Hey, just to follow up on Nina's post...
I have a very mild form of psoriasis: two small patches of dry skin which persist on my elbows. I've never believed (and in fact have proven through my own use) that hydrocortisone and other psoriasis "medications" work. Not only is hydrocortisone a (dangerous) steriod, but repeated use causes the psoriasis to, in time, develop resistance to the drug.
I've tried countless homeopathic remedies with little success. Salt baths temporarily relieve the symptoms but the dry patches always return a few days later. Because I'm a fairly slim individual, I'm not about to attempt any of the countless diets I've read out there which involve abstaining from wheat, rice, meat, and any other form of sustenance; if all I ever ate was brussels sprouts and asparagus all day I would simply waste away and appear horribly malnourished (I'd rather deal with psoriasis, thank you very much!)
I've recently read there may be a relation between psoriasis and impurities in the blood. OK, I thought. So I need to try cleaning out my blood. It can't hurt to experiment, since we all probably need to purify the blood in our bodies. Which leads me to the subject of whey.
Living in the Balkans, now, I've recently discovered the wealth of cheeses and other dairy products available here which never seemed available in the states. Nina's mother suggested drinking this fluid that comes from a certain type of goat cheese. I've seen it before. You buy a big block of goat cheese that sits in a tub of water. The water, I always thought, was simply to keep the cheese fresh. Well, that is true, but it also happens to be what is otherwise known as whey. I never even knew what whey was other than something you can purchase at a health food store. I thought it must come from wheat! I vaguely remembered the old nursery rhyme... Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet eating her curds and whey... I still never knew what it was until I investigated a little.
So... after all this blathering, since Nina's last post we just discovered a friend of the family was diagnosed with a tumor in his liver. The only treatment he used was drinking a great deal of "goat/cow cheese water" -- or what I now know as whey -- and, evidently cured himself! True story.
Now that's not to say the tumor didn't go away on its own or that perhaps it was something altogether different, but whey, here, is a sort of "homeopathic" remedy in this part of the world and I'm going to give it a try (despite the awful taste!)
I wonder if drinking the whey is better than powdered or tableted forms. It seems to me the fresher, the better.
Anyways, feedback on the wonders of whey is most welcome!
