xylitol is the best, the birch variety. stevia is ok. I grew it last year in the garden, never developed a full real taste for it. It is quite sweet but doesn't compare to honey which my favorite. But it's on the shelf for days of honey outages.
splenda is a synthetic, best to avoid synthetic sugars, y'never know..
xylitol actually helps stop tooth decay, kills bacteria in your mouth.... enetrs the bacteria cell wall and destroys it. Neat stuff, a tad expensive if you use a lot, like for baking and stuff. It makes astounding good baked items though, the birch variety that is.

I can’t handle any sweet fruit, nor any sugar, refined or natural, nor any honey, nor any molasses. But I can handle “Agave” – tastes like honey….awesome stuff. http://www.detoxyourworld.com/cgi-b...&PN=agave%2ehtml%23aF0017#aF0017quote This is premium grade, organic raw agave nectar. We are not responsible for any agave nectar that isn't sold under our brand. Agave Nectar is an exciting new sweetener naturally extracted from the inner core of the Agave (a cactus-like plant native to Mexico, the same plant as Tequila comes from). Agave Nectar absorbs slowly into the bloodstream, decreasing the highs and lows associated with sugar intake. Agave nectar comes from a cactus, with a very low glycemic index (between 11 and 19), meaning it does not significantly raise blood sugar levels. Its gentle method of processing ensures the presence of vitamins and minerals, which are not found in processed sweeteners. Because of the low glycemic index it is acceptable for people with diabetes and hyperglycemia. Agave Nectar dissolves easily and its taste is natural and delicious, making it the perfect sweetener to naturally enhance any food or beverage. It tastes like a cross between honey and maple syrup! Use as a replacement for dates, honey, sugar, maple syrup, and other sweeteners. Our organic Amber Agave Nectar is an exciting raw natural liquid sweetener. Whereas premium agave nectars are produced from only the Weber Azul or Blue Agave plant (Agave tequilana), which is also used to make tequila, other, cheaper, agave nectars are made from 3-6 different agave species, but primarily from Agave salmiana. To make our nectar, juice is extracted naturally from the core of living agave cactus plants. Then it’s cleverly processed without even reaching 40 degrees celcius. The complex sugars in fresh agave juice get converted into simple sugars, resulting in 100% raw agave nectar. The nectar is then finely filtered. This minimal heating and processing ensures that vitamins, minerals and enzymes are left intact for your bodies to absorb and use.

I'm having an awful time staying away from sugar, but I am trying. I am doing better...I am not eating any total "junk", but I don't know if I can ever get completely away from it. I have some stevia, that I need to experiment with more, and see if there's things I can do with it. I can't handle any sweet fruit, nor any sugar, refined or natural, nor any honey, nor any molasses. Sunshine, What exactly does it mean, when you say you cannot handle it? It makes you have symptoms? What kind?

I love junk too. but i try to find good junk. With the exception of coca cola, which i love, I allow myself one or two 8 or 10 oz bottles per week of that... and the other junk, potato chips, corn chips cheddar crackers etc... I always check and make sure there aren't any hydrogenated fats in there or soy. soy at a minimum is ok but don't over do it, don't eat it everyday.
I betcha there are hydrogenated fats in these bagels though. I buy them at the bakery so no label to check, they taste wonderful. I hate beng without junk food it's a shame. salsa and chips ummm... beer... an occasional pizza...
I have a huge need for carbohydrates or I get so skinny. i've always been this way. do not mention the word pastry to me. I gave up donuts years ago though and I have not eaten pork in several years. I do eat lots of yummy natural yogurt. There is sugar in there though.
agave is suppose to be good stuff. if you can eat that you can eat xyltol and stevia. Both of those are natural too.
we go through a lot of xylitol when it's in the house, gets expensive for a sweetner. my daughter especially loves it. It's actually good for you, kills bacteria, inhibits yeasts etc..
one thing I really hate is cake. how I have always hated cake, those thick super sugary icings, eeeuw.

i use stevia, agave and xylitol, xylitol tastes just like sugar but so expensive. agave is nice on pancakes and porridge, its just like golden syrup to me and very easy to buy. Birch xylitol is better than corn but harder to get here in the UK. Stevia is probably the healthiest but it doesnt taste like sugar more like liquorice, its very economical, i use this mostly, i have a terrible sweet tooth.

Stay away from Splenda...it has really bad chemicals in it. Everything I have read says that xylitol is the best choice but that stevia is okay.

I can't handle any sweet fruit, nor any sugar, refined or natural, nor any honey, nor any molasses. it means if I eat any I get digestive problems; bloating, heartburn(acid refleux), constipation, dehydration…the more I eat the longer the pain. I tried some honey 3 weeks ago. Was 1 tsp …I had digestive problems for 5-6 days. This is why I am so strict on my diet. The honey was a controlled experiment to see if I could handle any….. I could not. I love Cinnamon. In fact I like it so much I supplement it everyday. Yummy. Most of my cooking has at least a sprinkle
