Despite all their pretense of scientific intellectualism, those who deny the existence of a personal Creator God are, in God's judgment, nothing but fools. The 14th Psalm, the 53rd Psalm, Romans 3, etc., all describe the inner character of all such people--whether they call themselves atheists or humanists or pantheists or whatever. This repeated emphasis indicates how strongly God feels about those who dare to question His reality. It is bad enough to disobey His commandments and to spurn His love; it is utter folly to deny that He even exists!

The Bible describes the awful descent from true creationism into evolutionary pantheistic humanism. "When they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. . . . Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator" (Romans 1:21-22, 25).

Certain atheists/humanists claim to be moral people, though their criteria of morality are often quite different from those of the Bible. No matter how admirable their humane acts of "righteousness" may seem, however, they are guilty of the sin of unbelief, the greatest sin of all. "Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is" (Hebrews 11:6).

With all the innumerable evidences of God's reality as seen in the creation and throughout history, and then especially in the Person and work of Jesus Christ, it is utter foolishness to plunge blindly into eternity to meet the God whom they deny. HMM

A major stumbling block for those who reject Christ is the clear biblical teaching that salvation is conditioned on believing on Christ as Savior. "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

But what about sincere clean-living people who do not believe in Christ, and especially those who never hear of Christ?

Paul responds thus: "O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?" (Romans 9:20). God is our Creator, and what He does is right, by definition. No one deserves salvation, for "all have sinned" (Romans 3:23), so God has a perfect right to say: "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy" (Romans 9:15).

But is such arbitrariness just? Does it not go against our Godcreated sense of fairness? Why should some have full access to hearing the gospel, and others never hear at all?

"But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world" (Romans 10:18). The fact is that all men have received at least some light. The Lord Jesus Himself said: "This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light. . . . But he that doeth truth cometh to the light" (John 3:19, 21).

Cornelius was such a man. He did not rebel against the light he had, but prayed for more light. Therefore God sent Peter to him (Acts 10), and when he heard, he believed and was saved. Perhaps God will send other "Peters" to any other "Corneliuses" who have believed whatever light they have (in nature, conscience, etc.) with the needed additional light to lead them to Christ. HMM

Evidently the believers in the early church were much like us, in that they tended to honor and favor wealthy individuals in their congregations. James commands them to reject such partiality and gives the reasons why.

The first reason is that God's perspective is just the opposite. He favors the one of low rank. "Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom?" (v. 5).

Next, we see that favoritism never impresses the rich--it always backfires. "Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?" (v. 6). Showing favoritism is not practical.

Then, note that the favored ones are probably least deserving. In fact, often "they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called" (v. 7). In doing so, they dishonor the Lord, in whose name we gather.

Finally, such favoritism is a violation of "the royal law," that summary statement of God's plan for our relationships: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (v. 8). If the law is kept, "ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin. . . . For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (vv. 8-10).

Peter (previously a bigoted Jew) had learned this lesson, first in a vision, and then in his miraculous ministry to the Gentiles. "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34).

As our text reveals, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and showing favoritism on any basis (not only riches, but color, education, ethnic, or national background, etc.) are not compatible.

So wide was Christ's view of truth, so extended His teaching, that every phase of nature was employed in illustrating truth. The scenes upon which the eye daily rests were all connected with some spiritual truth, so that nature is clothed with the parables of the Master.

In the earlier part of His ministry, Christ had spoken to the people in words so plain that all His hearers might have grasped truths which would make them wise unto salvation. But in many hearts the truth had taken no root, and it had been quickly caught away.

"Therefore speak I to them in parables." He said; "because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. . . . For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed." Matthew 13:13-15.

Jesus desired to awaken inquiry. He sought to arouse the careless, and impress truth upon the heart. Parable teaching was popular, and commanded the respect and attention, not only of the Jews, but of the people of other nations. No more effective method of instruction could He have employed. If His hearers had desired a knowledge of divine things, they might have understood His words; for He was always willing to explain them to the honest inquirer.

