Immunization anxiety growing

Anti-vaccine campaigns and the increasing popularity of alternative therapies are prompting more parents to question childhood vaccination programs

Dr. Peter Nieman, a Calgary pediatrician and father of four, says he sees more parents expressing concerns about the risks of vaccinating their children. He anticipates that several factors, including the introduction of new vaccines, new methods of administering vaccines (intranasal and ingestion), coupled with an increase in anti-vaccine Web sites and the growing popularity of alternative therapies, will prompt even more people to question what was once a relatively undisputed pediatric practice.

In some provinces, cost to parents of vaccinating their children is a deterrent as well. In Ontario, it can cost parents with three children as much as $2,100 to cover the recommended vaccines, said Dr. Donna Reynolds, associate medical officer of health in Durham region.

Although there are no statistics available to support the assertion that rising parental anxiety will cause childhood immunization levels to decline, public health officials are aware of the grassroots trend.

"My concern is that it is increasing," said Dr. Nelson Ames, medical officer of health for the Interior Health Authority based in Nelson, B.C. "We were improving on (immunization) rates. Now we're levelling off."

He knows of pockets in his region where parents haven't immunized their children, but "they don't come to tell us." Some communities are lower than the provincial average "big time," he said, sometimes as much as 10% below the provincial figure of 93%, a level which has been stable for several years. [gee....wonder if these areas are rampant with outbreaks of "vaccine-preventable" diseases!! no one is investigating that!!--ST]

"We have some concerns about it lowering as there have been some quite active anti-vaccine programs and Web site campaigns launched. That always does have an impact on a cohort of children," said Dr. Perry Kendall, Provincial Health Officer for B.C.

Anti-vaccine literature
The biggest challenge for the medical community is keeping up with the anti-vaccine literature. "There's been a flurry of materials looking at the rise of autism, even diabetes and asthma, theories linking them to a variety of vaccines. It only takes one article in a medical journal raising the possibility of an association. Even if it's refuted by eight others, it still stands out as being an ironclad warning written by the expert who braves his colleagues to tell the truth," said Dr. Kendall. [he got it partially right....there are a few brave souls that would stand up against Big Pharma!--ST]

"It's very easy to make an assertion, but to do the work to disprove the assertion can take time. We tend to be running behind," he said. Contrary to many assumptions, parents choosing not to vaccinate their children are not necessarily "hippies."

"It appears they are highly educated and generally middle- to upper-income parents, making conscious decisions because they think the risk of being immunized is greater than the risk of the disease," said Dr. Ames. [guess it is scarey to have to have bright, educated parents as patients!!--ST]

The relatively recent introduction of varicella, pneumococcal and meningococcal C vaccinations has also caused some parents to question whether there's a limit to how many vaccines a child can handle.

"It's like marathon running: The more miles you put in, the more likely you'll get injured," said Dr. Nieman. "So the more vaccines you introduce, it has to have an effect on the immune system. The experts tell us it's negligible, don't worry." [what makes them "experts"? ST]

He said he also expects new methods of administering a vaccine, such as the intranasal flu vaccines that are now available for healthy children over the age of five, will raise a host of new questions from parents, such as: "What if the kids have allergies? What if they sneeze? Do we revaccinate?" [good questions!!...ST]

Paying for vaccines
Another hurdle is getting people accustomed to paying for vaccinations that aren't available free from the public health department. Dr. Nieman has parents in his community pediatric practice who have decided not to vaccinate their children at all.

"Some of my colleagues have asked people to sign a form for medical/legal reasons. I don't do that. I just document it in the chart and have the discussion," he said. "You can offend some parents if you ask them to sign a document that they've been warned about the dangers of no vaccinations. [yes..."informed consent" is scarey when parents know the truth. In the US, this would be illegal.--ST]

"The worst is when some doctors ask the patients to leave their practice," he added. Dr. Nieman chooses to work with the parents, saying: "I'm the advocate for the child and somebody has to guide the parents." He often refers them to peer-reviewed Web sites for information such as www.vaccinesafety.edu. "I encourage them to do the research."

"I tell my patients that I'm neither pro nor con. I just deal with the facts," Dr. Nieman said. [then I guess he should get his facts straight.--ST]

While there are yet to be negative ramifications of having pockets of non-immunized people, Dr. Ames said he is concerned about what the future holds. "The 'I'm OK, it's your problem' attitude will ultimately cause problems. The altruistic part of me has a problem with that. Immunization isn't just for you, it's for the community," he said. "A core group of people immunized provides protection for all of us." [so, if you are the one the is "sacrificed" what does the "community" do about that?? Mostly deny that it was the vaccine that caused the problem. ST]

Dr. Nieman concluded: "Vaccines work so darn well that people forget what happens if we don't vaccinate."

