24 of my teeth had amalgams! I had almost all of those amalgams for over 20 years!

I don't know how the heck you're still going after having that many!!!

I had 8 amalgams. I heard somewhere that even for mainstream dentists, there is a limit of amalgams (no more than 4?) that they are actually allowed to place in a mouth...if that is so, they are breaking the rules and have done for years.

My Mother has a mouth full of amalgams, so much so that removing them would probably cause what's left of her teeth to disintegrate. They used to fill them before they even developed cavities for......preventative measures <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Yet they actually weaken the struture of the tooth I hear.

For many years I didn't realize how many I had. It is only very recently that I took an inventory. I have been ill with chronic fatigue syndrome for over 20 years. I was tested for heavy metals years ago, and my blood did not show an elevated level. Years ago I didn't understand that a blood test for mercury is worthless. I wish I had these amalgams removed years ago. The reason I started having them removed is that they are old and leaking. One tooth developed decay under the filing and needed a root canal. What really amazes me is how huge 15 of the amalgams were. I went to so many physicians about my chronic fatigue syndrome, and not one commented about how much mercury was in my mouth. Amazing!

Yes, I too have had 20 years so far of chronic illness/fatigue. Staring with amalgams and braces and later other issues occured.

I had to do my own research because nobody was really clicking onto what the problem was. One doctor did think I had candida and treated me for that, which helped me a great deal then. But it was not the underlying cause, it was the symptom of a bigger problem. One alternative health therapist clicked onto it, but I had already figured it out by the time I went to see her and she pretty much confirmed it.

I found an article on mercury toxicity from amalgams and I had just about every single symptom (down to even the most bizzare). So that was the starter for me to work on having them out.

I removed mine in my twenties over time. I've lost a great deal of my young life over illness (as you would know how that feels and many others on here too). I am very angry over it, but doesn't do me much good.

7 amalgams. my life got ruined after exposure from inapprpriate removal of just 2. (with the rest I had eeth extracted).

I especially admire those of you who've had over 10.

Thirteen amalgams for 30 years, plus braces for a couple of years in my teens. Bad tuna fish habit in my early thirties and crashed when I was 37. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

about 8, but i had a couple out years ago. i also ate alot of tuna and had loads of vaccines,probably more than others.

* 9 Amalgams on 8 teeth (3 fillings were small though)- 30 years in.
* Contact lens solution - early versions probably had thimerasol.
* Vaccines.
* Tunafish, but not frequently.
* All you can eat seafood dinners, say once a month.
* Who knows what other sources.
* EMF from cell, PC monitors for 20 years.

Add in my other bad habits, and subtract out my good habits, and you've got a walking catastrophe. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I still have 16. 8 are under crowns, 1 of which has a root canal thru it.

Loads of vaccines (had been taking the flu vax for 10yrs in a row). Got the Hep B series in college and the pneumococcal about 12yrs ago. Plus whatever I got as a child.

My Mom ate loads of Tuna while pg with me and had amalgams then as well.

I just shudder to think the Hg load I've inflicted on my daughter with my pg (I took a flu shot while pg too, cause my OB said it was fine) and the breastfeeding.

Amalgams under crowns? I thought amalgams are always removed before a crown is placed.

Nope. I've seen. He would just grind down the tooth and amalgam till he had a stump that the crown would fit on. I've seen what they looked like when my temporaries would fall off. Besides, what would he have replaced the amalgams with? He doesn't work with ceramic and he said the composites were too wimpy.

yes. its a big problem. you can't see them and you don't know they are there. the regular dentists don't think they are a problem ..... so they leave 'em in. lovely! usually when having a dental clean up the crowns are removed and checked for amalgam underneath...then the crowns r replaced.

I also wanted to note that some say the mercury under crowns leaches faster (and here I was hoping I had sealed it in) because of the metal base of most crowns causing a galvanic response with the amalgam it's sitting on. My fear in going for replacement is that I'll lose many of those teeth because the amalgams were so big, there won't be enough tooth to build the ceramic on.