Again, Christ had truths to present which the people were unprepared to accept or even to understand. For this reason also He taught them in parables. By connecting His teaching with the scenes of life, experience, or nature, He secured their attention and impressed their hearts.

Afterward, as they looked upon the objects that illustrated His lessons, they recalled the words of the divine Teacher. To minds that were open to the Holy Spirit, the significance of the Saviour's teaching unfolded more and more. Mysteries grew clear, and that which had been hard to grasp became evident.

Physicists have spent enormous amounts of time and billions of dollars building supercolliders to search for fundamental particles, including the European Large Hadron Collider, which is designed to find the elusive Higgs boson.1,2 A recent article in Nature asked what kinds of discoveries in biology would garner similar attention—"the biological Higgs."3

The Higgs boson is a hypothetical elementary particle that some scientists believe dwells deep inside atoms. This tiny particle is predicted by the Standard Model of the structure of matter, but hasn't yet been confirmed. So, many physicists are interested in discovering whether or not it really exists.

In a similar way, the evolutionary model of life's origin predicts that some combination of nonliving elements could somehow come to life, and numerous theories have been offered regarding how that could have happened. Intense interest has backed both the biological and physics research questions, but the Nature article comparing the two ignored the fact that the questions involve inherently different types of investigation.

For biologists, discovering how life supposedly arose from nonliving chemicals would be worth billions of dollars. Princeton University planetary scientist Christopher Chyba wrote in 2005, "Why should we suddenly become giggly when it is biology at stake, rather than physics?"3 Stated another way, why shouldn't biologists garner the same level of enthusiasm about finding the answer to their fundamental question as physicists get in searching for theirs?

There is a clear answer: Physicists are asking a science question, but the biologists are asking a history question.

Repeatable experiments are appropriate tools to discern whether or not a Higgs boson exists in the present. But discerning "where and how life started" is a question answered by historical methods of investigation.3 Since no experiment can be performed on a past event, the historical clues can always be reorganized. Why spend so much on historical research with so little promise?

And yet much has been spent on the search for life elsewhere. Astrobiology is the study of extraterrestrial life, a "science" that George Gaylord Simpson long ago said has "yet to demonstrate that its subject matter exists."4 NASA astrobiologist Chris McKay suggested to Nature that the discovery of extraterrestrial life could verify "a standard model of biology."3 But that kind of evidence would fit into a biology-related historical narrative "model," not a physics operational "model."

To reasonably test historical models, one could compare how each fits the available clues. The best model should accommodate the most clues with the fewest caveats. Based on the assumption that raw chemicals constructed the first life on earth, the historical model of astrobiology predicts that the same process ought to have occurred elsewhere many times in a universe this vast. But how well do the data fit this model's prediction?

So far, there is no evidence for life anywhere but on earth, and there is no evidence out there for even the general conditions required for life. This is the essence of the Fermi Paradox, named for the physicist Enrico Fermi. He hypothesized that if life evolves naturally from chemicals to intelligent thinkers, then "why haven't we seen any traces of extraterrestrial life such as probes or transmissions?"5

In contrast, the biblical model of life's origins straightforwardly accommodates the fact that life has only been found on earth.6 Nor does the search for the origin of life require billions of dollars. That discovery is made simply by following the historical clues back to Genesis.

It is vitally important for every Christian to study and use the Scriptures, for they constitute our only real authority (note Matthew 5:18; John 10:35; 14:26; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; etc.). In doing this, however, it is just as important that we not misuse the Scriptures, for this can be almost as dangerous as ignoring them altogether.

Many people twist the Scriptures, seeking to make them fit some opinion of their own, hoping thereby to give a pseudo-biblical authority to their peculiar prejudices, instead of allowing the Lord to say what He means. Such distortion of Scripture has generated a plethora of cults and heresies—past and present. This was essentially Christ’s view of the Pharisees: “In vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matthew 15:9).