The answer to that question is complicated.

The key to making the right decision is education. Once you begin looking into this issue, you will see that there is much political influence (money) forming public opinion via the mm (mainstream media), but you will also be very glad you took time to educate yourself.

In my personal research, I've come to the conclusion (and many across this nation have also) that the truth about vaccinations (and disease in general) is so different from what we've been exposed to that the typical American finds it difficult to even believe the truth once they find it.

The question was about protecting a child against polio without vaccination and your answer was "the answer to that question is complicated?" Then you try to sell a video tape? Hmm. Looks like the pot calling the kettle black, only you are a bit worse as you are urging parents to not vaccinate and putting their children at risk of death. Tell you what, let's go visit a few old cemeteries and read the stones, lets go back to the dates before vaccination. If vaccination ceases, it might be a good idea to buy stock in a casket manufacturer, one that specializes in little white caskets.

I am not advocating not being vaccinated. I am advocating educated decisions.

If you read the scientific literature and don't take everything the pharmaceutical companies and mainstream news organizations (which receive large amounts of money from the pharmaceutical companies) promote as assumed truth, but rather check the information like any intelligent person should (and thankfully many do), you would realize that what you are hearing from the msm (mainstream media) is not true.

I am trying to sell this video so the true intellectual who is making honest requests for more in-depth information has access to this information. You assume my motive is bad and you are absolutely wrong.

What you don't know is that I daily sacrifice a very lucrative profession in the field of high-level computer programming in order to distribute information like this to help save lives and help people make informed decisions. I have received weekly comments from grateful people for years stating that my work AND the products that I choose to sell have saved people from sickness and improved the quality of their lives. I am very selective about the products I sell and I don't make much money doing it?not that there's anything wrong with making money so long as you're not harming people doing it. Amazingly, that is exactly what the pharmaceuticals are doing, AND, they are covering up the safe and inexpensive remedies for countless health issues that exist throughout the world.

Oh, but you didn't know that I was actually helping people, and you didn't realize that there is a pharmaceutical misinformation campaign. Why not? There is no longer any excuse for this kind of ignorance, much less condeming people who are trying to help you by exposing it. Ironically, you are more in need of this video than anyone I've met on this forum, but I won't hold my breath.

It's too bad (for you) because, if you got the video, you could educate yourself and realize that vaccines are based mostly on a lie. You would realize that there are many contaminates in them that cause more injury than would occur if the vaccines were discontinued. Yes, that's what the science says; the math doesn't lie. The information in this video is taken directly from well-respected peer-reviewed mainstream medical literature that you can read yourself and is presented by a well-known, well-respected Doctor.

And as far as making assumptions about my motives...

You don't realize that I weekly sacrifice a 5-day week (if I was programming) for a 7-day week so that I can help people who want to make informed decisions. But perhaps I'm still a bad guy in your mind because?up to this point?you've already decided that vaccines are all good and you have refused to look at the scientific literature. Instead you choose to listen to politicians and drug marketers.

Funny thing is, the fruit of my life is good. I know this because?among other reasons?I receive feedback in the form of thanks and "I'm well" messages that lives have been changed. In response to the "Anonymous" post, - I understand that you are responding with the only information you and the rest of us have been handed. I can understand that with this information, not vaccinating can seem like a scary thing. This is where you must research before you can argue. There are too many parents who have children injured by vax to say it's not a huge problem. Many parents who have had to make use of a little white casket due to vaccinations. As for Polio, there has not been a documented case of wild Polio since the 1979 - every case there after was caused by the Polio vaccine. There is so much evidence against vaccines that I could sit here all night. It would really be worth your time to investigate and formulate your own opinion.

Some interesting reading

Peekaboo has done their homework. Peekaboo has undoubtedly taken the time and effort to make that journey to the brave shores of the informed.

Even the mainstream, peer-reviewed, established medical literature clearly shows that vaccines cause more harm than they prevent. It's just that simple.

The problem is, the liars (I use this term because this is exactly what they are doing) who profit from vaccine sales have dramatically altered the numbers related to deaths from diseases their vaccines "supposedly" immunize against, and, they have altered the numbers related to deaths cause by the vaccines. In fact, they have flipped them so far that the net effect is that the fake information shows vaccines do more good than harm when exactly the opposite is true.

Check the data directly from the studies because they tell a completely different story.

Don't get your medical information from the "news". Get it from established medical studies.
