
-yes and no. hair test, but you can diagnose from symptoms and yr mercury history.
4- how long should I chelate after I get the fillings removed?
-depends how bad you are 1-2 years?
5- Should I only get 2 fillings removed at a time and how long to wait in between for the others?
-yes 2 at a time is cool, you should only get amalgams removed per quadrant and the dentist should never cross sides in the mouth. That means do top left, or top right and not all the top. Or bottom left or bottom right and not all bottom teeth.
I had mine removed per quadrant….so that was 4 appointments for me.

-time in-between is up to you and how you feel. I needed 1 month in-between appointments to…………recover!

-also never have another appointment 7/14/21 days after the last appointment.

Also I bought some chlorella
– personally I would avoid chlorella, some poeple do well on it and some people it really screws them up. You have no way of knowing if you will get screwed up until you take it…….so, as I said, I would avoid. But if want to take the chance….fire away. I would not.

Very important! Big warning bells ringing! Do not get your amalgams replaced without protection. That’s rubber dam and oxygen minimum. IT WILL SCREW YOU UP! If your dentist does not know about these things and says they are not needed…..you need to cancel the appointment.

Sorry to scare you, but I had just 1 of my 8 removed without protection and everything went crazy for 6 months. Was a very painful experience and I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what I did.

If you spend some time reading these mercury forums they are littered with people that removed amalgams without protection and massively regretted it. don’t let that be you.

My dentist said she would use a barrier and good suction, but not another air source.
I had two other filings removed over 2 yrs ago and seemed to have been fine at the time. Or maybe what I thought was fine at the time. Since I've been sick so long with what I now know is lyme, maybe I was not well at the time, but related it to my "mystery ilness". But I can't recall ever getting too ill after the removal of the other fillings.

There is a holistic dentist I can go to, but the cost would be much more. The only diff would be the other air source.

As for the chlorrela, once I start it, I would not be able to determine if that would make me feel sick b/c of all the abx I'm on for lyme that already make me herx and feel sick.

Just wanted to let you know that I have Lyme Disease. I've removed all my amalgams and root canaled tooth a couple of years ago. I was sick with Lyme at the time but didn't know it and, therefore, had no diagnosis. I have not begun any formal chelation.

From all the reading I did prior to my amalgam removal, I learned that there is really no truly reliable method for testing mercury. I recall reading that the only true way to evaluate mercury levels in a person was by autopsy. Mercury accumulates in the tissues and organs and it very hard to pick up either by blood and/or urine. So testing for mercury can be as difficult as testing of Lyme in many cases.

There are some urine tests out there that try to evaluate mercury load. The DMSA provocation test is one. The other is very new (at least to the USA) -- anyway, it's called the urinary porphryns test. It only became available last Spring here. That test is not a provocation test.

What you said really hit home with me though. When you're being treated for Lyme it's impossible to know what else is giving you trouble. Therefore, it's really hard to gauge one's reaction to new remedies and treatments (i.e., chlorella). I'm terribly allergic to chlorella myself.

Another way of trying to test for mercury and metals in your body is by applied kinesiology or autonomic response testing and also electrodermal testing via a computer. Again, it can help give someone an idea of what's going on. I'm not ready to say it's definitive by any stretch of the imagination simply because of the issue of possible human error. I just bring these methods up in case you might be interested.

Dr. Klinghardt does alot of chelation and also is familiar with Lyme issues as well. I have found his approach to make a great deal of sense. You can read more at neuraltherapy.com.

My LLMD said that the issue of heavy metal detox came up quite a bit at the ILADS conference this past fall. Many of the leading docs are indicating that they found their patients were able to get their Lyme and co-infections into remission more effectively once detox and heavy metal detox were undertaken. I don't know whether it's possible to get hold of the minutes from that section of the conference, or to get hold of videos or what. But I offer the info in case it might be help.

By the way, I've forgotten whether Dr. B mentions heavy metals in his treatment guidelines. But I know the Cowden Protocol addresses the metal issue a bit with the use of the parsely tincture.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and let you know that I'm in the same situation. How the heck can Lymies chelate when there is already such a war going on in their bodies?

