Russ, I have 13 amalgam fillings in my mouth. Most of them are from when I was a young girl. I am 49 now and would venture to say that many are probably 30 or 35 years old or more!!! Is it possible for me to have these fillings for so long and just be experiencing symptoms for the past few years? I've been totally not myself and getting worse for the last three or so years,(been to a ton of doctors) worse every day, waking up exhausted, achy, unmotivated, depressed and miserable. No matter how much sleep I get, I'm still exhausted. I can not exert myself at all without getting out of breath, and though I'm in great shape, I have no more stamina. I mentally want to do so many things, but feel that I am so unproductive that I can't stand myself anymore. I just can't make it happen and it's scaring me. I know this is NOT the true me and not all im my head. Could I have mercury poisoning and it's just manifesting itself after all these years?

Hi. I dont know if mercury is the cause. Anyway, see how you respond to selenium (300 mcg), vitamin C (2grams) +copper (1-2 mg).
Personally I convinced myself that mercury was the problem by seeing how much selenium helped. Selenium is one of the major antagonists of mercury, and blood levels drop when mercury is around. Then try taking also B vitamins (not megadoses, just 100% of the RDA). This stuff helped me tremendously. Good luck!

When I called the lab for some tests, they asked my how old I was. I said, "35". They said, "Yep". I said, "What do you mean?" They said, "That's about the age most people searching for solutions call." This is from My Mercury Story. The reason the ADA has gotten away with the insidious crime of recommending amalgam fillings is because mercury is stored in certain organs of the body for a long time. When the organs become saturated, the excess mercury begins to "spill over" into the blood and you enter "Stage 3" mercury poisoning. Because of this, mercury does not often show obvious symptoms for a long time. Stage 3 is when symptoms become glaringly obvious. Amazingly, I have had symptoms go away that I had lived with for so long, I didn't even realize they were problems. I'm going to be making another entry to My Mercury Story soon to get into the new discoveries about my life and the effect of mercury that I haven't?until now (4 years after removal)?realized were affecting me; Both physically AND emotionally. This information comes from the book that convinced me to get all my fillings replaced and gave me my life back. It's called: It's All In Your Head by Hal Huggins. Don't be fooled by the long-delay that persists between mercury exposure and symptoms. I cannot say enough about how my life has changed year-to-year in these past four years. I want everyone else to know and be free from this stuff. Matteo has some good advice. I experiment on myself a lot. I found 2 (actually, many) herbal supplements that did wonders and this helped me believe mercury was the cause of my health issues: (1) Chromium GTF (not picolinate) This greatly curbed my cravings for sweets. (2) Fat Grabbers. I used to take this product during every meal because without it, I would get headaches if the food had any fat at all. This is, or course, because mercury interferes with the liver's role in the metabolism of fat and, when you get too much fat in your blood, your red blood cells stick together and cannot get through capillaries. This causes oxygen deprivation in the brain, skin, joints and eyes and causes pain. Now, instead of every meal, I use Fat Grabbers once-or-twice-a-month if I'm having high-fat foods. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the selenium suggestion. I already take a lot of C and B vitamins. I'm really in touch with what's going on with my body, and that's why I know something is amiss for the past few years, but I'm going to try the selenium. It's just hard to believe that it would take so many years for the reaction to manifest itself. Meanwhile, I have a call into a biologic dentist and am waiting for a consultation appointment. Hopefully he'll help me with the testing. I live in NYC and know it's going to cost thousands, but if mercury is the culprit and I have a chance for a better life, I'll find a way to pay for it. One step at a time. Thanks again...

