I decided to start on some ALA as i think i definitely need it. My main symptom is electrical sensitivitity and my brain seems fried when i go near mobile phone masts so i figure its the way to go. Anyway i took a small dose maybe 5mgs and i felt so braindead it was unbelievable. like my head weighed a ton and i felt like this for well over an hour. I actually couldnt think straight to do anything. Is this a typical symptom because ive never felt anything like it. I was virtually catatonic. If i have brain mercury i really need to use this stuff right?
Many thanks! stuart

HI Stuart, when I was mercury toxic, one of my symptoms (when I was getting mercury out) was feeling brain dead. I mean to the point you literally cannot think almost. It is major major brain fog deadness. The same thing you have described and felt heavy as well. I think mine went on for a few hours too.
I was only using DMSA too, so I wasn't even hitting the brain mercury as much. I must have been doing something close to it, because why was my mind so affected? But it was worth doing! It does start to clear the mercury out, it's just not pleasant to experience. However, using the frequent dose protocol (every 3-4 hour dosage) was FAR better than doing it any other way. Is this how you are using ALA? Because using it other ways can be risky apparently.
Sometimes you may get other symptoms instead, it can change. You can get emotional, depressed, hyper/anxious etc. Or just drugged/brain dead. So long as you don't "overdo" it and can handle this unfortunate side effect, you are likely hitting the spot and getting to the mercury that is obviously still there and where the ALA can reach it.
I tried ALA recently and didn't notice any significant detox, even though I was on 100 mg (every 3 hours) and I took it for 4 days. Basically there was little to nothing, but it appeared to make my yeast issues worse. I don't think I'll be taking it again, as I have severe yeast problems and this has not helped. So much for the "anti pathogen" qualities of ALA!
But it is good stuff, it's a powerful antioxidant, good for the liver, raises glutathione, and also happens to be a powerful mercury chelator at the sametime! I just feel it is problematic for yeast, though Andy says it doesn't feed yeast "all that much" and he thinks people should just treat their yeast and keep chelating.
I hope that you will start to notice some changes from this, because major brain fog/deadness is a pretty strong indicator! At least, it always was for me.

I think im gonna stay off the ALA as im sure its affecting my yeast problems like you said it does. I get all depressed when i take it. A symptoms i dont get when im on DMSA, i know sooner or later im gonna have to take it though. Incidently if you have yeast problems Formula SF722 is the best product there is. Im on day 17 using it and theres yeast coming out of me like never before and ive tried everything! I truly believe this is the silver bullet where candida is concerned.
The braindead symptoms were terrible . I tried to have a conversation on the phone with my girlfriend but could barely talk, it wore off about 2 hours after taking the ALA. It really is like being hit with a sledgehammer!

Hi Stuart,
If at all possible I would recommend that you take DMSA along with the ALA, it makes the side effects much more tolorable. When I first started taking ALA I started at 25mg every 3hrs along with 25mg of DMSA every 3 hrs. It turned out to be way to much, the side effects were really bad. So I ended up lowering the ALA all the way down to 2mg, and the DMSA down to 10 mg and decreasing the frequancy down to every 2hrs. I do this for 3 days on 11 days off and I've been noticing slow but steady improvement without any side effects. Plus it makes the yeast issue much easier to manage. slow and steady is the way to go. good luck!
Roger
