Hello everybody:
Do you buy bottled water, or have you found a better way like a filtration system? What company makes it?
I was going to post specifically on the "Purchasing a Water Purifier" thread, but this is more on drinking water, and I thought more people would see it here. That thread on buying a water purifier mentions Culligan.com as a whole house system, and I recently got a flyer from Aquasana stating it is purer than bottled water, guaranteed. And it cost 1/10th of bottled, and was rated a Best Buy by Consumer's Digest. Do you think this is true?
I have been buying bottled water for a long time, and was wondering if it could be done cheaper and better at home. I have a shower filter from Sprite, and a tap filter, but I use it just for cooking - I don't think it is that great, but better than nothing.
Thanks!
TW

I have bought bottled water for a long time. I just recently, finally got a filter for my kitchen sink tap. I wanted to long before, but I either forgot, or couldn't afford it at the time. I still drink bottled for the most part, but use the filter sink water for cooking, etc. We have terrible water. We live in a small town and have a water tower. It is full of chlorine, and nobody else much notices this but me. I have been allergic to chlorine for a long, long time. Maybe it has something to do with the mercury, I don't know, but I am sure it could. I know I have been very over sensitive to chemicals, since I've been mercury toxic. On very hot days, it almost smells like straight chlorine coming out of the faucets.I know this is not good for me. I need a shower filter badly, but haven't got that far yet. I am doing the best I can, with changing the things in my life that are making me more toxic, but I can only do a little at a time. Eventually I will get there.
I met someone in a neighboring town, when I was buying my water filter, and she said their water is so bad, that they have the Culligan plan, and that they come out and put filters under all their sinks, and I guess they pay a monthly fee for this. They STILL have a tap filter on their kitchen sink for the drinking water, even WITH the Culligan that they have.

I'm very picky on the water I drink as any chemicals or bacteria in the water and I get an immediate reaction. Most bottle water has some fort of chemicals or bacteria or they use "ozonation". Ozonation is an excellent sterilizer and cleanser but the only problem is that it kills all the good bacteria in your intestines also. Carbon filters are good for removing chlorine but as was mentioned they accumulate bacteria and most if not all contain copper and other metal and/or metal compounds. mommy, I'm very allergic to chlorine also found tremendous relief with a simple shower filter bought from Bed Bath and Beyond for $24.99 http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13724199 They say that your body absorbs a tremendous amount of chlorine in a shower so when you do get a filter on your shower you will notice a lot of difference. Supposedly distilled water is the purest water but there are negatives associated also. Sunshine, in your reading what was it that made your decide not to drink distilled water any longer? The optimum solutions are either reverse osmosis system or ones that use multiple technologies to fully purify all the water in the house. Unfortunately good systems run around $5000 for whole house systems. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />

After a LOT of reading about water, spring water is the gold standard for drinking water so I will continue drinking that.
I put quartz crystals in the bottom of my water cooler to re-energise the water. I can taste the difference.
However I still shower and bath in the tap water and a water filter is on the to-do list.
Q: On a scale of 1-10 how simple and easy is yr water filter to install?
Q: why did you go for that water filter?
James….distilled water. Ummm….i read a real lot about water and explaining it is difficult because I don’t fully understand it myself, certainly all this talk of energy and life in water is beyond the twilight zone to my mind. I will try. Distilled water is water that has had everything removed from it. All the minerals are gone. The water is lifeless. The structure (life force) of the water has been smashed away by this removal process. Distilled water is not a natural form of water and your body is not used to hydrating itself with this de-mineralised water. When the water goes into the body it ……(ummmm?)…..sucks up minerals to get it back to its natural state. When you are very sick this can be a good thing….distilled water goes in sucks up some crap and off it goes. But drinking distilled water for extended periods is not a good idea. You body is 70pct water, blood is 90pct water…so the quality of the water you drink is vital to your well being…..most of you is made of water after all.
As I said I don’t understand all this weirdness, I work in the city, but read some books & I bought some quartz crystals put them in the bottom of my water cooler to re-energise the water. I did the Pepsi challenge and the water with the crystals tasted better. That’s good enough for me.
If this has wet (LOL) your appetite to learn more about water I can recommend some cool books if you wish, I learned a massive amount about something very important from reading them. Time and money well spent IMHO.
I got a pic somewhere of the crystals…I will look it out.