Thanks for getting back, but I'm a lot older than you!!! You realized it was the mercury at 35. I'm 49. Could it really have taken all these years? Some people that I've spoken to about paying thousands of dollars to do this think I'm nuts. I'm going to speak to a biologic dentist and see what he thinks. I've read your ENTIRE story from page 1 to the end and appreciate what you've written. Thanks for keeping this website up. I'll keep you posted

Hello,
I come to believe I have some serious problems with these fillings. I have had 8 fillings since I was 7-8 years old. I am now 43. About fifthteen years ago or more I have felt something not quite right with me. I got into vitamins and herbs. They made a difference, but did seem to fix things. All my teeth are in very good shape, even though I don?t brush like on should. I thought it was from not brushing my back teeth good, that they have for the last 14 years started to break off. Exposing twice or more of the filling. I had a root canal done. He did not know what he was doing. He drilled and let all the smoke and fumes for me to breath. I was spitting out particles of the mercury. I had a mouth of a lot of metal taste all that day. This was 12 years ago.
Many years ago I was very sharp in my thinking and multi tasking of thoughts. Did not have to try to remember, the information was there before I need it.. The last decade or more has been very foggy. Not as sharp as I was. Correct me if I am off in what I think could be from these fillings here. All Blood test I have had in the last few years showed I was fine.
Just some basic things here that I have experienced. I knew high blood sugar was bad. So lower must be better. I would think I was sitting wrong and the is way I would feel like I was going to past out. I would drop down to 40-44 at times. I also would pick something up and my hand would tremble and I could not stop it. My lips at times here would go numb and part of my tongue. Have a weird twitch once in awhile in my neck that my head twitches. Some years ago I was working and I would get to work in the morning and for those years sweat profusely. People would ask if it was raining outside. This has subsided these last years. A few months ago my eye lid started to twitch and I could not stop it. Was driving me nutty. For some years now I have felt like I am trap in a weird state of being. I am a very nice person and full of humor and care about people and things. But I seem to be shut in some how. I know this is not the real me. I get very depressed. I have seemed to think I was getting Alzheimer?s or Parkinson?s or something. But I know I am not. It takes a lot to focus. I can still do this and get b?s and a?s in school. Harder than before. But I didn?t have to try before. Now I have to focus on it and live for it only. I don?t think this is old age for me here.
From what I have read. I have think it is these fillings. Even the ADA says they only last for up to 15 years?
I am hurting here. I was wondering from those that bought these books and have talk to dentists that worked on them.
== Can one just go to any dentist and just have there teeth with mercury pulled and dug out and help?===
At this moment and how they have broken off I don?t think I can afford to do the major work to repair them. I think I would need implants for my molars. Right now I would rather have no back teeth and have to eat like a rabbit than live any more in this state.
I did try taking L-glutamine (free form) Did not seem to help. So I tripled it. It did make a difference for a couple weeks. But it seems to get over powered from something else after awhile. Something you may read up on and try.
Basically I can not afford thousands of dollars. Any Ideas?
Thank you very much?

I'm very sorry to hear about all the issues. Everything you mentioned is often related to mercury. Even the twitching eyelids. It's also important not to underestimate the effects mercury has on personality and mood. I used to be the most shy person you would ever have met. Not anymore. My fears have gone away with little effort from me. It's truly been life-changing in more ways than I ever imagined. Shallow heart beat is another symptom. I had that too. I would get light-headed from just walking fast or standing up from a sitting position. Depression is the most common symptom. Mercury lowers ATP and interferes with T4 to T3 conversion (thyroid hormone). This will cause depression, low energy and brain fog. Fortunately, there are some natural supplements you can take in the mean time to combat these symptoms. I wish I had money to give away. Of course, it seems that the Dentists and the ADA should be held responsible. In fact, here's a quote from the ADA (aren't they wonderful): "The American Dental Association (ADA) owes no legal duty of care to protect the public from allegedly dangerous products used by dentists. The ADA did not manufacture, design, supply or install the mercury-containing amalgams. The ADA does not control those who do. The ADA's only alleged involvement in the product was to provide information regarding its use. Dissemination of information relating to the practice of dentistry does not create a duty of care to protect the public from potential injury."The Superior Court of the State of California Case No. 718228, Demurrer (October 22, 1992) As you can see, they've known about this issue for a long time. According to this Hal Huggins interview, the ADA makes about $50 million per year from royalties from the manufacture of amalgam fillings (their streaming audio is down so I posted the interview here temporarily?Click "Open"): Hal Huggins Interview Here's the original location (if you can get it to work): Hal Huggins Interview (Original Link) Here's a video showing mercury coming off from amalgam fillings: International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology And while we're at it, here's a link showing brain cell degeneration caused by mercury (tubulin and actin dentrite degeneration): Mercury and Brain Neuron Degeneration Please keep us posted.

