During the past 7 or 8 months, I've been experiencing a very strange symptom - that is now occurring with more frequency. It is the most painful thing I've ever had to deal with. It comes on suddenly - no announcement. It begins with horrible pain in my upper stomach area just under the diaphram. The ribs under my breasts hurt like someone kicked the poop out of me and goes around to my back - right side. The back pain makes it hard to breathe. I used a heating pad and an electric massager on back. The back pain is over my ribs distally - not medially. It is just in one large spot. Nothing helps my stomach pain. It is not indigestion or reflux. I've tried milk, tums, pepto bismol, charcoal capsules, 7-up. Nothing helps. I just moan an try not to cry and get hysterical. I just had it happen the night before last. It doesn's seem to be caused by any food I've eaten - but one never knows with food allergies. However, the attack I had the night before last made me resolve that if this symptom continues, and no doctor can figure it out and do anything to help me - I'm outta here. I told my husband I'm going to buy a gun and blow my brains out. I at least think I discovered what the pain is coming from. I finally took a big handful of Wobenzym enzymes (supposed to be anti-inflammatory) and one of my husband's 800-mg Ibuprofen. In 20 minutes the amount of pain diminished about 80%. It was now at least tolerable. This appears to be some type of NERVE pain. It is on the same meridian around my body and is affecting the top of stomach and certain area of ribs. However, I don't know if the enzymes or Ibuprofen helped the pain to lessen - maybe working together they did (synergy??). I wonder if I had used it earlier, if it would have helped. In the past, I just suffer until it goes away. This time I suffered for more than 5 hours and this was the worst the pain has ever been. My husband has never been around when this happened to me before. Often it happens in the night and I then suffer and can't sleep all night. I don't want to wake my husband and bother him. I just go to the basement where he won't hear me scream and moan and beg God to kill me. This time he was home. He wanted to lay in bed with me and rub my back. I was very mean, but when I'm in horrible pain (such as childbirth) - I don't want anyone around me at all - let alone touching me. I told him to go away, not touch me or talk to me - just get the heck away from me. He had to leave to do something that had to be done that night. He was afraid to leave me, but I told him to go and not to worry, because unfortunately these attacks don't seem to be fatal - though I hope the next one will kill me so I don't ever have to experience this toture ever again. Boy, if you want to torture someone - use nerve pain, and they'll tell you anything you want to make the pain stop. I had horrible nerve pain when I was pregnant with my first child (at 26). It was in the leg - and the neurologist was confused why I had it. It ususally only happens with overweight woman that wear girdles and cause damage to nerve in that area of leg. I was kicked hard in that area of leg by my husband early during my pregnancy. My OB doc had injected cortisone injections (4 of them) into my leg thinking it was inflammation of the bone covering. It wasn't and he sent me to the neuro doc. My body completely ignored my left leg during my pregnancy. The injections the OB doc gave me left huge impressions in my leg. I could the end of my little finger into the craters. Once I delivered, my body began to recognize my leg again and healed my constant leg nerve pain. The craters disappeared - but I've had permanent nerve damage to that area of my leg. I could poke holes in that area and not feel it - but a feather touching the area is very painful. While I was pregnant, I had to use crutches to walk - but I continued working until I delivered. The nerve pain would get very bad at night when trying to sleep. I would scream and cry and tell my husband that I just had to have my leg cut off cause I couldnt' stand the pain. Went to ER several times - but they could not do anything because I was pregnant. Luckily the horrible pain only happened occassionally or I would never have made it thru that pregnancy. The pain was pretty bad all of the time - but sometimes it would just go haywire - like the inflammation would get out of control. This appears to be what is happening to my back and stomach. Just wondered if anyone else has horrible nerve inflammation come and go anywhere in their body.

Sorry for what you are going through. Have you seen a lung specialist? My sister has a lung condition that causes pain under the ribs and round the back. The lungs swell or something.

Doris I had the similar wild pains for years. They would usually happen at night. I would be doubled over for hours. I researched and came across the named condition COSTOCHONDRITIS. I had my amalgams removed in June 2004. I have had one minor incident since. So obviusly in my case it was another symptom of mercury poisoning. By the way I would say that after 26 months my health is about 60% returned. I have very agressively detoxed with herbs, vitamins and homeopathics under the care of 2 ND's. I have only made minimal use of DMPS. I have had about 6 DMPS injections and have used one bottle of trandermal DMPS.

