My children all have various problems which I can see connections to coming into this world already with mercury, and nutritional deficiencies from their mother. I think that I should give them something to help get rid of toxins that they have collected already, but am confused as to which approach would be best. They already take magnesium ( they even ask for it now because they can tell the difference it makes), but I have a hard time getting them to take much else.
Any suggestions or others who have faced this?
Thanks, Missy

How old are they? Which problems do they have? I would be cautious with supplements (not saying not to give them, just be cautious). Magnesium is important, but I think the RDA is too high and it's more dangerous than one thinks. I think a natural source such as peanuts or other nuts is better (hoping they are not allergic). I had very, very wierd experiences with magnesium. Maybe its because I have reduced kidney function (I dont really know), but when I take [even from food!] 200 mg or more I get spacey-dazed. I mean very spacey, unable to think clearly at all for a lot of time, and generally weak. The few times I took some before going to ed I had very, very troubled sleep full of strange dreams- almost awake but not quite state of mind. Crazy.
Personally I would not take magnesium supplements at all, you should really be able to get enough from diet (i.e. nuts).
try to find a good diet [ok, thats almost impossbile...], do not go too much for the all veggie diet... try to put in some meat, nuts, fruit, (milk-yogurt?)...
I understand its hard to chose for someone else. If they dont want "medicines", who can blame them? Isnt it really theyre choice? If they are not sick you might hope that a good diet be enough.
If you definetely want to give them some supplements, some suggestions:
I would probably take a B supplement (which should have all 8 B vitamins, not forgetting folic acid or biotin).
If you decide to try vitamin C in medium-high doses [which I dont necessarily recommend] I believe you need some copper. Vitamin C+ copper in my experience helped terribly with the heart. If I forget copper with vitamin C for some days I start getting heart pain always. And it stops as soon as I take the copper. Many authors say you should stay away from copper if you have mercury poisoning. In my experience, copper is VITAL in making vitamin C work. Vitamin C consumes copper. This is to tell that high dose supplements, while often very helpful, can actually imbalance things.
good luck

I have researched magnesium extensively and have found that you almost cannot get too much mg, unless you have kidney function problems (you suggested that you do). Mg is excreted through the kidneys and isn't stored. Mg is VERY important for the heart as well as a co-factor for over 300 enzymatic functions. I was having heart problems a few years back and was seeing a cardiologist. He put me on beta blockers and others, but I only felt worse. After researching more, I went off the drugs and started back on mg (with dr.'s ok) and the next time I went in he said everything was much better. Your body uses mg to detox as well.
As far as bing able to get enough from food, this is very difficult as the soil is depleted. Plus, with calcium you need more mg to process the calcium or it gets deposited in your soft tissues. Women are lacking in mg, this is why they crave chocolate before their periods (cocoa is high in mg). I have no doubt of the wonders of mg. I have encouraged many people that I know to give it a try when they have told me of certain symptoms and so far all of them that have given it a try have come back to thank me.
Yes, my kids will make their own choices, but I am their mother and I can't sit back knowing what I know now and let them suffer through health problems(the way I had to) that will only get worse if not addressed. They ask me about things all the time, it is just teenagers will be teenagers- they want to just be "normal". They even will ask for mg if they have gone a few days without because they can tell how they are much better with it.
I'm hesitant to use b complex and offer it to my kids after reading that b12 can methylate mercury. Also, copper needs to be kept in a good ratio to zinc, and zinc is another area that my extended family even has deficiency symptoms.
Many of their symptoms seem to be mercury related: digestive problems, hormonal, fungal etc. so I just want to try and clear out toxins to see if that would help.
I have already converted the family (at least at home) to much healthier food choices, but can see that the past does effect your future as well.

I think chocolate cravings before periods are more for copper and manganese (necessary for producing hemoglobin) than magnesium. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
Anyway, I dont think you should decied what to take from one reply in some forum, get opinions from the internet (possibly from attendable sources), experiment and then try to make a theory on the ideal diet...
BTW do you get any dizziness at all from magnesium? How much do you take?

No, I don't get any dizziness from taking magnesium, I have less. I was very deficient and can tell when my levels are getting low again from muscle tension in back and neck and also hypersensitivity-noises that most people hardly notice make me jump a mile-that's when I have to take a bit more to get back on track.
I couldn't take enough pill form at first (because of the mercury I now understand ) to get rid of most of my problems so I searched for a form to by-pass the digestive process and am now using a ionized liquid from mag-i-cal.com. They say that you don't absorb but a certain percentage of tablets or capsules so it is hard to compare this, but I take 300 mg at night and was taking 200mg in a.m. (these times are when you are at your lowest) until last few weeks and I'm taking 300 mg in a.m. also.