I'm really glad this topic has come up. I was just about to start a new thread on this myself. I've been thinking of getting an RO system which has a remineralisation stage, however the minerals appear to be just calcium. You can also get drops which you add to your water that contain trace minerals for eg: http://www.vitality4lifeshop.com.au/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=244I'm not sure if this would be enough to compensate for the minerals that are pulled out of the water? Sunshine, I'd be very interested in reading up more on this. Could you please provide the names of the books you mentioned? Cheers, Cara

Hi Cara Two books to start you off, both about water and salt, both completely different. “Water and salt, the essence of life” by Dr. Hendel and peter Ferreira and “Water and salt, your healers from within” by Dr. Batmanghelidj Both books are very famous, came highly recommended to me and I concur they are powerful books. Which is read first? Depends how much alternative health knowledge you already have? How far you have travelled on the road to recovery? If you just starting out go for Dr.Batman’s book. This was one of the first health book I read….blew my mind really….i have big time benefited from that one. If you already know some about alt health then maybe “The essence of life” – some parts where completely new to me….this also was even more of a mind blowing book, truly inspiring stuff. If you want to learn about which water is best and why….then start here. Whichever you read, you will be amazed. I think “The essence of life” is what you should start with http://www.amazon.co.uk/Water-Salt-...ks&qid=1204233479&sr=8-1http://www.amazon.co.uk/Water-Salt-...ks&qid=1204233511&sr=1-1James…thanks I may sort one of them filters for myself. if you read “Water and salt, the essence of life” by Dr. Hendel / Ferreira you would change to spring water rather than filtered tap water. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sweats.gif" alt="" />

Alkalise the body: Yeah I’ve done all that. Good to know about that stuff, its important. its tricky at first to get your head around it, but its like riding a bike once you know how.
How to alkalise yr body …………. eat alkaline food, exclusively. Don’t eat acidic foods. Drink lots of freshly squeezed juices. Fairly simple really.
Only way I have changed the PH of my water was to add hydrogen peroxide, but I can’t be arsed anymore…too much trouble. My diet is completely free from processed food now anyway and I minimise acid food and maximise alkaline food as much as possible. Once I understood about all this stuff I don’t need to think about it anymore….i know what is healthy to eat…so I eat it. for example; quinoa is alkaline, rice is acidic…so I eat a lot more quinoa now.
If you want to alkalise yourself I would suggest a vegetable juice fast. Min 3 days, if you managed 7 you massively will feel the difference. It is a challenge……
As ever, I can recommend some books if u want.

We drink filtered water (just a plain ole carbon kind), but have not done much research into it. We originally put a whole-house filter (again, sand/carbon type) on when we moved into this new house. The water here is VERY soft naturally, but they chlorinate it, sometimes heavily. (Luckily, though, they do not flouridate). We loved this filter UNTIL, we started noticing the green/blue build up in the tub and shower floor. Started looking into that. Apparently, the purer the water, the harder it can be on pipes (some say this is a myth, but when we turned that filter off, the copper build up stopped.) I really think excess copper is playing a role in my health as well, because my symptoms escalated when we moved into this house, and come to think of it, they improved some when we turned that blasted filter off.
See, I feel danged if I do, danged if I don't here. Copper pipes -- well, copper and sometimes, lead. PVC -- BPA, and possibly plasticizing metals, the pond -- parasites, etc. There seems to be very few perfect water sources.

I am worried about the plastic leaching into the water. Glass bottled water is so expensive. me too, I have been drinking ONLY bottled water for about 4 years now.I drink a variety of different ones, because they list minerals in varying amounts... The tap water here is fluoridated and I get stomach cramps very quickly if I drink any. It's a challenge to avoid it completely ,I shower &bathe in the fluoridated water and brush my teeth with it too..I use the bottled water if I need to cook anything like rice, etc. I intend to get a top quality filter at some stage.I don't know how long I'll be living here though...

Hello all: Thank-you for the posts on this - as usual you guys have some great ideas. I just ordered Dr. "Batmans" book on Water and Salt on Amazon. I can see argument of using spring water, but like, I think James said, I wonder about the quality of a lot of spring waters. In the meantime, my new Dr. is recommending and is a distributor for Nikken - www.nikken.com/culik Anyone hear anything about them? I am thinking about trying a couple things... TW
