United States of Autism – The Movie

Follow one man's 11,000 mile, 40 day journey across the American landscape to visit 20 families and individuals affected by autism while searching for answers for his own son. With interviews from around the nation that include the widest spectrum of backgrounds - each conducted in the participants' original language - the film weaves a broad and compelling tapestry across the spectrum of American life in all its faiths, disparities, colors, and cultures. What he learns along the way will change not only his life, but the lives of those he meets, forever. It's a story about the best days that still lie ahead for our nation, the families, and the people who give America its heart.

Dear Friends,

Today is World Autism Awareness Day.  Again.  Where has the time gone?  When you're on the front lines of autism, every day is Autism Awareness Day.

With each passing year, the CDC continues to lower the number of children affected.  Today it is 1 in 50.  Quite frankly, talking about autism statistics to raise awareness hasn't created large scale action yet. All of our awareness is doing very little to fix the problem.  We can talk for another year, and the CDC will come out and say its now 1 in 30, or 1 in 20, and we will still be talking.

We need results.  We need to reach more families and provide the treatment they need.  They need our help and we need your help. At Generation Rescue, we provide treatment, resources and support, but we can do better.  Together, we can all do better.

Take action today. Help a family by:

1.)  Share this image and ask your friends and family to support the 1 in 50 by joining Generation Rescue now.

2.)   Update your timeline cover photo with this image.

3.)   Refer a family for a treatment grant.

4.)   Share autism prevention information.

Let's take action that helps families today and prevents future generations from diagnosis. Be the action.

Sincerely,
Candace McDonald
Executive Director

RESCUE OUR ANGELS

The Annual Rescue Our Angels Cocktail Party & Auction is coming soon! The event was founded in 2008 by Michele & Peter Doyle. Inspired by the improvement seen in their now 11-year-old daughter, Caelan, from biomedical and behavioral therapies, the Doyle family wanted to give other families the same opportunity.

Last year the event raised over $100,000 to help Generation Rescue give treatment grants to families in financial need. Autism rates continue to sky rocket, currently affecting 1 in 50 children.

Join us on April 23rd for an evening of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at Chicago's hottest nightclub. Come walk the blue carpet, peak your senses and gain a better understanding of what it's like to live with autism through our unique interactive technology experience. The night's activities will be captured live through photo pops up and shared immediately to your friends at home with the swipe of your event wristband.

The Map We Needed To Continue Our Biomedical Treatment Journey

"AutismDEAL stands for Diagnose. Educate. Advocate. Live.  I feel that every family needs to do just that…get your diagnosis; educate yourself, education is knowledge, and knowledge is power; then advocate for your child, you know them best, you know what is best for them, and you know what will make them better; and then LIVE, live everyday celebrating each goal they reach, or each milestone they pass, live with them, live for them, and live because of them." Jill Tschikof shares her experience with a DAN doctor after her son Jax's diagnosis.  Read More

Money Matters: Helping Young Adults With Autism Become More Independent

For someone who is diagnosed with any of the autistic spectrum disorders and in particular their parents, managing money is an issue that can sometimes cause worry and upset, especially as children turn into young adults and both parties have to come to terms and embrace the fact that they want their independence and to be able to look after their own concerns. Very often, this can be an issue that ends up being put further back down the "to do" list, but is a crucial element of growing up and learning about life. Claire Able shares tips on how to address this issue and work towards improving it.
