Caster Oil packs? Whats all that about then?

detoxing the liver, apparently. I think someone wrote about it on one of the mercury or thyroid forums, and talked about feeling the liver release toxins. Hmmm.

I have some castor oil, and the special cloths, and do it occasionally. It can be very soothing when my liver aches, as it does on round. Its standard advice from naturopaths, and you can read glowing reports on the net, but whether it actually does anything I don't know. soak the cloth with oil, put it on the liver area, add a heating pack, lie back and relax ....

hi sunshine .p : castor oil packs are a very good way to decongest the liver , lymph system and kidneys , unlike liver cleanses that only flush out the gallstones from the liver ,but do not decongest the liver ,castor oil packs will decongest the liver and flush out toxins from your system , they are very easy to do and inexpensive , if you need more info I will private message you or any one interested in doing one ,the following contains more info

Cool, thanks Mikey. That’s perfect. Wish I had discovered this a long time ago. Sounds just like my cuppa tea. I always just glossed over castor oil packs. Assumed I’d read about it somewhere around, but I can’t remember any of the books I read had it in.
That site also had recommended book which looked cool, so I ordered that. Another book for tall my pile of book to read. I have a long waiting list <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

More info would be good. Like do you have to buy special “packs” from somewhere? I also never heard of the heaters it talks about either.

The Castor Oil Detox Program

Dear Reader,
I often remember my dad telling me that when he was growing up, his mother was devoted to castor oil. At the first sign of illness in one child, she would immediately give all the children a quick oral dose of the stuff. There's no doubt it provided a rapid solution for constipation, and it must have had a positive effect on my dad's memory too, because he could vividly describe the taste and effect of the castor oil many years later.
Castor oil is a unique substance with an ancient history. Folk healers the world over have used it to treat a wide variety of conditions. Castor oil's effectiveness is probably due in part to its unusual chemical composition—a triglyceride of fatty acids with almost 90 percent of that fatty acid content consisting of ricinoleic acid. To my knowledge, ricinoleic acid is not found in any other substance, and the high concentration of this unusual, unsaturated fatty acid is thought to be responsible for castor oil's remarkable healing abilities.
Ricinoleic acid is effective in preventing the growth of numerous species of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, and molds. (J Am Oil Chem Soc 61;37:323-325) It's successful as a topical treatment for ringworm, keratoses, skin inflammation, abrasions, fungal-infected finger- and toenails, acne, and chronic pruritus (itching). Generally, for these conditions the affected area is wrapped each night in a castor oil-soaked cloth. For persistent infections, a 10- to 20-minute pre-soak in Epsom salts will generally speed healing.
Set Your "Cytes" High

While I find internal and topical uses of castor oil helpful, the most beneficial use is in the form of castor oil packs. When used properly, castor oil packs improve the function of the thymus gland and other areas of the immune system. Two separate studies found that patients using abdominal castor oil packs had significant increases in the production of lymphocytes compared to those using placebo packs.
Lymphocytes are the disease-fighting cells produced by your immune system and housed mainly in lymphatic tissue—including the thymus gland, spleen, and lymph nodes, as well as the lymphatic tissue that lines the small intestine (called Peyer's patches).
Several problems occur when lymph drainage slows and fluid accumulates around cells. First, the individual cells are forced further and further away from the capillaries. Next, the amount of oxygen and nourishment the cells receive is decreased and, under exertion or stress, some cells may die. Additionally, the cells are forced to try to survive in their own waste and toxic byproducts, which can eventually lead to the degeneration and destruction of organs. For example, poor lymphatic drainage of the heart can lead to tissue damage and even heart failure. Similar problems can occur in the liver, kidneys, and other organs.
When castor oil is absorbed through the skin from packs, several extraordinary events take place. The lymphocyte count of the blood increases as a result of the oil's positive influence on the thymus gland, lymphatic tissue, or both. The flow of lymph increases throughout the body, speeding up the removal of toxins surrounding the cells and reducing the size of swollen lymph nodes. The end result is a general overall improvement in organ function with a lessening of fatigue and depression.
Additionally, as toxicity is reduced, the pH of the saliva becomes less acidic, signaling improved health, and the Peyer's patches in the small intestines more efficiently absorb fatty acids, which are essential for the formation of hormones and other components necessary for growth and repair.
The Right Way to Do It

