A brief introduction. My name is Seán and I'm from Ireland. About 5 years ago, my health began to deteriorate after getting amalgam fillings (7 of them). Over the duration of the 5 years, I saw a number of GPs, had about 20 hospital visits, and even 2 visits to an infectious disease specialist. All of them stated that they could find nothing wrong with me.

My problems began with a newly formed intolerance to gluten & yeast based foods. My symptoms included a poor immune system, a constant feeling of being unwell, routine colds, poor bowel movements and extreme brain fog.

After alot of research, I read about the problems associated with mercury toxicity. So I opted to spend over a grand on replacing my amalgam fillings with composite fillings. The dentist I visited is the only one within my area that seems to be aware of the dangers of mercury toxicity, and he refuses to use amalgam fillings. He was very careful in removing the mercury, using a heavy suction and facemask for me when removing.

I recently sent off a lab-test to test my mercury levels. I'm awaiting on it back, but I cannot see any other reason for my health deteriorating as bad as it has. The feeling of unwellness and brain fog is particularly bad.

I've read that mercury toxicity can cause brain fog, and that it can also lead to issues such as candida growth - which might explain my intolerance to yeast and gluten.

This is my last hoorah. I've been fighting this for 5 years, and it's really got the best of me. I plan on beginning chelation, but I'm unsure whether to go down the route of DMSA or cilantro/chlorella. In the medium time, I've been taking heavy doses of vitimin C, and milk thistle and I was told it would help me. I also use glutathione supplements, but I've been told the best thing to do is to try and produce this from a high protein, meat-strong diet.

Could anyone confirm whether or not by the sounds of my story that I may infact have mercury toxicity? I have tested absolutely everyone other avenue, and just can't find a solution.

Blood tests for mercury might not show much. The body tends to store mercury in the brain, liver,thyroid, kidneys and other organs, and tries to keep it out of the blood as much as it can. Mercury can cause plenty of problems even when blood levels are low.

I didn't take a blood test for mercury, I took a urine test.

Hi Sean, if you are looking to get a diagnosis on mercury poisoning it might be worth getting a urine polyporhin test

as it can be a marker for poisoning. I am asking my GP about this aswell.

I am in N. Ireland btw, where did you go to get your amalgams replaced? There is only 1 or 2 biological dentists in the north AFAIK.

Urine tests show how much mercury is excreted in the urine. Most of the mercury that normally leaves the body is through the bowel. The amount of mercury that is excreted has no relation to how much is in the body. Some of those who are most mercury poisoned are that way since they excrete little or no mercury.

Hi Jay, I got them removed in Kilkenny, I live in Waterford so it's about a 40 minute drive. Bill McCollam is his name. Really nice guy, and very knowledgeable about mercury toxicity. He was poisoned himself years back from exposure to it with fillings, and now will only deal with composites.

As for my test - I took a urine sample, then DMSA and a urine sample 4 hours later.

Im from Dublin ive been researching mercury fillings for several months now, from what i gather Bill McCollam appears to be one of the best in Ireland.
Ive had anxiety since i was a kid and tried numerous diets, etc. but nothing really worked. i can’t pinpoint exactly if i got a filling and then my anxiety followed but i know for definite i had braces round the time when the panic kicked in.

I have roughly 10/11 silver fillings and been dwelling for months to get it done but i am apprehensive about getting it done for a few reasons

a) price, and what annoys me more is last summer i spent a grand on my teeth and the dentist put more mercury in.
b) is these holistic dentists like the guy from Kilkenny a legitimate dentists
c)Obviously will this cure me

Im not a gullible person when it comes to these things , im traditionally not into alternative medicine, but there are quiet alot of forums with ppl stating that removing these fillings dramatically altered there lives in a positive way removing panic, brain fog, shyness, etc.

Essentially my question Sean is how much per tooth roughly did it cost?
Was it worth it, do u feel better if so would you recommend me getting it?
Is the gut from Kilkenny a legitimate dentist with a degree, does he use the same white fillings as a regular dentist uses?

So of course there is a certain risk that it will not help but not removing them is very risky as well. You may suffer for the rest of your life
if you keep the mercury in your mouth.

So i would say: Just do it!!!

You really need make sure that your dentist use a protected removal procedure otherwise you may get worse instead of better and cause irreversible damage to your health.

Read a few of the mercury stories on this board and you will understand what you are dealing with.
