-Although most Christians are aware of the Biblical doctrine of angels, few appreciate what a tremendous resource this may be. Even though they are invisible to us, angels are real, and are more involved in our personal lives than we realize.

The primary purpose for which they were created by God was, according to our text, to be servants (i.e., �ministers�) to those who are to inherit salvation. They are beings of great wisdom, �to know all things that are in the earth� (II Samuel 14:20). Furthermore, they �excel in strength� (Psalm 103:20). They can travel at tremendous speeds, �being caused to fly swiftly� (Daniel 9:21). Furthermore, there exists �an innumerable company of angels� (Hebrews 12:22), so God is able to dispatch any necessary number of them to �do His commandments� (Psalm 103:20) on behalf o His people.

Since their very existence is related to the heirs of salvation, they are intensely interested in all of God�s plans and in our own individual roles in those plans��which things the angels desire to look into� (I Peter 1:12). They serve as guardian angels (Psalm 34:7; 91:11), especially in relation to children (Matthew 18:10). They are present in each local church (Revelation 2:1; etc.) and, while they minister to the church, they also themselves learn �by the church the manifold wisdom of God� (Ephesians 3:10). They are directly involved in the accomplishment of many providential miracles, such as Daniel in the lion�s den (Daniel 6:22). Finally, they accompany each believer at death into the presence of the Lord (Luke 16:22; II Corinthians 5:8).

Perhaps, in that day, we�ll meet the particular angels who have been assigned to our own protection and guidance, and can thank them properly. In the meantime, we might well be more appreciative of their help, even today.

God has created �an innumerable company of angels� (Hebrews 12:22), and there are many references to them in both Old and New Testaments, but few living men or women have ever actually seen real heavenly angels-or, at least, recognized them as such. We may �have entertained angels unawares� (Hebrews 13:2), for they can assume the appearance of men on occasion, but normally they are invisible to human eyes.

Nevertheless, they are there! Furthermore, they are �all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation� (Hebrews 1:14). God has given them charge over us-that is, over each believer �that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High� (Psalm 91:1). They �excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word� (Psalm 103:20).

Wide is the variety of His commandments with respect to angelic ministry to believers. �The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them. . . . They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone� (Psalms 34:7; 91:12).

Not only physical protection but also guidance and encouragement are angelic ministries. When a believer dies, angels translate his spirit to the Lord�s presence (Luke 16:22; II Corinthians 5:8), and we can look forward then to meeting and thanking them personally as we come to understand better all their ministries on our behalf during our lifetimes.

Angels are keenly concerned with our salvation and spiritual progress, �which things the angels desire to look into� (I Peter 1:12). Finally, �when the Son of man shall come in His glory,� He will bring �all the holy angels with Him� (Matthew 25:31) as He judges the world.

There is �an innumerable company of angels� in heaven (Hebrews 12:22) who serve as �ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation� (Hebrews 1:14).

At the same time, it is instructive to realize we also have a ministry to the angels. Despite their great power and knowledge, angels are not the �heirs of salvation� themselves, and so will never personally experience that peculiar type of love and fellowship which we share with our Lord and Savior. Nevertheless, as personal beings with the free will to reject their role as God�s servants if they choose, they are intensely interested in our salvation. �Which things the angels desire to look into� (I Peter 1:12).

In addition to serving for the protection and guidance of individual believers, apparently certain angels are also assigned by God to serve Christian congregations functioning corporately, especially in true local churches. Paul mentions the observing presence of angels in the Corinthian church (I Corinthians 11:10), for example.

In His letters to the seven representative churches, Christ addressed the individual angels of each church (Revelation 2:1, etc.). That these are heavenly angels (not human pastors or other human church leaders) is evident from the fact that the word �angel� is used 65 other times in Revelation, and always refers to real angels.

Finally, the words of our text for the day give a special incentive for our lives, for there we are reminded that it is through God�s dealings with �the church� that His holy angels are able to learn for themselves �the manifold wisdom of God.�

We must be very careful not to get caught up in the occult and New Age movement with their ideas of contacting angelic spirits. If you fool around with this type of spirit you are welcoming the 'enemy of our souls', Satan. DO NOT get involved with the occult and it's practices, even if you think it's just 'for fun'. Playing around in the demonic world is serious business and can cause bad things to happen to you.