>“Mercury binds aggressively with selenium and renders it inactive. I believe (although >not positive) this is the reason it comes up low.” I believe your right about this. I found this on selenium here. http://www.acu-cell.com/ses.htmlSelenium supplementation is an effective way to reduce excessive mercury levels. I have monitored on a number of occasions a sharp drop in selenium levels when dental amalgams were removed, and where subsequently Slowly returned to previous levels again over a three to four week time period. - Myself these last 10 years are so. My heart is fast. I can wake up in the morn from a dead sleep and take my pulse. It can be 109. When I worked at the hospital. I sometimes would hook myself up to a heart monitor. It would show 83 while sitting. Then I would get up and walk across the station and answer some questions and come back and sit down. In less than 60 sec from just taking a few steps it jump up to 116. Then in less than 15 seconds back to 85. What would you recommend I can take to help with the thyroid? Till I can get help with my teeth. As for this matter of getting through this. What have you come across that I can do that may help me till I can get these poison removed? I saw that video from some university that showed mercury killing the dendrites. Watching that made feel that is what has been happening to me these years. Appreciate you help here, Thank you.

Mercury also binds with iodine and this is part of the reason thyroid hormone (T3) production is blocked. You said... "Myself these last 10 years are so. My heart is fast. I can wake up in the morn from a dead sleep and take my pulse. It can be 109."The same thing used to happen to me. My heart rate was always so high. All I had to do is stand up and I'd get light headed. This is because mercury causes a shallow heart beat. This process is related to mercury's affinity for sulphur and calcium. Unfortunately, most proteins have sulphur binding points (cystine subunits) and blocking those (mercury does) can cause low energy. I experienced more energy with increased protein intake. You said... "What would you recommend I can take to help with the thyroid? Till I can get help with my teeth. As for this matter of getting through this. What have you come across that I can do that may help me till I can get these poison removed?"Here's what I would do if I were you. I will place links to the product information I use in case it helps you. I sell these products so if you cannot find then anywhere else, I'll be happy to send them to you. The product information links will only work for the next 30 days or so. They automatically expire. If anyone wants detailed info sheets on these products, just e-mail me with your e-mail address and I'll send them to you. http://hocd.herballure.com/?MID=45314937228225042211 - At least 2000 mg of bioflavonoids (Vitamin C). This will protect against free radicals and perform a host of other useful functions. I prefer the product linked to above because it contains a wide range of bioflavonoids. - Vitamin E with Selenium. Very good stuff. The should be taken together (E and Sel). You need extra selenium because mercury renders a lot of it useless and it's important for the pancreas, heart and for thyroid hormone production. E is a powerful antioxidant and blockes the oxidative effects of mercury (including helping protect the brain). - Thyroid Support. This is excellent. It supplies Iodine, and a host of other things you need for proper thyroid function. I experience a small increase in energy and elevation of mood in about an hour. After 3 days in a row, the benefit is magnified and you should feel a difference. - Bifidophilus. This is a probiotic which helps populate your colon with friendly bacteria which is normally severly lacking in mercury toxic bodies. Candita is a common problem with mercury toxicity and this can help. Even if you don't think have candita-related issues, your energy and mood problems could very-well be related to high candita levels and low intestinal flora. It's a very common problem even in non-mercury-toxic people. I hope this helps. These type of supplements got me through for several years until I could finally have the removal. Taken faithfully, they made a world of difference. There are several others that may also help specific ailments but I consider these ones above, "core". Oh, by the way, I would highly recommend CoQ10 for your heart. I still take this ocassionally (in fact, I took it today). Here's some information: http://hocd.herballure.com/?MID=32664013419480563842 Best of luck and please keep us posted.

