Hello all -
I'd like to know from those of you who are chelating before having your amalgam fillings removed and what you are or have experienced. I am in a position where my Holistic Doctor wants me to chelate with 200mgs of DMSA (every other day for 3 days) with a vitamin/supplement protocol (including vitamin C flushes) even before I have found a Dentist to start removing my fillings. I'd appreciate any responses.
If there are any past threads on this - you would be so kind as to direct me to them.

i would not do that.

i tried something similar to what has been suggested to you and it taught me not to chelate until all the amalgams are removed. What I did hurt real bad & scared the $hit out of me and taught me to research and read up and seek as much advise as possible BEFORE I did or tried ANYTHING.

Cutler recommends NOT to chelate with amalgams in.

All the people on Yahoo FDC recommend NOT to chelate with amalgams in.

I recommend you NOT to chelate with amalgams in.

Some others may say its fine, but I disagree wholeheartly with anyone that says you should.

Why?

1) the dose is way way too high
2) the timings of (every other day for 3 days) is wrong
3) chelating with amalgams still in place causes the chelator, in this case DMSA, to pull mercury from your body AND pull mercury from your amalgams in huge quantities. Because so much is pulled out, or set free, this can redistribute anywhere including you brain and you don’t want that.

I’m a bit busy at the moment and don’t have time to type more…..but please please don’t do what your dentist asked you. Its not safe.

Pls join this yahoo group and ask exactly the same question you asked here and they will have more time to answer you in full.

You just verified what my gut has been telling me.
I just regret taking the 500mg of DMPS for the chelation test.
I have received Andrew Culter's Amalgam Illness book and have just begun reading it.
I will definitely look into the Yahoo group as I continue to view the questions and comments given here.

Well done for asking and checking first….it is SO difficult not to trust our doctors and dentists…..takes real courage to question people that we have been brought up to completely trust….you gut feeling is correct….question everything in relation to mercury…the consequences of not can be rather harsh and sometimes irreversible.

A lot of the choice of chelation comes down to “risk.” You need to minimise the risks you take to get the mercury out. The cutler book will explain all. well done for buying it…. Well done for wanting to learn and protect yourself.

You did a challenge test….ooooooo! if you search DMPS challenge test on the yahoo FDC group you will find many many posts from similar people that also deeply regret trusting their doctors/dentists and doing a challenge test.

Good luck….you seem to have the right attitude…..ask lots of questions.

Don't do it! I am now chelating with ALA. I waited 10 weeks after my last amalgams were removed before starting the ALA. I was too scared to use DMSA. I wanted to wait a bit longer before starting the ALA, however I was feeling so horrible I couldn't wait any longer. I am taking 50 mg ALA every 3 hours, 3 days on and 4 days off. I have completed 3 weeks of chelation. I feel like I am making plenty of progress, as I am now feeling much better than I was a month ago.I do get a strong reaction to the ALA and feel some muscle ache when taking it. It is a good type of ache. It feels like healing is taking place. I have no idea why some people are so afraid of ALA. I am scared of DMSA. I did notice my candida symptoms flaring up when I started the ALA, however taking olive leaf extract and eating a clove or two a day or raw garlic has helped greatly with this. I am also taking 1 mg a day of molybdenum,
a gram a day of MSM, 2 grams a day of vitamin c and many other supplements.

I agree with Sunshine and JK98. I would not follow your holistic dentist's advice either. I was so sensitive to taking anything because I was so mercury toxic that I ended up in the ER 5 times within 2 months. It didn't take me long to figure out it was a mercury issue because I had a bad reaction to the flu shot that triggered the mercury problem and made me go completely numb on the left side of my body! It was a nightmare! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/deepconsideration.gif" alt="" /> I hate to think of what might have happened to me if I had take DMSA or ALA during that time. It has been three months past amalgam removal for me and I have been taking an all natural Heavy Metal Oral Chelation supplement. I began taking right after my last amalgam was out. I have also been taking Modiflan and Algin to help bind and flush out the mercury and prevent from being distributed back into your body. They have helped me feel better because they are gentle. JK - From what I have read, some people go through varying degrees side effects with the use of ALA .. again this is such a individual matter as it can effects everyone's body so differently and to such different degrees that it can be just as scary to them as DMSA is to you.

My biggest problem was candida flare ups while having the amalgams removed. I was so sick for a while that I had to stop in the middle of the remobal process for almost 6 months. It took just over a year for me to have 25 amalgams replaced. My one big regret was not taking olive leaf extract and not eating raw garlic through the replacement cycle. Raw garlic is amazing stuff. Not only is it very inexpensive(it cost me just $3 for one pound, which was 6 heads, or something like 60-80 cloves) I eat a clove or two of raw garlic a day. I cut it into small pieces, eat one small piece at a time, chew it well, and swallow it with plenty of water. I do this after a large meal. Never eat raw garlic on an empty stomach, or without taking plenty of water with it. Also don't eat too much of it(not more than 4 cloves a day, and not more than 2 after a single meal). Raw garlic is very powerful stuff. Eating too much of it, or eating it on an empty stomach or without plenty of water can cause great irritation of the digestive tract. It is a great antifungal, a great antibacterial and antiparasitic, a great source of sulfur, and a great aid in the detoxification process. Other important supplements are vitamin C(I take 2 grams a day of ester C, a grarm in the morning and a gram at night), molybdenum(I take 1 mg a day) , B vitamins(I take a B50 a day), and minerals.
