I thought I would post this for those who would like to read a few testimonies of those who have used this protocol. I found this on another forum. There are a few on here who are also using his protocol who may want to add how they are finding it.
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/message/16718I started chelating roughly a year ago, have just finished my 39 round now
at 50 DMSA and 30 ALA.
I can honestly say that I'm cured.
I haven't really wanted to be so bold and say that out loud. But it has been
a month now that I feel back to normal.
My symptoms resolved bit by bit as I went along and then quite quickly
during the last 2 months. In fact I feel really fantastic now comparatively,
and this last week I dropped almost all of my supplements (except vitamin C)
to see how I'd get on, and surprise surprise I had no problems. My energy is
back to perfect. Mental symptoms resolved, mood improved, skin issues gone
and so much more....
That feeling that 'something is deeply wrong' has disappeared and that is
the most important symptom of all to go. Throughout this illness I never
really looked that ill (except for extreme weight loss), but I knew all
along SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG. Not even the people closest to me got it
(living alone helped), nor do they get it today. It is like I got slowly
sick, then quickly sick, then slowly well, then quickly well and nobody
noticed a thing ;-)
When I stumbled upon Andy's work, I knew something was right though. And I'm
glad it was.
If there is one thing about having adrenal issues - it comes with excellent
intuition. In fact the intuition improves it seems the weaker the adrenals
get in some cases.
There are some other mild issues for me to resolve, but now I'm heading for
optimal health and will continue to chelate to make sure all is out. I have
used other methods to complement Andy's approach, but am most grateful to
Andy for warning of the dangers of chelation and charting a safe path there.
It is most certainly the most important part of everything else I used.
It is soooo nice after soooo long to have a real sense of confidence in my
health again.
:-)
Thanks to all who contributed advice along the way.
I'm very grateful.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/message/16665I post here often for a little reassurance and some "fine tuning" I
am probably on my 8-9 round of ALA and DMSA. I am 26 and got really
really sick about 2 years ago, I found a somewhat a of a decent doc
that dx'd me with adrenal problems. Every round with my supportive
therapies (cortisol, gaba etc) gets a little better. I am on 100 mg
now of ALA, I feel better on then off. I stopped Saturday, and
Sunday was'nt that pleasant (ringing, just overall wierd symptoms) but
it quickly passed and now I feel better then I did before I started
the round. I really do think this works, something happens, for some
it takes longer then others to get results, but I will tell you there
is certain hours and days that I just think wow I feel normal again,
and lately those times have been increasing. (it waxes and weans with me).
Thanks

TK--- My Story
I have never had amalgams and have always been extremely healthy and
active. I was poisoned at work through industrial exposure. I did
not know what the problem was with my deteriorating health for a long
time and only my own research helped, doctors were useless as they
did not believe me.This all started back in 1992 and there was not
much available asfar as the internet or Hg research besides what
Western medicine had to offer.
I found an alternative doctor that worked with Hgchelation and he
seemed [at the time] to know what he was doing. Idid a DDI hair
analysis and 24hr DMPS urine challenge. Both testswere extremely
high - hair off the chart. I was left with thechoice at the time of
doing nothing or trying DMSA or IV push DMPS.
I did 15 IV DMPS with no improvement besides reducing extracellular
Hg on urine tests which we all know now are not extremely accurate.
I felt worse after and my health still continued to get worse. In
retrospect we all know why now - IV push DMPS but I had to do
something at the time. The DMSA I used, following the current
protocol at the time which is the bad one we all know - Large doses
three times a day. This was horrendous and I stopped after the first
couple doses with terrible migraines that lasted over a week despite
narcotics.
After this with no improvement I tried many other things over the
years with no success and gave up on chelation for a number of years
until I ran across Andy and the Autism group back in 2001. I started
with his protocol off and on in 2002 when I could get oral DMPS which
was not frequent. I had some very early obvious, dramatic
improvement when I would chelate but it did not last and they were
sporatic . I started with small doses, 12.5mg ALA and DMPS as higher
doses were not tollerable. I tried to use DMSA again when I could
not get DMPS but could not tollerate even the smallest amount so it
was back to occasional chelation when I could get DMPS as just the
ALA caused too many side effects also.
This year 06 I had enough money to go see Julie Anderson in Seattle
and get what I needed as far as prescriptions to continue chelation
and have been chelating steadily with slow improvement.
Recently I needed to have a dental evaluation and cleaning. Even
though it is a Hg free dental office there was still enough in the
air to make my symptoms obviously worse. I had to go back to just
using DMPS for a number of weeks. Then when I added ALA back I could
not do more than 25mg,previously I was at 50mg. This lasted for
another number of weeks. Luckly after several months the symptoms
have subsided and I am now back to 40mgDMPS/6hr and 50mg ALA/3hr. I
am currently at 40mg DMPS and 75mg ALA and seemto be making more
progress.
After much research and conversation with other dentists offices I
found what I thought was a competent Hg free office. They [dentist
and staff] said they tested the office air frequently and would show
me test results. Also they said they could provide me with an
outside supplemental air supply while I was there.
They lied !! I got there and once we started I asked for both of
these and they could not be provided. After just a 45 minute visit
for x rays and evaluation I was extremely sick the next day and it
lasted for a month. I got somewhat well for a few weeks and then
relapsed for another month. After a few months when I was stable I
tried to chelate at low doses 12.5mg as I knew I was re-exposed and
can now barely handle 6mg with lots of really bad headaches.

