I previously used to post under the name of “Rachie”. I have not been active on this website for quite some time. I am now 2 years post removal (my how time flies!!) and thought that I would summarize my progress and hopefully inspire you to continue on with your healing process. I think that you could probably find my first posts around the 16th of July 2006.
I guess that I felt the need to remove myself from this website about 8 months ago as I became “too involved” in my thought processes about my health at that time. I was starting to feel much better and wanted “time out”. In the early days this forum was a god send for me and also a great resource in my search for wellness and healing.
Before having my amalgams removed and undergoing a detox program here is a list (probably not exhaustive) of the symptoms that I was inflicted with:
Chronic fatigue Extreme Brain Fog and short term memory loss– even to the point where I seriously thought that I would be forced to resign from my job Extreme Anxiety – made worse by my brain fog Numbness and tingling of my extremities (toes, fingers, chin and nose) Depression Poor immune system since my late teens (I am now 37) Menstrual Irregularities – breast tenderness, bloating, Extreme PMS mood swings Daily headache Mouth Ulcers Extreme sensitivity to sunlight which resulted in eye fatigue Underactive Thyroid (average TSH 5-8) Phobias and Paranoia – excessive worry about my health and disturbing phobias whilst driving etc Low Self Esteem – made worse by my brain fog
I completed my amalgam removal with all the normal safety guidelines in November 2006(holistic dentist with rubber dam, exhaust, charcoal, independent air supply etc). Hence I am now 2 years post removal. The actual process of removing the amalgams was surprisingly painless. However, to cut a long story short I ended up losing one of my large molars – (the dentist probably drilled too far) and as a consequence I endured agonizing pain for several months. My symptoms (see above) seemed to worsen for the first 4-6 months and was probably confounded by the bad tooth.
My detox protocol was very spasmodic. Some weeks I was very well behaved and ate impeccably and took all my supplements and then other weeks I would fall off the bandwagon completely. I only did 3 rounds of DMSA at around the 6 month mark (Cutler style). My daily supplement regime generally consisted of the following: 2000 – 3000 mg of Vitamin C, Lipoic Acid 50 mg x 5 times daily, increased protein in the form of protein shakes, Fish Oil, Yerba Mate, Multivitamin, Zinc Sulphate 200 mg daily, and liquid Iodine. Originally I tried fresh Coriander as a chelator but with disastrous results. I also did quite a few saunas during the first few months post amalgam removal and 1 colonic straight after my final dental revision. I also had 4 wisdom teeth cavitation sites cleaned out 12 months ago. Now, that is a disgusting procedure!!!! Way worse than amalgam replacement!!
Interestingly, my first symptom to disappear was the tingling and numbness of my extremities which was incidentally the last symptom to appear before amalgam removal (started about 6 months before removal). This symptom was actually what instigated me to undergo a total dental revision in the first place. I had endured all the other symptoms for so many years that they virtually became a part of who I thought I was. That is frightening when I look back on it all now!! When the tingling and numbness started, I seriously thought that I had Multiple Sclerosis.
My depression completely lifted after about 1 year and 2 months post tx. I am currently going through a relationship breakup and I am handling it surprisingly well. Yes, I think that you make poor relationship choices whilst intoxicated by mercury. I don't need him now!!! I would hate to think how I would have handled this a few years ago. My brain fog initially became worse for about the first 6 months and then dissipated about 6 months ago and only flares up if I accidentally eat cilantro or have a sleepless night.
I have not had one mouth ulcer since removing my amalgams. 6 months after removal my hypothyroidism became worse, but had my thyroid hormones tested 2 months ago and I was very happy with the result. Best it has been in years and no sign of antibodies. Hence I no longer believe that I have Hashimotos. I no longer freak out if I think I have lost my sunglasses. I virtually don’t wear them anymore and don't fear the sunlight!! My daily headaches are a thing of the past – I only have the occasional headache if I am dehydrated and have not had enough sleep.
My life has completely changed for the better!! I have a fantastic job that I love and that I don’t feel I will have to resign from because I am not up to the challenge. Eliminating my brain fog has probably been the most wonderful side-effect of having my amalgams removed and undergoing detoxification. Next year I will start presenting naturopathic seminars for the company that I work for. Two years ago this would have been an impossible task for me.
All in all, I have absolutely no regrets about spending in excess of $10,000 AUD for my dental revision. The improvements to my health have been very slow and in the first year it sometimes felt like I would take one step forward and then one step back. Now, 2 years later the improvements to my physical and psychological wellbeing are undeniable. I still feel that there is some more detox work for me to do. This has been highlighted by the fact that I still react very badly to Cilantro (coriander). 2 years ago I was slipping into an abyss and now the future is so bright. THANK YOU to all of you that I previously corresponded with on this website and I was very sad to hear about the passing of Sandy.
Best of health to you all Rachel

Hi Rachie, I remember you! So good to hear from you again and yes time passes fast eh? You'll note so many familiar "faces" are still here I'm happy to hear after all you have been through that you are making a breakthrough. Would you attribute any of this to the cavitation clean outs? And if so, how long after that did things start to improve? Certainly amalgam removal and chelation is necessary to clear mercury, but no amount of chelation will clear the digusting toxins that come from cavitations/infection. They aint metals, so it's a tough one to resolve. Even surgery may not always work - depends on the success the first time around. So it'll be interesting to know whether you feel your healing has been from both or one of them in particular. I'd be interested to know!!!! Thanks for sharing and again, so glad to hear of this improvement.

GOOD STUFF!!!!! I am glad to hear the future is bright, I am trying to get to that point as well this year or so. I take a different approach and avoid stuff that makes me bugged out and crazy (ALA), Cilantro was okay with me but I stopped it once I found out it bounced the stuff around and removed it from deep sttores (Did it two weeks only). Chlorella was fine and never made me worse, infact on it I felt better. I am using Selenium now as my main detox of the Mercury, some Phytosel which is from a natural source and alot stronger than the selenomethionine (I can tell the difference right away) and have to cut the pill in half and then in another half to start out slow as the full pill put me into that crazy mode I get into. I am going to get some Algin as well and use that everyday and take Zinc along with that, liquid Iodine as well later on. I have Candida along with this so you know how that is, brain fog times two and it really effects my job and performance there as it is very physical work. I am glad you are doing better and hope I am going to get it right as well with my plan, I want to do it slow and safe so I don't ever get that crazy I am going to lose it feeling while detoxing. I have read the slower the better as you have to be really careful with this stuff, it can make you ALOT worse or do permanent damage if done too quickly or the wrong way. Good luck and great post!
In Sanskrit, tulsi means literally "the incomparable one" and has been revered since ancient times. Tulsi, the holy basil, is said to have grown at the site of Christ’s crucifixion and is associated with St. Basil’s feast.
