My wife, Nina, has just begun taking Algin to fight off mercury toxicity and after reading much about sodium alginate I thought, "Hey, why not pop a couple myself and see what happens?" Everything I'd read seems to indicate that it could be benefitial in general, even if you're not suffering from mercury toxicity or similar ailments. It seems to me like a high quality Metamucil (a la, psyllium husks) in a way. Maybe it was just placebo, because we were really hoping it would help alleviate Nina's symptoms but, I swear, 15 minutes after I took two I felt ... incredibly well. I was very alert. I felt good ... abnormally good. "High", if you will. Though I've read that is helps alleviate "toxic" symptoms, I've never read anywhere that it boosts your energy or emotional levels. Any feedback on that? I'm also curious if taking Algin is known to be acceptable for anyone and everyone (with or without symptoms). Consuming apples and other roughage as part of a daily diet is quite benefitial for human health, so it would make sense that adding seaweed to your diet would also be good for you. Is there any reason I might not want to take it? I'm not suffering what Nina has been going through lately, but we share the same diet (formerly, lots and lots of fish) and I have one "silver" dental filling in my mouth still. I'm of the belief that MOST people have a buildup of mercury in their bodies, even if they don't know or feel it. According to www.mercuryhurts.org: One in six American women of childbearing age has enough mercury in her blood to pose a risk to her unborn child. And if you take the above statement as truth, then it's a pretty good assumption that nearly everyone has problems with mercury (and other heavy metals) -- with or without metal fillings in our teeth. So it seems as though everyone could benefit from taking Algin as a daily supplement. Thoughts?

Any feedback on that? I'm incredibly glad to hear that you're experiencing the benefits of Algin. It works the same for Laura (my business partner) and I. Within about 20-25 minutes after taking it, symptoms reduce or go away completely; and the effect lasts for hours. I can even eat fish?which I love?and completely avoid symptoms by taking some Algin. I take 4 capsules before dinner and 4 a couple hours later... No symptoms! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Makes me very happy. Your energy boost may be from increased iodine availability (for general thyroid function), increased T3 (thyroid hormone), increased ATP (cellular energy, often called the energy molecule), or better blood sugar balance (mercury binds to and renders selenium useless, which is involved in blood sugar regulation, among other things). I'm also curious if taking Algin is known to be acceptable for anyone and everyone (with or without symptoms). Consuming apples and other roughage as part of a daily diet is quite benefitial for human health, so it would make sense that adding seaweed to your diet would also be good for you. I know Algin to be good for several types of heavy metal detox and can be used to protect against damage caused by radioactivity. I have heard from practitioners in the field that it's somewhat commonly-used for protection during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I do believe that Algin is fine for anyone to take who wants to, but I'm not sure everyone needs it. Although, in today's world, perhaps many or most do need it because of the prevalance of heavy metals in the home, work and natural environments.I'm of the belief that MOST people have a buildup of mercury in their bodies, even if they don't know or feel it. I think you're right. One very interesting aspect is the emotional change I have experienced in the past 4 years since I've had my silver fillings replaced. My fears and phobias have mostly vanished. It's unbelieveable. From the fear of public speaking (rejection) to general low self-esteem, my emotional state (and strength) has gone from 1 to 9! I wonder how many other people suffer from emotional issues or phobias and never make the connection to mercury. So it seems as though everyone could benefit from taking Algin as a daily supplement.
Thoughts?
Yes, it is quite possible that countless people would benefit, even if they don't believe anything is wrong with them. For example, I lived with certain physical and emotional symptoms since my teenage years and never realized that they were "symptoms" at all. Ranging from various emotional issues (lonliness, low self esteem, depression, shyness, socially withdrawn) to itchy inner ears to itchy eyes to tight and pulled muscles in my neck. These are things I did not write into my mercury story: http://herballure.com/mmsbecause I didn't realize they were mercury-related. In fact, let me share just how profound mercury has played this role in my life. I honestly believe I'm single today because of mercury. Despite dating almost continuously from age 13 to 35, I never married and I now realize that I never approached a single woman because of my own low self image. Every relationship I had was initiated by the woman. I was terrified to approach women that I wanted to know. In other words, I've never been married because of the emotional side effects of mercury. I hope this isn't too personal. I just really wonder how many marriages have been broken up, how many business partnerships have divided and how many homes are "broken" because of the emotional and physical effects of mercury. I really wonder.Laura (my bussiness partner) and I both agree that if we had not had our fillngs removed (both of us), we would not be in business today. Our business is... http://herballure.comAbout Algin...To be honest, I've known about the benefits of Algin for years but have been very reluctant to mention it on this forum for fear that it may discredit me and people may think I participate in the forum only to try and sell stuff. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm so glad to finally hear about someone else who has tried it (outside of the natural health industry which has known about it for a long time) and realized the awesome benefits it offers. For integrity sake, I have offered to sell it to anyone on this forum at my cost (about $13 for 100 capsules, 475mg each) on their first order so they can see if it benefits them or not without spending more than necessary. You can also search the internet and probably find it in other locations also. Just make sure the company you buy from sticks to high quality, low-contaminate standards. Please keep me posted on how it works for you. Geez. This turned into a long message <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the wealth of feedback, Russ! I'm actually about to move to Europe in a couple weeks and intend to stock up on a supply of Algin before I go, since it's likely there isn't any of Nature's Sunshine products available overseas. I'll have to give you a call about placing an order.
Just to follow up, I took another two Algin capsuels later in the day yesterday and it definately wasn't placebo this time. There was no doubt about the way I felt: incredible! It was amazing, I feel as though I've just discovered some new wonder drug. The sensation almost kicks in right away for me (approximately 15 minutes) and there's a definate peak where I feel elated, after which the sudden rush subsides and I just feel "really good" for about an hour. I still can't get over that some crushed up seaweed could do THAT! Though I'm curious to see what side effects I'll experience after a week of regular Algin consumption; I expect I'll be making more frequent visits to the toilet due to the high fiber content and it's possible I'll become more thirsty (not that either of those side effects are bad, per se.) Any idea why it's suggested to drink so much juice with algin? Would it be any different than consuming it with lots of water instead?
Interesting thoughts about the emotional side effects of mercury. Though I'm always cautious when blaming my emotional well being on environmental or similar factors (such as dental fillings), I'm inclined to agree with your sentiments on this one. Sure, there will always be people who are just naturally shy and introverted or who have a hard time with public speaking and so on. But how much of our behavior is based on genetics or individuality and how much on what's happening to our bodies? It's proven that different substances can affect the mind and, thus, the way we behave (such as with alcohol and other narcotics), so it stands to reason that the chemicals invading our ecosystem must, in turn, affect our minds in other ways -- likely very powerful ways. And if it's a proven fact that mercury plays a role in learning disabilities with children, in alzheimer's disease, and in the harming of a fetus, then there's no way anyone can convince me otherwise that mercury and other heavy metals don't affect our individual psyche as well. Who we grow up to be must be heavily influenced by the volume of heavy metals that our bodies intake during our growing years. Of course, there's more than just mercury poisoning us -- and who knows what role these other chemicals play on our minds, such as sodium lauryl sulphate, flouride, chlorine in the water supply, which, even if you drink bottled water instead, you're still absorbing it in your skin through bathing, and so on.
I recently met up with a friend I hadn't spoken with in years and she, apparently, has acquired this incredible phobia of flying -- as if out of nowhere! By all accounts, she was never a fearful individual and not more than a few years before, I'm told, she had been flying without a second thought. Why at the age of 27 did she suddenly get this fear of flying for no apparent reason? Well, she too has silver fillings in her mouth. I won't be so quick to jump to conclusions by saying: THAT'S IT! But I also won't write off the possibility that the mercury poisoning from her fillings has created the fears either.
Very interesting topic.

