Help!! i really need some good advice on mercury detoxing!!i will be having 3 silver fillings removed in about a month by a mercury free dentist and i'm not sure what the best way to go about detoxing would be.I am a stay at home mother and so am on a very limited budget.i can not afford to get Iv chelation or the prescription pills.I am very interested in doing a natural detox even if it takes some time.I am not sick...other than some arthritis.But have no doubt that i need to detox as i have had numerous silver fillings over the years since i was a kid.I am 36 now.i have done alot of internet research and am very confused.Some things sound good and sometimes i read that detoxing is dangerous and metals can get redistributed and that really scares me!any advice is appreciated!

i would like to add that i did see a naturopathic dr and she recommended Metex (homeopathy under the tongue drops) along w/ a product called Complete Metal Cleanse by Enzymatic Therapy.Anyone tried this? Have also read alot about HMD......anyone doing this or tried it??

I can't make a comment about the homeopathic methods you've mentioned, because I've never tried it or heard much about them. But I used to use one called "HEELS" detox kits. This was very potent, and definitely worked, but I should have taken less and for less often when things got too much and I often pushed it past breaking point!

I basically did a few things that I now regret, because I was not aware of the risks of mercury detox. I took anything/everything just about that moved mercury around and often made myself worse in the process. Sometimes the symptoms were downright intolerable and created some frightening mental symptoms and behaviours. I had to learn that the way in which a person moves/removes mercury is VERY important. In fact, essential in my opinion.

However, other things I did were helpful. I took antioxidants, which in themselves were very powerful and I believe aided a certain amount of detox in and of themselves, as they increased my body's ability to detox better. A mercury expert here in my country sent me down some vitamin C (quality one, powder with bioflavanoids) and selenium drops. I had taken vitamin C tablets prior to this, but they did not produce the results I had from the quality powder form and the added selenium just made things even more powerful. It is wise to take the vitamin C and selenium seperately, as I hear vitamin C can cancel out some of the selenium's effects.

Just doing that alone was very powerful at first and I had to take breaks and take less of a dose until my body caught up with the detox I was undergoing. I added vitamin E later, which also helped alot too. These three were the main supplements I took which I found very helpful to my toxic condition.

However, it is recommended by Andy Cutler that people have more than that - B complex, milk thistle, magnesium, zinc, possibly a multi. The vitamin C, magnesium and B complex should be taken 3 or 4 times daily for effectiveness as they get used up quickly, particular with mercury poisoning. So you can split the doses up. Again, it depends upon what you are able to afford, so do not break your wallet. I found for me, the antioxidants with a good diet was really helpful.

I found exercise was necessary too. It helped circulation and got my sweating more, and I was able to make further progress. I used a treadmill for this. 30 minutes or so, 3 days or more a week. Overdoing things, is not advised as that too can mobilise mercury! Just walking was really helpful for me. Hot baths too! Hot enough to where I could stand it. Adding epsom salts, or even amounts of baking soda and sea salt. Usually a cup or so. This really helped me sweat in the bath.

I would defintely not recommend my initial "detox" methods in hindsight. I think the heels detox kit was probably the safer out of the other things I did, but still very potent and again, I overdid it.

Diet is really helpful, because candida and gluten intolerance is often a feature of mercury poisoning and can tip a person over the edge. Treating these brought more sanity into my life and made me healthier. I would look into this if you haven't already. Basically ditch sugar/wheat/gluten/yeast products, at least as a trial and see what happens after a few weeks. This can make the world of difference for some people.

My recommendation to you for chelation? If you are unable to afford DMSA (which is indeed expensive), then I would suggest the following:

ALA (alpha lipoic acid). This is an antioxidant that is a potent mercury chelator. It is available in any pharmacy or healthfood shop. Is much more affordable, as it's basically a supplement. It can chelate body and brain of mercury. However, it should NOT be used within the first 3 months following any recent mercury exposure (that includes amalgam removal).

It takes about 3 months before blood levels of mercury have reduced enough to be safer to use ALA. You can wait out that first three months, or some choose to use DMSA to help them reduce the levels easier. Some people may have other ways to reduce their blood levels, but be careful, because it is easy to make symptoms so much worse when mercury is involved.

The reason not to use ALA too early on is because it can cross the blood brain barrier and remove mercury from the brain, so if the blood levels of mercury are still high, it may cause more mercury to go INTO the brain. Even if it does get some out as well. It is better to wait it out for the first 3 months for blood levels to reduce, then start the ALA.

You can probably pick it up at a healthfood shop or pharmacy. I have typed out some places that sell it. Click on the link and scroll down until you find the ALA sources.

The lower the dose, the better, because it is a very strong chelator. People usually split the powder in the capsules (or split tablets up). So probably start at about 12.5 mg if you can. Some maybe ok to take more, but usually the more toxic a person is, the more difficult it is to tolerate high doses at first. As you become more detoxed, you will find you can handle much more later.

It must be taken every 3 hours (throughout the night also)to keep the blood levels of ALA at a constant level. You should do this for about 3 days on, and 3 days off as a break and repeat this cycle for months until you get the mercury out. You can alter things a little if it helps. E.g. chelate over the weekends. You can do 3 days on, 4 days off, or even a week off if you need to or want to. But it should be taken for no less than 3 days if possible.

If you do not take the ALA every 3 hours around the clock, the blood levels of this chelator will become uneven. They will spike up when you take a dose, then drop rapidly after 3-4 hours. This makes the movement/removal of mercury unpredictable and causes redistribution. This is why alot of people get so sick when they try and detox their mercury, because the mercury can be shifted around (mobilised) too much and make symptoms sometimes intolerable. This depends also on a person's natural detox abilities. Often mercury can screw up the way a person can detox, so it's a two edged sword.

This is why the protocol is important to follow to avoid making things unnecessarily worse.

No problem horsegal. Remember, don't use the ALA until 3 months post amalgam removal. Anytime after 3 months have passed should be ok to bring it onboard. It's after all amalgam is out that the blood levels of mercury will begin to reduce in about 3 months. But you then need to chelate the organs (which ALA will do).

DMSA can help alot with the early blood mercury chelation, but it's expensive and not everybody can afford it. It is not however essential anyway. ALA, according to Cutler, IS essential to remove organ mercury after blood levels have reduced.