Yes, we know from scripture there are evil spirits because when Lucifer/Satan was kicked out of heaven, a large army of demonic spirits went with him. BE CAREFUL! ~~

Since God�s angels are normally unseen, we have little appreciation of how intimately they are involved in our lives. �Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?� (Hebrews 1:14). As in our text, there may well be a protecting angel embracing and delivering us in times of danger. �For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone� (Psalm 91:11,12).

Angels are sometimes called on to rout the enemies of God and His people. �Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul . . . and let the angel of the LORD chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them� (Psalm 35:4�6).

Angels are intensely interested in the salvation and spiritual growth of believers, �which things the angels desire to look into� (I Peter 1:12). �For we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men� (I Corinthians 4:9). There are even occasions when �some have entertained angels unawares� (Hebrews 13:2).

There is �an innumerable company of angels� (Hebrews 12:22); beings of great power and wisdom (II Kings 19:35; II Samuel 14:20). They are not omnipotent, omnipresent, or omniscient, of course, since they�like us�were created by God, simply to obey God. �Bless the LORD, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word� (Psalm 103:20).

Finally, we shall be �carried by the angels� (Luke 16:22) into God�s presence. Then we can better understand and thank them for all the many services rendered to us here on Earth.

--Angels in the Bible

-In Genesis 3:24, as we've discovered, after Adam was expelled from the garden of Eden, God placed mighty angels and a flaming sword just east of Eden, to guard the way to the Tree of Life.

In Exodus 3:2, an angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in "a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush," and yet it was not consumed.

Numbers 22:22 features an angel of the Lord standing in the road to obstruct the way of the prophet Balaam. Nine verses later, after the Lord opened his eyes, the prophet saw the angel for who he was, a mighty force of God with sword drawn, and Balaam bowed down and fell on his face.

In Judges 6:11-12, an angel of the Lord came to Gideon and delivered an encouraging message: "The Lord is with you," he said, "O mighty man of valor."

An angel stretched out his hand to destroy the city of Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 24:16, only to be rebuked by God, who at the last minute relented concerning the disaster. "It is enough," God said to the angel. "Now stay your hand."

When the young Israelite Daniel refused to worship a golden idol and was tossed into the lions' den as punishment, it was an angel who shut the mouths of those lions, protecting him from certain death (Daniel 6:22).

Certainly we find angels in the book of Isaiah. During Isaiah's prophetic perception or revelation, he sees seraphim, angels thought to be especially devoted to the uninterrupted worship of God the Father, each possessing six wings--two to cover the face, two to cover the feet, and two with which to fly (6:2).

The text also mentions that these seraphs had audible voices, and that their calls of "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts!" made the foundations of the thresholds shake and the temple fill with smoke (6:3-4). The Bible isn't clear about whether all angels have literal wings and loud voices, but Isaiah seems sure about what he saw.

In Luke 1:26-31, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth to tell Mary that she would be the mother of Jesus. And in Psalm 91, we read that 'all' believers are protected by the sure presence of angels all around them. "He will command his angels concerning you," we are promised," to guard you in all your ways" (v.11).

Hebrews 12:22 and Revelation 5:11 reveal that "innumerable angels" exist--more than 100 million, at least--and that they are organized into ranks and offices, a massive army marching at God's command.

Indeed, there are angels out there. Even as you read the words on this page, angels may be superintending the space around you. They exist. They are real. And they are active in the here and now, certainly not because I say it is so, but because God's Word reveals it to be true. Legendary preacher Billy Graham once put it this way:

"I do not believe in angels because someone has told me about a dramatic visitation from an angel, impressive as some rare testimonies may be; I do not believe in angels because UFOs are astonishingly angel-like in some of their reported appearances; I do not believe in angels because ESP experts are making the realm of the spirit world seem more plausible; I do not believe in angels because of the sudden worldwide emphasis on the reality of Satan and demons; I do not believe in angels because I've ever seen one...because I haven't. I believe in angels because the Bible says there are angels, and I believe the Bible is the true Word of God."

Yes, Christ-followers believe in angels, but only because God himself believes in angels. He created angels. He purposed angels. He 'values' angels, and therefore so should we. ~~~

--The Ministry of Angels~

We read in Psalm 91 a powerful promise for the lover of God is: "For he [God] will command his angels concerning you," it says, "to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone" (vv.11-12).