Castor oil packs are an economical and efficient method of absorbing ricinoleic acid and other healing components of castor oil directly into body tissues. To make a castor oil pack you will need: cold-pressed castor oil, a standard heating pad, a plastic garbage bag, two or three 1-foot square pieces of wool or cotton flannel, and a large bath towel.
• Start by placing the heating pad on a flat surface and turning the heat to high.
• Lay the plastic garbage bag on top of the heating pad to protect the pad.
• Saturate the flannel pieces with castor oil (about 1/2 cup) and lay them on top of the garbage bag and heating pad.
• The entire pack can now be placed against the body with the oil-soaked flannel against the skin. For general conditions, the pack should be placed on the abdomen. (For lower back problems place the pack on the site of the problem.)
• To help hold the pack in place and prevent oil from getting on bedding, wrap the pack and body in a large bath towel.
• Keep the pack in place for at least one hour with the heating pad set at the highest temperature tolerable to the patient.
• When you remove the pack, massage the remaining oil into the skin or clean it off with a solution of 2 tablespoons of baking soda mixed in 1 quart of warm water.
The flannel can be reused for up to one month if stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Let it warm up before the next use and add 1 or 2 tablespoons of fresh cold-pressed castor oil to the cloth.
There Is No Lymph Drug

Make an effort to improve the function of the lymphatic system in the case of every health problem. The bottom line is that the removal of cellular waste products is essential for the health of the entire body. This applies to heart disease, hemorrhoids, some neurological diseases, AIDS, and many more. There is no drug that can improve lymphatic flow. That job can be handled through the topical application of castor oil with the help of exercise and massage. Any oil you consume or apply to your skin needs to be of the highest quality. Castor oil is no different. Check your local health food store for cold-pressed castor oil.
I think you'll be more than satisfied when you experience the amazing results that can be achieved with the simple oil of the castor bean. Centuries ago, the castor bean plant was referred to as the "Palma Christe," because the shape of the plant's leaves was thought to resemble the palm of Christ. As familiar as I am with the healing power of this plant, the name may be very accurate.

The castor oil packs are really cool and is helping me a whole lot. They can do so much healing and it's nice to kick back for a while and still know you are doing something good for yourself and helping your body detox too!!! You will like them Sunshine. Just another way to detox and give the body a helping hand.

my wife and I use a castor oil pack at least once a week now they play a vital role in my detox program , I never gave much thought to them before I started using them ,but now I know how valuble they are in detoxing the body ,I will probably use them for the rest of my life , but It is recomended that when starting out you need to do a session 3 times a week for 60 min each session , for the first 2 months and then just once a week after that , I prefer a heating pad instead of a water bottle ,so you can control the heat , most people aready have them in there home ,and are very inexpensive and easy to find if you don't have one

most fabric stores sell flannel cloth, half a yard is plenty cost about 2 or 3 dollars , and most drug stores will sell castor oil very inexpensive , you may feel very minor detox symtoms after your first couple of sessions due to the toxins being removed from the body , almost like a mild hangover

I have done 3 castor oil packs this week and yeah, nice, I like them, makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I did get I mild hanger over feeling the next day, after the first one, but it was mild and I’m used to these things now days anyways.

Feels like its helping my liver so I will try and do them 3-4 times a week for a month or so.

At some point I will drink some too, but later.

glad to hear that you are using them and did not get a heavy detox hangover feeling ,your body must not be too toxic then , did you have any problems finding the items to do one ? I have not tried taking castor oil internaly , let us know how it go's

My local health freak shop had a bottle of organic castor oil. that Pukka stuff. i just ordered some more online from the link Mati posted as it was cheaper.

I have been enjoying these castor oil packs. These will replaced my liver flushing protocol. The liver flushing was too heavy duty for me so these castor oil packs fit the bill perfectly instead.

I read a really weird book about this “The oil that heals” by William A Mcgarey. I most certainly do not recommend this book unless you know about psychics and a bloke called Edgar Cayce. Very strange people….anyway…what did I learn?

Recommended is to do 3 days on the trot, 1 to 1.5 hours per day on the lower back with heat. On the third day after the pack is removed drink between 1 tbls and 1/3 cup of olive oil. Acts like a liver flush, somehow. I did it two weeks ago and it seemed to have done just that, mildly which was perfect for me. tonight I’m on my third pack in a row and I will drink some olive oil before I crash out.

Packs can be put anywhere on your body. Virtually any pains can be helped. Sprained muscles they particular recommended.

If your feet hurt, because you stand all day…or whatever…massage your feet in castor oil, do not wash it off, put your socks back on and go to bed and sleep with the socks on. Or put the oil on the feet in the morning, put yr socks back on and go to work like that. I tried that, not because my feet hurt, they don’t, but just to see what happened. Well I had lovely soft feet the next day….i thought I could detect a lightness to my feet but…who knows.

Book basically said it’s a miracle cure for everything….was a very strange book indeed, but castor oil packs works.

I was getting a rash doing these packs, right on the place where I did the packs on my lower back, was fairly nasty and lasted 3 weeks. So I stopped doing them and investigated rashes. Turns out that doing the castor oil packs releases lots of toxins and you need to wash the castor oil (and toxins) off the skin after the pack is finished. I just done three in 4 days, drank some olive oil after the third pack and no rashes whatsoever. My BM have also become darker which is sign that I am digesting more of my food, my liver/gallbladder are producing more bile to digest the food I eat. I think this is a good sign that these packs work for me.
