This is just a general question. How much milk should children drink? What else should they be drinking i.e. fuit juice, water etc.

According to studies and other sources of information... Children should not drink milk at all for the following reasons: - Milk often contains estrogenic hormones that are normally given to animals to make them grow bigger and produce more.
- Milk often contains pesticides that cows are exposed to in the fields.
- Milk, when pasteurized, has it's calcium changed in such a way that it becomes (at least) partly unusable to humans and can contribute to bone spurs and other calcium-related diseases. Calcium should be obtained from dark-green leafy vegetables.
There are milk product substitutes such as NSP's famous: Tofu-Moo(although some are moving away from tofu product because of concerns about aluminum.) Additional details can be obtained here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/notmilk/

Yoghurt OK, Milk Not?

It seems that those who side with the opposition against milk believe that yoghurt is OK for consumption. What's the difference? Yoghurt comes from milk, so whatever may be bad in milk (growth hormones, etc.) should also be in milk too, no?

Egan, I think it's a matter of values. If you have candida that is so bad that nothing can control it, yogurt can be a tremendous help. However, if you're trying to detox, milk prevents the excretion of mercury. This information comes from Dr. Boyd Haley speaking on this DVD: http://herballure.com/vp/mtoxWe don't know why milk has this property, but it was very consistent in the testing Dr. Haley did. Thanks.

Personally, for my family, we have trouble digesting milk. Yogurt has enzymes that make it easier to handle especially on small stomaches. I can not say yogurt is better than milk, from that aspect, but children do have to consume more calcium and protein. I can tell ya, toddlers don't chew calcium supplements! And toddlers really don't consume green anything very well. Too much broccoli and man, you have some pretty nasty diahrrea to content with. So we use what works at this point. I guess it is up to you and your personal beliefs on what you use for your family. Organic yogurt is probably better than milk. No hormones from pumped up cows. Just as women do not lactate unless they have a baby, cows don't either, so they give them hormones to induce milk production. In our case, this is the best we can do to keep the little one from being deficient.
