There’s not much support for evolutionary notions of mankind growing ever fitter. Just as there is no escape from death, there is no escape from biological attrition. Fossils, genetics, and history point to a relentless decline of humankind.

Fossil human bones show that men were much stronger in the past. Neanderthals were ancient people who lived in caves ranging mostly from Europe to Israel. “One of the most characteristic features of the Neanderthals is the exaggerated massiveness of their trunk and limb bones. All of the preserved bones suggest a strength seldom attained by modern humans.”

Anthropologist Peter McAllister researched fossil human footprints in Australia and found that whoever made those tracks had more speed than champion sprinter Usain Bolt. Also, European Paleolithic sites show that humans were larger then and have experienced a “marked decline in stature” from which they have not yet recovered.

Declining size and strength appear consistent with the overall genetic decline seen both in gene sequence studies and the mutation-tracking program called Mendel’s Accountant. Mutations change complicated coded cellular information, and most have almost no effect on cells. Each tiny change has so small an impact that it is not detected or removed by the cells’ genetic repair mechanisms. Simulations using biologically realistic parameters, like 60 mutations and six children per generation, clearly show that fitness decreases every generation.

The relentless accumulation of these genetic corruptions steadily corrodes the original genetic code: “If useless (or harmful) mutations are passed on to the next generations, they will form an increasingly large ballast of unusable material.”

Early writings describe heroes of great strength. The Epic of Gilgamesh depicts the real historical Sumerian King Gilgamesh as extraordinarily strong, having fought a dragon-like beast. Many other written legends tell of ancient powerfully built men. Beowulf “was firmly set in history. He was born the son of Ecgtheow in AD 495” and was famous for his size, which enabled him to fight gigantic reptiles that are now extinct in Denmark.

Scripture also describes people who were taller and stronger than today. Goliath was well over nine feet tall, and his “coat of mail” weighed about 125 pounds, in addition to other battle gear he carried. Also, the Israelites slew Og of Bashan, who was about 14 feet tall. Lifespans also dramatically decreased, as recorded in Genesis 11, again showing biological losses, not gains.

This cycle of inevitable decay began when sin and death entered the world. Fortunately, the Bible proclaims that Christ has conquered death and provides redemption from sin.

Salvation comes by believing “that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” For those who believe, Christ will ultimately “change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body.”

As through Archeology finds and the story of Nimrod in the Hebrew scriptures show Gilgamesh and Nimrod appear to be the same in history. And a flood account that is described so simular to the Biblical account would match up with this apparent truth as well.

---Clothing-- / Moral Guilt Exposed

“And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.” (Revelation 1:13)

-In the beginning, at the creation of Eve from Adam’s side, “they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” (Genesis 2:25). There was no need for shame at their lack of clothing for neither had any consciousness of sin or moral guilt. They were truly “one flesh” (v. 24), aware that their physiological differences had been divinely created to bring about God’s purposes for His creation. Any embarrassment would have been quite unnatural.

But soon sin entered; they rejected God’s purposes and plan for their lives. Satan had promised they would acquire wisdom, but what was their first taste of wisdom? “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons” (Genesis 3:7). Their shame must have been multiplied many times over as they heard God pronounce the dreadful curse on all of creation as a result of their sin. And then they had to watch as two of their animal friends (probably sheep) were slain, sacrificed to “make coats of skins” (v. 21) for their covering.

Many years later, another Lamb was slain for sin, stripped of His clothing and hanged on a cruel Cross, bearing unthinkable shame. “I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture” (Psalm 22:17-18). Today, having conquered sin and death, He reigns in heaven, “clothed with a garment down to the foot” (text verse). In His death, He arranged for us some day to be “arrayed in fine linen, clean and white” (Revelation 19:8), having “washed [our] robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:14).

-Our Founding Fathers created a governing framework based upon biblical principles. Slowly, we have changed from “one nation under God” to a group of people who no longer want Him to be involved.

Tragically, we’ve become, in numerous ways, an ungodly nation: many are driven by materialism and power; immorality and rebellion are prevalent; empty philosophy and false doctrine are widely acceptable. Underlying it all is a vocal decision to take God out of the nation’s “official business.”

Yet even in an unbelieving society, people can, as individuals, follow Jesus. But the world will continually disseminate faulty teachings, so believers must be discerning. Otherwise, erroneous messages can lead Christians to compromise their convictions. Then affections and priorities may change. Don’t let the world’s clamor make the Spirit’s voice less audible. Without His guidance, our minds become vulnerable to lies.

The Word of God is a compass that keeps us headed in the right direction—even in the midst of confusing messages all around. We need to be consistently filled with truth by reading, believing, meditating upon, and applying Scripture. God also tells us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17). If our minds are focused upon Him, unholy beliefs will not be able to take root.

The Word is our guidebook. We will still face difficulty as we live in this imperfect world—it is a confusing, dark place that entices us but never fulfills our true longings. Yet God’s truth will bring confidence and boldness, and His Spirit will direct and strengthen, enabling us to live victoriously.

-One more key piece of genetic data demonstrating a recent creation comes from ICR scientist Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson, who examined the mutation rates of DNA in the cell’s mitochondria. Mitochondria are small organelles that reside outside the cell’s nucleus. Mitochondria contain their own DNA molecule separate from a creature’s main genome. Mitochondrial DNA is typically inherited from the creature’s mother, and its mutation rates can accurately be measured to produce a molecular-genetic clock. By comparing rates in a few very different animals, Dr. Jeanson demonstrated that a creation of not more than 10,000 years ago is confirmed by these genetic clocks.9,10

The results of these genetic studies fit perfectly with the predictions of a young-earth creation timeframe but make no sense when millions of years are added to the mix—the clocks simply cannot have been ticking that long.

In the case of humans, Adam and Eve were originally created with perfect, error-free genomes—no mutations present. Then sin entered the world, and the whole creation became cursed. The human genome has essentially been on a downhill slide ever since. We are not gradually evolving better genomes. Instead, the recently measured degradation patterns and rates clearly match the biblical model and timeframe.