I don't know about you, by this illness has brought me to my knees.

I'm so sorry you feel so bad!
I started to pulse Flagyl and that was a shot to the head. For the last two days I've had horrible vertigo. This disease is taking my life away slowly. I'm on disability now from work and basically can't do much.
I went from living a full life of working out at the gym 4 days a week, working 40 hrs a week and going out every weekend to barely living and all in a 6-7 month period. I know how you feel, but we need to hang in there.
You should come to my lyme site, they are so supportive there.

I just emailed my LLMD last night asking her if she knows any info about metal detox and lyme. It would be GREAT to get the minutes from that ILADS conf about that.
But I think deep down we know that ridding out bodies of toxins will heal.........heal lyme or most illness.

I had my dentist appoint for today, but had to cancel. First time in my life I ever cancelled a dr's appoint. I can normally go when sick, but this vertigo is rough. I resched for Wed so let's hope I'm good to go then. I want this metal OUT OF MY MOUTH!

Chelating can be rough when having lyme. But we need to try everything at least one.
So the Chlorella was not good to you? How did u fee on it?

The more I read about mercury, the more I see like any "mystery illness" there really is no exact testing. How frustrating.
I guess chelating on a reg basis for toxins is a good thing whether ill or well.

What meds are u on for lyme? How long have u been on them?

Awe, Jen, you look so cute in your picture! I know you're feeling terribly ill, but you certainly look pretty in your picture. I won't even post a picture -- unless I can find one of humpty dumpty. I'm loosing my hair from the Lyme and I've put on 20 pounds in the past 2 years from it as well. Doh!

I do remember you mentioning on the other board how active you were. What an incredible blow it must feel to you to have been doing so much and then have to slow down in order to concentrate on healing. I really think you made a smart decision, friend.

That slow chipping away of our lives is exactly how I've tried to describe it to folks who ask me about it. A few years ago I was busy as a bee and then gradually I was able to do less and less. Now a busy day is if I spent time on the 'puter reading and posting, empty the dishwasher and wash some clothes. Add a shower to that and I'm wiped out for the day.

My sofa and I have become one this year. lol

I know you didn't want to cancel that appointment but I'm glad you did. Vertigo and driving sounds too scary a thing. You did the right thing, girlfriend.

I was on Flagyl for 3 weeks a couple of years ago (I had Lyme at the time but no one knew it), so I was taking it for another infection and I called it the antibiotic from hell. It's a tough one to take.

The chlorella for me just didn't work. My dentist wanted me on it for a few days prior to amalgam removal and then a few weeks after. The chlorella made me horribly nauseas, put me into a kind of stupor, weak, dizzy, edema in my face, legs .... when I called the dentist to report the symptoms he said those were allergy symptoms and stop it right away. I recall one day while taking it I felt so ill and so out of myself that I asked my husband to put me out of my misery and get the shot gun. lol

There are other things that can used instead of Chlorella. Try reading some of Klinghardt's suggestions on his neuraltherapy.com site.

On my Lyme treatment, I did 5 1/2 weeks of Doxy and also had to go on Diflucan, and Ambien. I'd been using natural antifungals for years and natural sleep aids but my yeast got very bad recently and my insomnia had become nearly total. After 5 1/2 weeks on Doxy, my doc decides to take me off it and put me on Samento and Coumanda instead.

Overall, I'm much worse now than I was before starting treatment. That is, my Lyme Disease symptoms are far more pronounced and I'm feeling more of an effect on my neurological system. I see him tomorrow to go over things. The anger and crying spells from the herxing are a challenge to say the least.

I'm not planning on staying with this doc. I've got a consultation set up with one of the Lyme God doctors and will see what he says. I see him next month because he had a two months waiting list. I don't feel safe with the doc I'm seeing at the moment for alot of reasons.

Maybe I'll mosy on over to your place and introduce myself. If you say it's a nice place, then I know it will be true.

I was active and yes it's TORTURE to not be active now.

I'm so torn on the abx or all natural treatment for lyme. I can see not many people full recover from yrs of abx. It's a nightmare. I think we need to listen to our bodies.
