i had 3 teeth done about 3 weeks ago, my journey began taking the mercury out...(by the way i was sooooo sick the day after...i took the cuprimine and i know that that was what made me sick bc i took all safety measures.). one of the them was pretty sensitive to begin with. infact i had xrays done in march and 4 weeks later is when i started the procedure. the bad part is i did not have any problems when the xrays were taken just about 2 weks before the procedure i noticed hightened sensitivity to hot and cold...i was worried and told my dentist that day of the procedure, he said that would be a good place to start...should he not hae taken an xray again before taking those out? what if i had and infection. i hae been on penicillin for i think 12 days... my question is this. i had a temporary crown put on..it was really really sensitive...the tooth pain went to my ear and the muscle in my throat felt tight too. it was painful..well last monday i went in for my porcelain crown and it was so sensitive that i had to be numbedup pretty good...i am nervous because although i can drink and eat and it does not hurt i still have lingering pain in my jaw. ear, throat...i don't know if it is where i held my mouth open for so long and the joint was hurt or if the tooth can't be saved. i am so concerned bc i have already spent 2 grand on this tooth and now does that mean i will have to pull it? what do you think about root canals? i am really worried that the pain will not stop. any adice? sorry for all the questions. i just don't know who else to ask. i hae enough to deal with already and the pain is not helping.

Are you taking plenty of calcium, magnesium, zinc. viamin a, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and other Bvitamins and vitamin c? You should rinse your mouth a few times a day with very warm salt water(a spoon of salt dissolved in a cup water that is quite warm). I had plenty of gum problems after having many amalgams removed. The warm salt water helps sooth the gums.
Do you floss your teeth every day? Do you rinse your mouth with Listerine? I like the Listerine advanced, as it has zinc.
I have had 3 root canals. Some will tell you to have the tooth pulled instead, hower if the tooth isn't a wisdom tooth then you may need a bridge or implant. Root canals are not good, however quite often the alternatives are worse.
Did you already have a root canal? Root canaled teeth can be quite sensitive for a while. Warm salt water a few times a day helps greatly. Did you have a dental cleaning recently? If not, that might help. You could also try using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

i do take plenty of supplements and then some more. so that is covered. i drink salt water everyday in warm water...but haven't used it as a rinse. i need to work on flossing. i don't do this as often as i should. no i don't rinse my mouth with listerene but i can start. i have one root canal on the other side. what do i do about that? leave it? or what? this one he did, there is no root canal...and that is my concern that the nerve will not calm down. it is not as painful as it was before the real crown was put on. it was sooooooo painful with the temporary one. . i have not had a cleaning. the sensitie toothpaste i have started , before i had been using an organic one..due to trying to stay clear of flouride. i have lots of heath issues with thyroid and adrenals, trying to stay away from endocrine disruptors. but broke down and am trying the sysodyne. thanks. i am so confused.

Hi Trisha, I can imagine your distress. It's hard to say exactly what maybe happening with that tooth. Sounds like a sensitive (or perhaps injured) nerve and the pain can readily travel through the jaw and elsewhere, not always confined to the tooth. It's when the nerve is dying that the tooth will have to finally be removed. I am not sure how to tell if that is happening. I know that it is not uncommon to experience pain/sensitivity, particularly after dental work because of the trauma to the tooth from the procedure. And sensitivity to hold and cold. I've heard some people after dental work have been suffering pain for MONTHS at a time. Then things can apparently settle. It is better not to eat on that side if possible (hard things anyway). You may have to wait and see how things go for awhile. I have one tooth in particular that I have trouble with on and off. Sometimes it acts up, then it settles. This happened after getting a composite redone because it was old. Root canals are not something I"d personally recommend, having heard the risk for toxicity , but there is apparently now a another (better) way of doing them that some biologic dentists are now doing. Here is a dental website that discusses root canals and toxicity, plus a less toxic way of doing them: http://www.integrativedentalmedicine.com/ocalexic.htmlIf you could perhaps find a biologic/holistic dentist who is aware of these issues, they maybe able to suggest something for you if the pain increases or simply does not ease over time.

Trisha, I would also recommend seeking a biological dentist that is good at handling these types of issues. There is a world of difference from one dentist to another. Most just follow the statuesqoe, but some would be able to hear your story and know exactly what to do to solve the problem. Here is a link to a page for my dentist. He is amazing and extremely knowledgable. His office personnel also are good. They are always happy to speak to people. Perhaps they could offer some helpful information. In fact, I just spoke to him yesterday about a problem tooth. http://herballure.com/HotTopics/MercuryAmalgam/MercuryBattle/TableOfContents.htmlPlease let us know what you find out.