Matteo,
You sound about as obsessed with copper as I am with magnesium! It's funny how you can become that way when you see something really work.
I haven't done tons of research on copper like I have mg, tell me do you think that one needs more copper because of the mercury? What do you think about zinc? I have always read that you should keep zinc and copper in proper ratio 10-1 in favor of zinc.
I notice zinc deficiency symptoms in myself , I guess because of the mercury blocking that.

The strange thing about mercury is that it affects different people differently, even to the point that some go hyper-thyroid, others go hypo; Some go diabetic, others go hypoglycemic.
Besides the fact that the major organizations (ADA, WHO, FDA) defend mercury either passively or actively, this is in-part why mercury has been so hard to diagnose.
Therefore, some with benfit from magnesium, others, copper.
Mercury is a strange thing as it is used in Voodoo and in practices of the real Magician as well as the Talmud.

We all have our favourites based on our experiences <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I dont think mercury causes copper deficiency, but megadoses of vitamin C definetely do. Vitamin C helps a lot with mercury but only if you have enough copper (and possibly other minerals). Copper helped a lot for my heart. I also probably had a diet quite high in zinc since I eat meat often, but copper isn't really easy to find if you dont eat nuts or legumes or unrefined cereals.
I am experimenting a lot with supplements recently [which I dont necessarily recommend!]. What consistently helps when I'm sick is some vit C+copper and selenium. My diet is essentially fruit, nuts and meat. Now I never managed to try algin (that Russ recommends) but I'm very curious. I guess I'll have to order it since I didnt find it anywhere.
I am about 6 months post removal of 8 amalgams (I'm 23). I am phisically much better, I play basketball with decent endurance. I think I still have some neurological problems due to mercury ( I am sometimes anxious, I lack motivation very often [which is not good for my phd], I sometimes feel not enough blood flowing to the brain, some mornings I just cant get up...).
Following Andrew Cutler's suggestions ("Amalgam illnes: diagnosis and treatment) I sometimes try the *powerful stuff*, lipoic acid, that sould help in removing amalgam from the brain.
It always worries me because it really feels like something is moving in your brain, the problem is that you dont know if its going out or in... [Cutler says you should have low mercury in the blood when you take LA to avoid the risk of getting mercury in instead of out].
Yesterday and today I'm trying to follow cutlers theory, i.e. lipoic acid every 4 hours (very hardcore stuff...). Its hard to do more than 1 day [lipoic acid mobilizes a lot of mercury from the tissues]... today I started getting very short of breath... like I was anemic... probably mercury binding to hemoglobin... Selenium helped. But I think I will stop with LA for now... Or limit myself to 1-day sessions...
Instead I decided I'm going to take saunas, that seems very helpful.
Yeah as you may have noticed I'm pretty much obsessed with supplements, although I try to limit myself. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> I guess you feel the need for supplements once your poisoned <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

An extremely healthy food that is much overlooked is WHEAT GERM. It is a shame that they remove it from bread and the like during refinement (I can understand removing bran, that is a bit like the "peel", and possibly full of antinutrients, but not the germ!!) It is full of some vital minerals such as selenium (130% rda in a portion!), chromium, magnesium, zinc, b vitamins... and probably many other vital nutrients not yet understood. Moreover it is very cheap and tastes very nice. You probably want to try if your kids like it. It is also an incredibly balanced source of the essential proteins: you can see the nutritional properties here

Like Russ said, hg effects different people differently. I am a carb person; fruits, nuts, etc. have never been able to eat much meat at a sitting, so I guess that would explain our differences with zinc and copper.
I actually was taking lipoic acid also with vit. C and glutithione a few months before having my amalgams out because I was reading a book by Dr. Sherry Rogers- Detoxify or Die. She suggests that everyone should take this each day just to keep up with all the toxins in the environment. I stopped taking it (ala) after reading that you should wait until you don't have much hg left.
She also is big on saunas-I'm just a little scared of them for myself without Dr. supervison as my mg is already low. But my friend is going to an environmental health clinic in TX and they have him doing saunas. You just need to be sure and replace your mg, zinc and others that you also sweat out.
Like you, I also get frustrated and start trying new things all the time. You are lucky that you have gotten started at such a young age.
