I'm pretty sure that my hip defect was caused at birth, or at least was undetected thereafter. I was breech and they had to swirl me around and pull me out by my legs. I think they might have pulled it out of the socket and it didn't go back in right. Consequently I have limited movement in that leg now. My doctor says she doesn't know what caused it but doesn't think it was at birth, which to me would be the most logical thing. I don't think all children with hip problems are diagnosed at birth. I think they should do routine mobility tests on children. I remember them doing hearing tests and vision tests and mental tests, but never physical tests in the sense of testing range of mobility etc.