Similar—perhaps even worse—is claiming to receive new Scripture, or perhaps new (and authoritative) insight on existing Scripture. “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it” (Deuteronomy 4:2). “Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:6).

Cults and heretics distort and supplement the Scriptures, but still deadlier are the liberals who try to explain away the Scriptures. “If any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life” (Revelation 22:19). This act of distorting and then denying God’s Word (“Yea, hath God said. . . . Ye shall not surely die,” Genesis 3:1, 4) was the very lie of Satan which brought sin into the world. No wonder the Bible warns so severely against it!

And while this is helping many people hear the Word of God for the first time, **there are some churches that are going as far as to compromise the message of the Gospel.**

You see, many pastors today don’t want to seem too harsh or make God too unfair. So they distort the message of the Gospel to make it more palatable, and end up leading people down a path of belief in the wrong things.

Does the church need to be more relevant? Of course! But we can’t allow the pursuit of relevance to change our message and ultimately compromise who we are proclaiming God to be. We must communicate the right idea of God from the Word of God… no compromises!

If people are going to stumble, let’s make them stumble over the Gospel, not our methods or means of communication. Let the reality of the Gospel do its work in the hearts of men and women. Preach the Word of God at all times and never compromise the message!

-WHEN tragedy strikes, questions follow. Our loss of a loved one may lead us to ask God any number of pointed questions: "Why did You let this happen?" Whose fault was this?" "Don't you care about my pain?" Believe me, as the grieving father of a teenager who died tragically I have asked these very questions.

The book of Job records the questions Job asks as he sits down with friends to lament his suffering. He had lost his family as well as his health and possessions. At one point, he asks, "Why is light given to him who is in misery, and life to the bitter of soul?" (3:20).
Later, Job asks, "What strength do I have, that I should hope?" (6:11) And, "Does it seem good to You that You should oppress?" (10:3). Many have stood near a headstone placed too early and asked similar questions.

But when you read all the way to the end of the book, you get a surprise. When God responds to Job (chps. 38-41), He does it in an unexpected way. He turns the tables and asks Job questions--different questions that show His wisdom and sovereignty. Questions about His magnificent Creation--the Earth, Stars, and Sea. And the question all point to this: God is sovereign. God is all-powerful. God is love. And God knows what He is doing.

-Question: "How is Satan god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4)?"

-Answer: The phrase “god of this world” (or “god of this age”) indicates that Satan is the major influence on the ideals, opinions, goals, hopes and views of the majority of people. His influence also encompasses the world’s philosophies, education, and commerce. The thoughts, ideas, speculations and false religions of the world are under his control and have sprung from his lies and deceptions.

Satan is also called the "prince of the power of the air" in Ephesians 2:2. He is the "ruler of this world" in John 12:31. These titles and many more signify Satan’s capabilities. To say, for example, that Satan is the "prince of the power of the air" is to signify that in some way he rules over the world and the people in it.

This is not to say that he rules the world completely; God is still sovereign. But it does mean that God, in His infinite wisdom, has allowed Satan to operate in this world within the boundaries God has set for him. When the Bible says Satan has power over the world, we must remember that God has given him domain over unbelievers only. Believers are no longer under the rule of Satan (Colossians 1:13). Unbelievers, on the other hand, are caught "in the snare of the devil" (2 Timothy 2:26), lie in the "power of the evil one" (1 John 5:19), and are in bondage to Satan (Ephesians 2:2).

So, when the Bible says that Satan is the "god of this world," it is not saying that he has ultimate authority. It is conveying the idea that Satan rules over the unbelieving world in a specific way. In 2 Corinthians 4:4, the unbeliever follows Satan's agenda: "The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ." Satan's scheme includes promoting false philosophies in the world—philosophies that blind the unbeliever to the truth of the Gospel. Satan’s philosophies are the fortresses in which people are imprisoned, and they must be set free by Christ.

