EXCLUSIVE: Badnarik Weighs in on Rush to War w/ Syria #N3
Battle lines are being drawn in Washington over issues of war and domestic surveillance. The Democratic administration presses for American involvement in the Syrian civil war. They are joined by members from each of the major parties. But lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are also calling for restraint and caution.

Classified documents leaked by Edward Snowden and others have revealed widespread surveillance of Americans and foreign governments. The effects of these revelations are increasing distrust of government among the public. They are also fueling divisions in politics that do not fall along the old party lines.

John Kerry and John McCain would have been on opposite sides of a war debate 40 years ago. Today, they stand together with the president supporting a military strike on Syria. Republican Rand Paul of Kentucky took the Secretary of State to task for his viewpoints on the future of Syria. This was just a few days after former Democratic lawmaker Dennis Kucinich said President Obama may face impeachment if he attacks Syria without Congressional authorization.

Matt Drudge, normally a well-known conservative, tweeted that there is no difference between the parties. The publisher of the Drudge Report stated that politics is now "Authoritarian vs. Libertarian."

Michael Badnarik was the Libertarian candidate for President of the United States in 2004. Badnarik won the party's nomination in an unexpected fashion, beating out two better-known candidates in the contest. He is a constitutional scholar who has spent years traveling around the country, teaching classes on America's founding documents.