When you and I surrender our will and our ways to the lordship of Christ, we are guarded in 'all our ways', those verses declare. I don't know about you, but I desire this type of guardianship. I crave it. I long for it. I 'need' it. And when I rest in the shadow of my heavenly Father's wings, that protection is absolutely mine.

When I choose to live in his strength instead of mine, when I choose to follow his plan instead of my own, at his perfect timing and in his perfect way, he may choose to send angels to comfort me, to bless me, to support me, to sustain me.

If you are a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, then the same is magnificently true for you.

-Angels also offer a 'ministry of guidance' in our lives. In Scripture, this guidance most often shows up as supernatural direction or as aid in passing from this temporal, time-bound life to eternity at Jesus' side. Testifying to the former, in Acts 12, we find the apostle Peter chained to armed guards in a dingy prison cell. An angel had already facilitated Peter's miraculous release from prison the first time around, so this time, King Herod said, "Let's chain not one, but fourteen Roman guards to the guy. Maybe that will keep him here."

I can just hear God briefing the angel assigned to Peter's second escape. 'We'll do a middle-of-the-night-exit, he whispers with a conspiratorial grin. Wait until Peter is fast asleep, and then quickly unlock the cell, make your way inside, tap Peter on the shoulder, and quietly lead him out. I'll make sure every door is opened for you, as you take each faith-fueled step.'

The angel did just as he was told, and Peter was a free man once again. ~~~

--I was hoping not to get into mentioning the 'demonic angels'. They are real and are spoken of in the Word of God. I mention it now because I see another poster has brought up the topic again about 'UFO's and Aliens, etc'.

That is called besetting vulnerabilites or obsessions or weak areas that seem to require special attention if they're ever to be overcome. In other words this is getting involved in the occult. It is very dangerous territory and can cause evil forces to surround us and in our homes. in --Second Corinthians 10:3-5 :

"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ."

Please DO NOT get involved with the UFO's or Alien discussions. You are making yourself very vulnerable to opening the door for Satan to enter your mind and your home. He is real and He is evil.

A stronghold is a mental fortress, something that gets stuck in our heads. It can be an unhealthy fixation, a phobia, an anxiety that shows up day by day. These thoughts will eventually control you and your thoughts, and this in direct opposition to God. Satan is a fallen angel, because God kicked him out of heaven, because he said, "I want to be like the Most High God." That is usurping authority over our Creator Jehovah.

I will not go on with this, because I feel it's evilness in my typing. Please stay away from all stories, posts, or websites that discuss this New Age theory, UFOs, aliens, or evolution topic. Thank you.

You must understand, Satan has been given dominion over much of the world. He rules over the powers and authorities of this dark world. And because of that, he creates chaos and discord in the world as much as he can. This is the reason why there's so much sickness and sin pervading our world today. This is why we MUST NOT get involved with the UFOs and New Age, Buddhist, Demonic Forces, etc. That is dealing in the occult. Jesus will not bless that. You are opening a door to Satan! Please stop it!

But the great news is that Jesus is in control. Though Satan's power is real, it's temporary. And one day, Jesus will rip open the sky and return, defeating sin, death, and Satan once and for all. Do you want to know what the world is coming to? It's coming to Jesus, for all those that have accepted Him as Lord and Savior. It's coming to Jesus, who is on His way back to rescue those who trust in Him!

--Though Satan may have authority now, remember that the day is coming when Christ will return and defeat Him forever! That day is fast approaching! Stay in the Word of God, and He will direct your steps.

--How Not to Forfeit Your Soul

Part of why Jesus' flesh-and-bones arrival on the scene was so disruptive for people was that his words, his actions, his attitude, his very person communicated a far different message than the one everyone had come to love. As we've established, humankind always has taken to the self-help bent, but as it relates to self, Jesus had only one thing to say: "Deny yourself."-Mark 8:34 / Through Jesus we get gain through loss.

Deny ourselves? Was Jesus serious? How are we supposed to get ahead, make the cut, rise above, pass muster, blaze our trail in this big bad world?

Still, He stood firm with His claim? "If you are going to follow Me, you 'will' deny yourself."

Incidentally, this claim came just before the forfeit-his-soul bit in Mark 8. By way of the fuller context, Jesus had called a crowd over that included his disciples and said these words to them?
"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his Cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." (vv.34-38)

Clearly, in Jesus' mind, there is a connection between denying ourselves and not forfeiting our souls. Between denying ourselves and following Jesus Christ as Lord. There is a connection between denying ourselves and saving our very lives.