I used to get horrible pains in my stomach and kidneys and, on advice from my chiropracter, I stopped all sugar and the pains disappeared.

Well, I suffer several times a week from severe pain, underneath my bottom ribs, especially after waking. It is nearly unbearable sometimes. I considered asking if this was anything to do with mercury. I still have all of my amalgams, and I have a LOT. When I breathe it makes it hurt worse. It worries me, because I know the liver is somewhere under there, and how toxic it can become. I also have no gallbladder, and that doesn't help matters any.
I was also going to ask you if the dr has considered that YOU may have gallstones. I suffered for 9 mo of my life, with pain that made me non-functional. I used to scream, cry and rock back and forth...all while saying the Lord's Prayer, in hopes the pain would subside. It just continued to get worse, last longer and come more often. Doctors couldn't find out what was wrong with me. I was sure I was dying. Finally, after 2 nights in the emergency room, screaming in pain, they found out I had a very diseased gallbladder and gallstones, and they said I had around 30 days to get it out, or I would die. My surgeon said everytime I had one of those attacks, it was the equivlent of a HEART ATTACK, and I had thousands in 9 mo. They didn't know what it was, because they said it "usually" favors one side, but my pain was mostly in the middle. They had checked me for everything under the sun, including blood clots in my lungs. This all came on 2 weeks after my first child was born.
I have heard mercury can cause MOST health problems, and gallstones are probably no exception.
I also am sure that I have H.Pylori right now (bacteria that causes ulcers). I have all of the symptoms of it, including the bad stomach pain. So, if you haven't been checked for these, you might consider them. If you have any other symptoms that you would like to discuss or would like to talk privately, feel free to leave me a private message, if you'd like.

Nerve pain is the worst. B vitamins help alot ,especially B1. Research this, you may need to take a lot every couple of hours till the pain stops.

Thanks everyone so much. I see my PCP next Wednesday. I will ask her about Costochondritis and gall stones. Boy I don't want to have my gallbladder removed. I know that Andy Cutler frowns on Hulda Clark type of liver cleanses - but I will do this before I have my GB removed. My BM have been very light in color lately - which indicates not very much bile.

Sounds like a gall stone attack. there are many various herbs that will break up calcified and cholesteral stones (may not show up on CT) There are also liver flushes on curezone, but these are possibly harsh and and miniscule chance of a stuck stone causing pancreatitis. All of the above are probably better then the pain or surgery. Next time you have the pain take I beleive a tablespoon of epsom salt (see curezone) and see how quickly the pain goes away. This will relax the gallbladder/bile ducts. Does this happen after a high fat meal?

Gall bladder problems=clogged bile ducts=less mercury/copper excretion (among other things) as mercury/copper are primarily excreted in the bile, which is why algin supposely helps because bile is recycled in the intestines however the algin binds the the mercury released in the bile so that it too is not recycled.

It's likely ileocecal valve pain

If it's on the right side just below the ribs, it's likely ileocecal valve pain related to mercury passing through the gut. The night I had my amalgams removed (9 all at once at a natural dentist) I had horrible pain just below the ribs on the right side. I was sure that I had swallowed amalgam fragments and so I took a load of magnesium oxide to make sure that nothing stayed in my colon too long. The pain then intensified for a few days. At the time, I suspected that it was either ileocecal valve pain or gall bladder pain. Because it intensified, I thought it might have been related to an accidental and incomplete liver/gall bladder flush triggered by taking so much magnesium (which relaxes smooth muscle). So, I did a true flush using a magnesium sulphate/grapefruit juice/olive oil protocol. I got a lovely batch of small "stones", but the pain did not subside until I started using Sonne's clay in water (Algin will probably accomplish the same). I now think that mercury makes my ileocecal valve hurt. In fact, it serves as a kind of early warning system that, for some reason (diet or other), my body is dumping mercury through the gut, because if I don't take immediate action neurological symptoms that I know are caused by mercury soon appear.