I am anxious to try Algin! I am wondering about taking it with juice though. Right now I am keeping sugary things out of my diet, it really bothers me if I do. Do you have to take the Algin with juice? That would be a problem for me. Thanks, Vicki

I still can't get over that some crushed up seaweed could do THAT! I know what you mean. Actually, I would attribute that great feeling to a lack of mercury which in turn facilitates a balancing of blood chemistry, sugar, and increased thryroid hormones, not to mention a myriad of other things. Isn't it amazing to think we're build to feel "good" all the time? Though I'm curious to see what side effects I'll experience after a week of regular Algin consumption Me too. Please keep us posted. Any idea why it's suggested to drink so much juice with algin? Would it be any different than consuming it with lots of water instead? Nope. I would suggest not taking algin with juice and instead stick with water. That's what I do. and who knows what role these other chemicals play on our minds, such as sodium lauryl sulphate, flouride, chlorine in the water supply, which, even if you drink bottled water instead, you're still absorbing it in your skin through bathing, and so on. So true. We're bombarded with unnatural contaminates all the time. Even fluoride is a hoax. The man responsible for selling the U.S. public on the "benefits" of fluoride left the government to work for the very industry who benefits most from having it put into the water system. Oh, who are they you ask? They are the fertilizer and aluminum manufacturers. This guy went to work for (if my memory serves me right?which it does so much more often now <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) Alcoa ( "the world's leading producer of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum, and alumina "?as taken from their own website.) They had to pay hundreds of millions to dispose of this toxic waste. Now they sell it for profit to city governments for inclusion into the water supply. Did I hear someone say the word, evil? ...And yes. Based on my own experience, I have come to believe in the profound effects of mercury on emotions. I have also discovered some studies that say mercury makes people more "submissive" and "controllable". Interesting. I won't be so quick to jump to conclusions by saying: THAT'S IT! But I also won't write off the possibility that the mercury poisoning from her fillings has created the fears either. I agree. But it sure is an interesting possibility.