We are called to put others first and ourselves last. It is in giving that we receive. That is 180 degrees from the ways of the world. It is by laying ourselves down that we are lifted up. It is in our very denial of self that you and I are fulfilled. ~~~~

--You are in your car driving home. Thoughts wander to the game you want to see or meal you want to eat, when suddenly a sound unlike any you've ever heard fills the air. The sound is high above you. A trumpet? A choir? A choir of trumpets? You don't know, but you want to know. So you pull over, get out of your car, and look up. As you do, you see you aren't the only curious one. The roadside has become a parking lot. Car doors are open, and people are staring at the sky. Shoppers are racing out of the grocery store. The Little League baseball game across the street has come to a halt. Players and parents are searching the clouds.

And what they see, and what you see, has never before been seen.

As if the sky were a curtain, the drapes of the atmosphere part. A brilliant light spills onto the earth. There are no shadows. None. From whence came the light begins to tumble a river of color--spiking crystals of every hue ever seen and a million more never seen. Riding on the flow is an endless fleet of angels. They pass through the curtains one myriad at a time, until they occupy every square inch of the sky. North. South, East. West. Thousands of silvery wings rise and fall in unison, and over the sound of the trumpets, you can hear the cherubim and seraphim chanting, "Holy, holy, holy."

The final flank of angels is followed by twenty-four silver-bearded elders and a multitude of souls who join the angels in worship. Presently the movement stops and the trumpets are silent, leaving only the triumphant triplet. "Holy, holy, holy." Between each word is a pause. With each word, a profound reverence. You hear your voice join in the chorus. You don't know why you say the words, but you know you must.

Suddenly, the heavens are quiet. All is quiet. The angels turn, you turn, the entire world turns--and there He is. JESUS! Through waves of light you see the silhouetted figure of Christ the King. He is atop a great stallion, and the stallion is atop a billowing cloud. He opens His mouth, and you are surrounded by His declaration: "I am the Alpha and the Omega."

The angels bow their heads. The elders remove their crowns. And before you is a figure so consuming that you know, instantly you know: Nothing else matters. Forget stock markets, and school reports. Sales meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy. All that mattered, matters no more, for Christ has come!

The mighty angels (�messengers�) of God are ostensibly the greatest of all God�s creatures. They �excel in strength� (Psalm 103:20) and �know all things that are in the earth� (II Samuel 14:20). They can fly at incredible speeds (Daniel 9:21�23); their legions are innumerable (Hebrews 12:22).

As powerful spirit beings, they are normally invisible to human eyes, though they definitely reside in this space/time universe and sometimes are near us in great numbers (II Kings 6:16,17). Despite their great power, they are still finite creatures, created by God as His own �ministers� (literally �servants��Psalm 104:4) and also as �ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation� (Hebrews 1:14). These faithful, powerful, wise, swift, numberless servants of God �do His commandments, harkening unto the voice of His word� (Psalm 103:20).

In two respects, however, they are limited in ability and destiny, at least in comparison to human beings: First, they are not able to reproduce and multiply, as Adam and Eve were commanded (Genesis 1:28; Matthew 22:30). Second, they were not �created in the image of God� (Genesis 1:27), as men and women were.

But to redeem the fallen creation, God Himself, in Christ, became man, died for sin, and rose again. For a time, He was made �a little lower than the angels� (Hebrews 2:7), �for the suffering of death� (Hebrews 2:9). Now, as the �heir of all things� (Hebrews 1:2), He is �gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him� (I Peter 3:22). Thus, not only by His eternal pre-existence, but now also by His human inheritance, He is far �better than the angels.�

--The Man In The Glory

�Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven� (Acts 1:11).

This familiar message of the angels to the disciples as they watched Christ ascend into heaven reveals three vital truths. First, the Lord Jesus retained His human body, though now immortalized and glorified, as He returned to heaven. Second, heaven is a real place in the physical universe, because Christ, in His physical body, is now dwelling there, at the right hand of the Father. Third, He is going to come again to Earth in the same body.

This means that there is, indeed, now a great Man in the glory! It is significant that no New Testament writer details the appearance of Christ�s physical human body here on the earth.

But we do have a detailed description of His present appearance in glory! John saw Him, there on the Isle of Patmos, and it was like this: �I saw . . . one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire; And His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters. And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in His strength� (Revelation 1:12�16).