An example of one such false philosophy is the belief that man can earn God's favor by a certain act or acts. In almost every false religion, meriting God’s favor or earning eternal life is a predominant theme. Earning salvation by works, however, is contrary to biblical revelation.
Man cannot work to earn God's favor; eternal life is a free gift (see Ephesians 2:8-9). And that free gift is available through Jesus Christ and Him alone (John 3:16; 14:6). You may ask why mankind does not simply receive the free gift of salvation (John 1:12). The answer is that Satan—the god of this world—has tempted mankind to follow his pride instead. Satan sets the agenda, the unbelieving world follows, and mankind continues to be deceived. It is no wonder that Scripture calls Satan a liar (John 8:44).

The truth above all other truths is that God is Creator, and thus deserves eternal worship and blessing by His creatures. The lie that is greater than all other lies is that some creature—some created being or entity—is greater than its Creator, and as such is to be worshiped more than God.

The Lord Jesus Christ has made it plain that Satan, the Devil, was the father of lies. “When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). He is the one who seeks to turn men away from the Creator, because he, himself, wants to be worshiped as God.

This has been his basic lie all through the ages. “Ye shall be as gods,” he told Eve (Genesis 3:5), and the deception of humanism has persisted in many guises and in every nation from that time to this. All of ancient paganism, as well as its modern varieties, perpetuates this lie in its denial of a personal, omnipotent Creator. But modern “scientific” evolutionism, with its absolute denial of supernatural creation and its veneration of man as the pinnacle of the cosmic process of evolution, has been by far his most successful variation of this ancient lie.

This modern form of the ancient apostasy, which has already generated such would-be man/gods as Hitler, Lenin, and Mao, will eventually culminate in the man of sin, who, “as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (II Thessalonians 2:3,4), and who will be worshiped by the whole world (Revelation 13:8).

Let any who are now swayed by this ancient/modern lie of evolutionism heed God’s warning: “Because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved . . . God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a [‘the’] lie: That they all might be damned” (II Thessalonians 2:10–12).

“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man” (Psalm 118:8).

In the present chapter-and-verse divisions of the Bible, it is striking that this verse, Psalm 118:8, turns out to be the middle verse of the Bible. Although these verse divisions were not part of the original inspired text, this particular verse is very appropriate as a key verse for the word of God.

It presents the great truth of theism versus humanism; belief and trust in God as the ultimate measure of reality and meaning rather than in man. The Bible begins by setting forth God as Creator (Genesis 1:1) and ends by invoking the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 22:21), but mankind’s greatest and most basic sin has always been that of seeking to replace God with man. “Ye shall be as gods,” was the Satanic lie which induced man’s initial rebellion (Genesis 3:5).

All the ancient pagan religions were based on the arrogant evolutionary prescription that “changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever” (Romans 1:25). This false religion, in modern garb as secular evolutionary humanism, dominates the intellectual establishment in every nation of the world today, as well. The infamous Humanist Manifesto of 1973 declared: “No deity will save us; we will save ourselves.” But humanism is utter folly. Only God can save, since only God is the true Creator of life.

There are really only two basic religions or philosophies among men, one of which is man-centered; one God-centered. One is based on evolutionism; one on creationism. One is humanism; the other is theism.

And the only truly Creationist, theistic religion is Biblical Christianity, for it alone acknowledges that the eternal God is both Creator and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is infinitely, eternally better to trust in the Lord, than to put one’s confidence in man.

--Faith isn't something we can lay claim to because we were born to believing parents or have citizenship in a Christian country. Nor can we attain it by attending or even teaching Sunday school, though I've often heard such incorrect assertions. Instead, the following should be true of genuine believers.

A clear understanding of the gospel is essential for a person to believe and receive the good news of Jesus Christ. His death on the Cross was the only sacrifice required to remove our sins. God offers His grace as a 'free gift' to anyone who will receive it.

A definite decision at a particular point in time serves as a sort of landmark of the heart and mind. People do not just slip into Christianity; faith in Jesus must be chosen. Believers are those who have made a deliberate decision to trust the Lord and follow in His ways.