Thanks Russ this is what ive been looking for. I have an appointment with the special dentist next week but i know i probably wont be able to do anything about my fillings for a while. i'm guessing i'll get them replaced in stages, but in the mean time i'm glad i can do something other than deteriorate. your info seems bang on with what my naturopath has told me.
i'm hoping i can find this stuff locally. i was looking at the herb allure site but couldnt find the stuff you listed above, i guess i will have to wait for the catalogue. thanks again.

I thought I understood that sulfur was good to bind and excrete mercury? Why some take MSM. So I should avoid sulfur for now? I eat eggs in the morn and a lot of garlic. I added cilantro with it awhile back. But it made me very tired and burned out. Did not seem to be able to get enough sleep.
What releases. And what binds mercury? And what does both?
The last month I have been taking 1000 iu of E and 200 mcg of selenium. Some days 2000 iu of E. Last night after reading that article. I took another 200 mcg of selenium. This morning I felt a glimpse of my old self most the day today. Felt alive again. Was recalling what I was like when was a teenager vaguely. It could be just a one time thing. Going to try again tonight. I understand that when It comes to nutrients and herbs. One has to be in tune to there body. Not everything everyone takes, will give the same results. But it does work and does its job in us. Going to try the 200 mcg again tonight and see what is up in the morn.
I have been taking 500mg of ester c and bio’s a day. Years ago. Averaged 10 grams a day. Some liquid cq10 here and there. Magnesium in a good form, has help eliminate PVC’s. About 13 years ago I took mega dose’s. That sounds bad for those who don’t know. But that is just compensating for the lack of what one should have had and have.
Sorry, Did not mean to butt in here. Someone else started this tread. But I have been reading here for awhile. Since they started with the 40 years of having fillings I jumped in. I have had them for over a 35 years.

No problem. Look for the stuff locally or just let me know what you're interested in and I can have them drop-shipped directly from the manufacturer to you. I don't have a website with herbs as of yet. I've spent the past 7 years supplying Herbalists with scientific information in the form of our "HART" series of books: The HART NSP Master Reference We do the research and publish it. I do sell all of the products just as a side effect of having access to the information I do. I don't have a store or website with herbs but believe I'll put one up soon. Thanks and best of luck!

No problem. Butt in whenever you want.
Here are some responses below:
"I thought I understood that sulfur was good to bind and excrete mercury? Why some take MSM. So I should avoid sulfur for now?"
Sulphur is very important for many reactions in the body. It does bind to mercury aggressively and because of that, it can make some people really sick. This is because it "pulls" mercury from certain organs and into the blood. When mercury is in the blood is when you feel worse because it redistributes unless it's strongly bound to something. Here's what I do.
If you have no fillings remaining and you want to expedite detox, eat foods with sulphur or take MSM but make sure to take Algin along with it. This will help ensure that once mercury is in the blood, it doesn't redistribute.
I took MSM for a couple days shortly after my removal (2000) and got really sick for several days. Now, I detox slowly and gently.
"I took another 200 mcg of selenium. This morning I felt a glimpse of my old self most the day today. Felt alive again."
You probably had good blood sugar levels and higher T3 levels. T3 really changes you how feel. That's why (I believe) my thyroid supplement gives me energy and lifts my mood. Reminds me of when I was younger also, exactly.
"I added cilantro with it awhile back. But it made me very tired and burned out. Did not seem to be able to get enough sleep."
No doubt. If I eat even a little cilantro now, I'll still have a few mercury symptoms recur; Even though it's been 4 years since the fillings have been removed.
Cilantro is well-known for mobilizing mercury (and lead and possibly aluminum), but like sulphur foods, you will want to have a binding agent (Algin) available in the blood when you take it.
Are you going to have the fillings removed?