John, who saw Him in His glory, has also assured us that �when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is� (I John 3:2), and our present vile bodies shall be transformed �like unto His glorious body� (Philippians 3:21).

--God had planned an unexpected route for His people--one we read about in Exodus 14:10-22. Faced with certain death, either from Pharaoh's army or by drowning, the Israelites were near panic. But God parted the Red Sea and they walked through on dry land. The Lord sent His special angel to do special work at His command.

Years later, the Psalm writer Asaph used this event as evidence of God's mighty power. "Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters--a pathway no one knew was there! You led Your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds" (Ps. 77:19-20 NLT).

God can create roads where we see only obstacles. When the way ahead of us seems uncertain, it's good to remember what God has done in the past. He specializes in pathways in any circumstance--pathways that point us to His love and power.~~

--CHILDREN IN HEAVEN~~Angels Protect Children~

“And [David] said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

The death of a loved one is always a time of great sorrow, but the death of a beloved child is perhaps the keenest sorrow of all. Nevertheless, for the Christian believer, we “sorrow not, even as others which have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

Our text verse makes it clear that, when a child dies (even one born of a sinful relationship such as this child of David and Bathsheba), that child goes to be with the Lord in heaven. Jesus said: “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).

Heaven is thus a place where there are many “little children.” Their inherited sin-nature never yet had generated acts of willful sin, and their Maker is Himself “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), so they are safe in Him. Although there are few specific Scriptures on this subject, what we do know, both from the love of God and the Word of God, suggests that the souls of all deceased little children are with the Lord in heaven, but also those who died in early childhood (and even before birth) from every time and place since the world began.

There they, along with all those who were saved by personal faith in Christ and are now awaiting the resurrection, will receive new bodies when Christ returns to Earth. The old and lame will be young and strong again, and the children will grow to perfect maturity, for all will become “like him” (1 John 3:2). “God shall wipe away all tears” (Revelation 21:4), and all will say: “As for God, his way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30) "The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and He will deliver them." --JESUS, OUR SHEPHERD~~
-(Please Read Psalm 23)

--BIBLE MEDITATION:

�The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.� - Psalm 23:1

--DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

-The Lord Jesus Christ is described as a Shepherd three times in the New Testament. He is called the Good Shepherd in John 10:11: �I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.� That�s the past � Mount Calvary.

He is called the Chief Shepherd in 1 Peter 5:4: �And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall re�ceive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.� In the future He will return.

Finally, He is called the Great Shepherd in Hebrews 13:20-21: �� our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do His will�� That�s the present. He perfects us.

The Good Shepherd�He died for me. The Chief Shepherd�He's coming for me. The Great Shepherd�He lives for me.

--ACTION POINT:

The Good Shepherd cares for you, past, present and future. Praise Him today�thank Him for making provision for you�before you were even born.~~

--THE WONDERFUL ANGEL~~

�And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?� (Judges 13:18)

This intriguing encounter occurred during one of Israel�s periods of apostasy and servitude, when the people had been ruled for 40 years by the pagan Philistines. There was one godly couple in the tribe of Dan, however, who evidently had long been praying for a son, and God finally answered their prayers. �The angel of the LORD� came to give the good news to Manoah and his wife. The remarkable son who was to come was mighty Samson, who later would free his people.

But it is the Angel Himself who is most intriguing here. His name was �Secret,� meaning �too marvelous even to comprehend.� The same word is translated �Wonderful� in Isaiah 9:6, where it is cited as a name of the coming divine Son, whose name would also be �mighty God� and �everlasting Father.�

This �angel of the LORD� was thus none other than God the Son in one of His rare pre-incarnate appearances, or theophanies, when the invisible God manifested Himself visibly to man. There are many created angels (Hebrews 12:22), or �messengers,� of God, but on certain occasions, this One who is called �the angel of the LORD� (also �the angel of his presence,� as in Isaiah 63:9, and �the Angel which redeemed me,� as in Genesis 48:16), is clearly none other than God Himself. In such cases, it could only have been the pre-incarnate Christ, for the Bible says: �No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him� (John 1:18).

God had already revealed Himself in this way to great men of God, and now even to an unknown couple. Eventually this Angel, whose name is Wonderful, �was made flesh, and dwelt among us� (John 1:14), and will one day dwell with His people forever (Revelation 21:3). JESUS CHRIST!