A blessed assurance follows the clear-cut decision so that believers can be certain of their salvation. God wants confident, assured children (1 John 5:13).

A visible symbol of what happens when someone receives the Savior--namely, baptism--illustrates dying to one's old ways and rising to new life in Christ Jesus. Believers are to take this step as a public way of identifying with Him (Matt. 28:19).

A man or woman of faith chooses to surrender to Christ, embraces the Word of God, and lives fully for the Lord. True believers no longer muddle through the practices of religion out of habit, but instead worship and rejoice in a vibrant personal relationship with the Lord.

-Peter announced: "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:14).

Many recoil at such definitiveness. John 14:6 and Acts 4:12 sound primitive in this era of broadbands and broad minds. The world is shrinking, cultures are blending, borders are bending; this is the day of inclusion. All roads to to heaven, right?

But can they? The sentence makes good talk-show fodder, but is it accurate? Can all approaches to God be correct?

Islam says Jesus was not crucified. Christians say He was. Both can't be right.

Judaism refuses the claim of Christ as the Messiah. Christians accept it. Someone's making a mistake.

Buddhists look toward Nirvana, achieved after no less than 547 reincarnations. Christians believe in one life, one death, and an eternity of enjoying God. Doesn't one view exclude the other?

-Humanists do not acknowledge a creator of life. Jesus claims to be the Source of life. One of the two speaks folly.

Spiritists read your palms. Christians consult the Bible.

Hindus perceive a plural and impersonal God. Christ-followers believe "There is no other God but one" (1 Corinthians 8:4).
Somebody is wrong!

And, most supremely, every non-Christian religion says, "You can save you." Jesus says, "My death on the Cross saves you."

How can all religions lead to God when they are so different?

Every path does not lead to God. Jesus blazed a stand-alone trail void of self-salvation. He cleared a one-of-a-kind passageway uncluttered by human effort. Christ came, not for the strong, but for the weak; not for the righteous, but for the sinner. We enter His way upon confession of our need, not for the righteous, but for the sinner. We enter His way upon confession of our need, not completion of our deeds. He offers a unique-to-Him invitation in which He works and we trust, He dies and we live, He invites and we believe.

-Today you may be bombarded by people giving advice--talk show hosts, psychics, psychologists. Take more time to listen to God than to television. At the end of the day, assess which words of wisdom you applied (or should have.)
As we read the Holy Bible, Jehovah Yahweh, YHWH, our loving, covenant-keeping God speaks to us. As we pray we speak to Him.

It's no wonder the writer of Proverbs encourages us to remember that "The name of the LORD is a strong tower," that in times of need God-fearing people run to it and "are safe" (Proverbs 18:10) When unwelcome circumstances threaten you and you feel vulnerable, reflect on Jehovah Shalom, our God of peace. Be assured--He will always be faithful to His Name. Our God,El-Shaddai, the Almighty God ~~

--THE MESSAGE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT~~

“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:22)

--Ever since sin entered into God’s created world, His message to all people of all ages has been the same. At the time of the curse, God prophesied that there soon would be a coming Redeemer—the seed of the woman who would crush the head of the serpent, although the Redeemer Himself would be made to suffer in order to do away with the effects of sin (Genesis 3:15). “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul” (Leviticus 17:11).

God repeatedly warned the people of His hatred of sin and wickedness (see, for example, Psalm 5:4-6; Proverbs 6:16-19), but He recognized that humankind was totally incapable of measuring up to His standard of perfection. That great statement of righteous requirements, the Ten Commandments, demonstrated the utter impossibility of complete compliance (Exodus 20; Psalm 14; etc.). In our text, we see that "all the ends of the earth" have the opportunity to be "saved."

This plan of God focuses on the promised Redeemer who would come to buy back humanity from its enslavement to sin. “A virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: ... and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:5-6). Jesus has always lived, in the Old and New Testaments. Jesus is God. The Triune God; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are inseparable. The Unchanging One.
