I have always hated going to the dentist and getting fillings, as well as being claustraphobic(sp?) I want to get all my amalgams removed, but I have a TON of them. Does anyone know if one can be put under like the do with root canals?

I see this is an old old post, but thought that maybe someone out there still might wanna know an answer. I just had all 8 of my amalgam fillings removed October 13th and opted to be not conscious of the whole thing. My dentist began by starting an IV, then started with the gas first which knocked me silly and then he added valium to "take me away from it all" I don't remember him numbing my mouth, but he did. I don't remember any of the procedure actually. What he charged was 50.00 an hour extra for every hour he had me under. I'm thinking I was out for 3 hours. I prepaid my part before the work which was 1,200.00 and the rest submitted to insurance which was like 1,500.00 I may be looking at a bill from the dentist if the insurance doesn't cover it all. From the looks of it, it might be another 600.00 out of my pocket. The money doesn't bother me any because it's money for a good cause...ME! :-)

--Bringing an old post forward regarding 'Can you be put under to have your amalgams removed?'
--Personally, I needed to have 3 teeth removed because of amalgams. Because of brain surgery, (much earlier in life), the Hyperacusis and tinnitus are in high gear. So, yes, I had 3 teeth removed. Because of those earlier issues, there was NO WAY I could have had this done without being put to sleep.
I did have to go to a specialist 'DMD Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery'. I was blessed to have her come to our (small) town. She did a great job. Yes, I was totally sedated. KNOCKED OUT! In fact, I slept all the way home. It was expensive. We have dental surgery, but some of this was out of pocket. At least $500.00 And the Insurance covered the rest. I never got a bill so am unable to tell you anymore about the cost.
If you have amalgams (silver/mercury), it is recommended that they be removed. If you need more information regarding this, Russ (administrator), is the best person to contact. I see some people coming here to read articles on amalgams. Yes, the Cutler Protocol is said to have been helpful to some. Yet, the cost to continually take their products is quite high. Hope this helps some of you.
