Exciting times ahead!
I leave for the US in just over a week's time and, aside from seeing my family (which is always great), I will also be meeting with many, many like-minded people in Washington DC at the Freedom for Family Wellness Summittaking place from the 21st to the 24th of October. This event brings together some of my all-time heroes and heroines in the freedom of information movement. Individuals who have spent decades fighting to ensure that people around the world have access to the best scientifically-based information on not just vaccination - but all health issues. The speakers include Barbara Loe Fisher from the National Vaccine Information Centre; Dr Joe Mercola who runs one of the most popular internet health sites in the English language; Peggy O'Mara, editor of Mothering magazine; Dr Larry Palevsky whose incredible vaccination interview with Dr Mercola was featured in this newsletter several months ago (just go to YouTube and search for Larry Palevsky - you will find it and it's well worth a listen); Neil Z Miller, author of the Vaccine Safety Manual and proprietor of the ThinkTwice Global Vaccine Institute; and Australia's own incredible Cyndi O'Meara, author of Changing Habits, Changing Lives and inspirational speaker extraordinaire to name just a few. All in all, it promises to be an inspirational time with new connections being forged between the AVN and other active pro-choice groups from around the world. In addition to this Summit, I will be meeting with several different laboratory owners during my visit to the US to finalise the testing of Australia's vaccines for the presence of heavy metals (including mercury) and certain proteins which should not be there but which, if they are present, could be one of the causes of the recent epidemic of food allergies and anaphylaxis in our kids. I will keep you all up to date with any developments from this initiative. Living Wisdom - 
In the meantime, I also have an announcement to make about our magazine, Living Wisdom. As you are probably aware, we are very late in bringing out issue 8. We hope to have this magazine to the printer in the next 3-4 weeks and we do apologise for the delay. Nobody will miss out on their magazines - if you were entitled to 6 copies, you will still get 6 copies - they will just be a bit later then we had hoped they'd be. In addition, this will be the last issue that I will be editing. I will still be contributing articles and will be involved closely with the production of Living Wisdom, but we have been extremely lucky to have found a very experienced editor who has agreed to take the reins as of Living Wisdom 9.
His name is John Harvey and he has had a very long history of involvement with the natural health and vaccination issue. John produced and edited the magazine, Similia and has been a writer and researcher in his own right for decades.
John's involvement will allow the magazine to continue and give me more time to attend to other jobs that have been on my 'to-do' list for some time such as finishing up our series of vaccination booklets, doing more talks around the country and writing more articles for other publications. He will also be better able to ensure that these delays in publishing the magazine become a thing of the past which will be a relief to us and to you too, I'm sure. New AVN Office Hours
| |  For the time being, the AVN office will only be manned on Monday and Tuesday. Judy and Janiece will both be in to take your calls on those two days and to process your orders as well. Meryl will be answering the phones when possible on the other 3 days but there is no guarantee that she will be there. In addition, Meryl will be going overseas from the 20th of October until the 15th of November so during that period, there will not be anyone to answer phones or process orders on any other day.
Emails will also be answered on Mondays and Tuesdays so please be patient if you have written to us and haven't gotten a response straight away.

Australia is entering its third straight year of record high numbers of reported whooping cough cases. The government is blaming the small number of unvaccinated people for this outbreak, but are there other factors at work here?
Whooping Cough Epidemics and the Role of Vaccines
In full whooping cough with its range of symptoms, parents would know to keep their children away from other children and to seek prompt treatment, but vaccinated children can have whooping cough without the symptoms and be capable of spreading it to newborn babies without even knowing it.
A study in Israel, mentioned in a CDC document, found that vaccinated people were "silent reservoirs for infection":
"Vaccinated adolescents and adults may serve as reservoirs for silent infection and become potential transmitters to unprotected infants. The whole-cell vaccine for pertussis is protective only against clinical disease, not against infection. Therefore, even young, recently vaccinated children may serve as reservoirs and potential transmitters of infection."
Vaccination Debate on "The Doctors"
Of course, the Vitamin K injection has been linked with neonatal jaundice as has that first dose of Hep B vaccine.
INFANTS born with jaundice are at much greater risk of developing autism, a study published on Monday showed.
The study published in the US journal Pediatrics found full-term infants born in Denmark between 1994 and 2004 who had jaundice were 67 per cent more likely to develop autism. Neonatal jaundice is usually caused by elevated production of bilirubin, a substance found in bile that results from the normal breakdown of red blood cells.
Pediatricians feel pressure of antivaccine movement
"Parents are bombarded with false stories about the dangers of vaccines, and the result is that some are backing away from vaccinating their children," said Paul Offit, MD, chief of infectious diseases and director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and an Infectious Diseases in Children editorial board member. "This is tragic because it leaves children vulnerable to deadly disease, and it lowers the immunity of the entire community. ..."There is no answer to this question right now, but hopefully there will be studies looking at different populations of parents to try to figure out what the best way is to compel people to get vaccines," Offit said. (emphasis added)
According to Dr. David M. Salisbury, director of the Communicable Disease and Immunization Team of the London Department of Health. "The WHO discussed the evidence that there is a clear risk from influenza to pregnant women and that evidence of the vaccine posing a safety risk doesn't exist." Moreover, WHO felt that "getting into [sorting women out by] trimesters creates an unholy mess," he said at the meeting.
But Dr. Marie M. Griffin, an infectious disease specialist from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., advised the ACIP that educating women will be critical. "People will connect spontaneous abortion with the flu vaccine," she commented. "If you make this recommendation, you need to get data to prevent a backlash against the vaccine." | |

In July 2007 the General Medical Council (GMC), the regulatory body for doctors in Britain began the 'trial' of Dr Andrew Wakefield, Professor John Walker-Smith and Professor Simon Murch. The three doctors from the Royal Free Hospital in London were charged, each under some seventy headings, after publishing a paper in the Lancet that suggested a link between inflammatory bowel disease and regressive autism. The paper also reported that a number of the parents had told doctors that their child's inflammatory bowel disease had begun after their MMR vaccination.

| Correction | | In an earlier edition of our e-newsletter, we mentioned that the Chiropractic Association of Australia (CAA) had introduced policies to require practitioners to refer clients to GPs if they needed information on vaccination and were also considering mandatory vaccination for ciropractic students doing their practical work.
