How essential is Adrenal/Thyroid Support during and after removal?

I want to know if anyone who has thyroid and adrenal problems has seen them get better during chelation with no other support specifically for the thyroid or adrenal apart from vitamins? I have not yet had my fillings replaced but I'm tired of waiting and I want to get it done soon. I'm wary about taking Armour after reading from someone knowledgable on one of the thyroid mailing lists that your body can become dependent on it and that 99% of people need to stay on it for life!!. I'm really not keen on that. To be honest although my labs are still bad and my temperature ranges from 36.6 to 37.2c if my digital thermometer is to be believed, I'm actually feeling pretty good even though I still have a few thyroid symtoms. I've done lots of detoxing and feel loads better even if my thyroid has only imprved a little. My adrenals are not perfect but I'm happy to take ACE to support them as I don't think the ACE is problematic to eventually withdraw from. So is it worth the risk? If I start feeling terrible I could always start on the amour after removal? Is there anything else I can do for thyroid which does not involve armour or synthoid? I have nothing against Armour for those that need it but I don't want to be dependent on anything.
Thanks for reading this, Deeelite.

Hi, I think the best support is diet to reduce yeast levels and build immunity, as it affects every other area of your body as well (including the glandular system). I, like yourself, do not really like to take something like armor, as I feel I too will wind up dependent on it and I prefer trying other methods to support every system on my body. Mercury certainly does affect these systems, including liver, gut, brain etc. Mercury also causes candida, and candida also screws up those areas. Diet can make a lot of difference to some people and sometimes dramatically. The worst culprits are caffeine/coffee, sugar, wheat/gluten and yeast. Eliminating just these alone can make the world of difference. Some people who have a serious case of it, may need to take it further by reducing or eliminating all high carb foods (fruit, grains of all kinds and high carb veges like potatoes, corn, peas etc). Plus, including more protein like eggs and meats and also healthy fats like butter, lard, olive oil, mercury free fish oil etc. And healthy low carb vegetables (stir fried, steamed and/or raw etc). Raw nuts and seeds "may" be ok, depending on the person. Almonds and brazil seem to be the safer nuts to consume. Herbal tea is a better alternative to normal tea, but coffee seems to be the worst (at least for me it is). I would steer clear of fish, because for some people this can be a significant source of mercury, even low mercury fish may cause problems (seems to do so in me). This will also interfere with detoxing from mercury. I put up quite a bit of information on another thread about thyroid and adrenals and diet and supplements, you may find that of help. I do not think you should wait too long to get the amalgams out. Unless you are on a pretty loose/poor diet and need to reduce yeast and get healthier first. Then you might want to do that for about a month beforehand, so you are in a stronger state and are battling less yeast. Supplements can be of help, they too were mentioned in the post I sent. Here is the link. http://herballure.com/ubbthreads/sh...&sb=5&o=&fpart=1Other than this, I'd personally start preparing for amalgam removal. So long as you get a reputable biologic dentist, get all the protection possible, don't do too much at onetime (probably not wise) and get a biocompatible replacement material, I see no reason to wait too long. You can support yourself well by diet and appropriate supplements, before, during and after removal. DO NOT take Vitamin C near your dental appointment. It erases much of the effects of the anaesthetic! You can resume it again after it, but stop taking it about 48 hours before any dental appointment. You should also request if possible a non vaso constrictor, non epinephrine anasethetic. They seem more toxic, plus vaso constrictors work by decreasing blood flow to the area for an extended period of time, which can contribute to problems with teeth (even dead teeth). I also request this, plus I react far worse to them too, the adrenaline as well.

You are lucky if you are in a position to decide whether to take thyroid / adrenal support or not. My adrenals were shot before I embarked on amalgam removal, and even with glandular support, I ground to a halt during the 6 month removal process because my adrenals couldn't cope. I was housebound, weak, shaky, hypoglycemic, suicidal and a total insommniac. I had no choice but to go on strong adrenal support. There is a view that amalgam removal will hit your adrenals / thyroid, no matter how strong they are to start with http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/healingnetwork/adrenals_thyroid.htmland that they require support. If you are already borderline, you may want to think seriously about it, rather than risk getting worse. Chelation is also stressful on thyroid / adrenals - I can personally attest to that. I think ACE is a good start - try that and see how you go. Best <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/byebye.gif" alt="" /> Nicola

Hmmmm I'm back on the fence. I think lean towards being cautious though. Thx for the diet info Bex, I have avoided all those foods for 6 months which has really helped. Would ACE help for high cortisol? My cortisol is high some times during the day and too low and other times, or is it only for low cortisol? Are you all on Armour or is there some other way of supporting the thyroid without taking Armour? Are you concerned about becoming dependent on it or do you think it can be weaned from at later stage of chelation? Thanks for your replys.

absolutely. My levels dropped dramatically. The two things that helped me the most was diet for yeast problems. The best thing for this is Formula SF722. This is the only thing ive taken that ever sorted my candida problem. Everything else failed. Then i took Chorella and built the doses up. This gets rid of mercury and contains iodine which is good for your thyroid. As for stuff like thyroxine and armour none of them work or will work because youre probably not converting. Taking them will make it worse more than likely.