Hi,
I only saw this message by chance, because, guess what, I *am* too busy to
regularly read this group anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
For what it's worth: I've been doing Cutler protocol chelation (ALA 30 mg
by mouth every 3 hours, on 3/11 5/11 and 9/20 schedules, occasionally
going a month or two without chelation due to other commitments). I take
the 'support supplements', mainly milk thistle, vitamin C, zink &
magnesium and EFAs, and a host of other supplements on and off over the
years, most of which have been distinctly helpful in one way or another.
I am much, much, much improved and still improving.
I started out unable to care for myself: my husband helped me dress,
shower etc. I was very, very sick, and miserable.
After having my amalgams out (and the requisite waiting period) I started
chelation. The first improvement I noticed was that my moodswings went
away: my until then volatile moods stabilized. Since then my physical and
cognitive functioning have improved dramatically. Am I fully recovered?
No. My health issues still significantly affect my life on a day to day
basis. But I have my life back. I can care for myself most days in the
month, I can make plans and keep them, the ADD is much diminished, my
dyscalculia problems have lessened spectacularly and the brain fog is
mostly gone.
I still have a lot of joint pain, fatigue (partly from the pain), issues
with food, susceptibility to yeast infections, fairly severe PMS and
allergies. But the bad days now are still better than what constituted
'good days' before chelation. On good days, I sometimes forget that
there's anything wrong with me for hours, sometimes days, on end. I have
my life back. I'm myself again.
So, yes, the Cutler protocol works. There's a substantial amount of
reading and learning required when figuring out how to tell if mercury
toxicity really is your problem and how the Cutler protocol works. But it
*works*. I'm not the expert on this protocol, so keep that in mind when
reading this message: do your own homework, make your own decisions. But
in my (non-medical!) opinion you can start simple: if you tolerate
supplements, start by supplementing with Ester C & milk thistle,
magnesium, zinc, B vitamins and EFAs. If you are amalgam free and have had
no recent exposures, chelate on a proper protocol. I only have experience
with ALA, but the proper dosing schedules are:
ALA every 3 hours or more often
DMSA every 4 hours or more often
DMPS every 8 hours or more often
Start with a low dose. Increase until you start to get side effects. Keep
it at a dose where the side effects are manageable. More won't make it go
that much faster, and it will make it that much harder.
I started with 30 mg ALA because it was the lowest dose I could find. It
made me really sick in the beginning, but after the round the improvements
were quickly noticeable. I'm still at 30 mg three years later, much less
sick during rounds, and much improved all round.
There are lots of suggestions for what else may help *while* you're
chelating in Andy's book and messages on various lists, also there are the
experiences of other people on the list to learn from.
This has been my experience, I'm posting to the list in hopes that it
might be useful to some of you.

Sarah

CC-- I've been on the cutler protocol for about 3-4 months now.
Previous to that I was on a 500mg one day one, one day off protocol -
this made me very sick. I've improved vastly on the cutler protocol -
I'm better now than at any point since I discovered I had mercury
poisoning. However I will say this - the supporting nutritional steps
Andy lays out are AS important to feelign well in the short term as
the chelation. They do not solve the problem but they do lessen the
symptoms of Hg poisoning and side effects of chelation (and in my
case cetainly allow me to chelate at a higer dose). I strikes me that
the people who have problems on cutlers protocl maybe don't get the
supporting nutrition right. And it isn't easy - I'm quite medically
literate and it took me about 2 months to work out the kinks. I can't
imagine how hard it would be if you had no medical knowledge (this is
why its good if you can find a doc/nutritionist familiar with the
protocol).
In terms of improvements I have more mental clarity and focus, better
mood, better digestion and less joint/muscle problems. I still am not
perfect and have the odd off day - but I can see thigns going the
right direction and when I look at where I was just a little while
ago - I'm delighted. I also find - if I look at it day by day its
dissillusioning - but if I look at the change from month to month I
can see the upward trend. Also - I was quite heavily poisoned - the
highest DMSA challenge result either of my docs had ever seen (I know
its a crappy test but its still an indication). I've improved vastly
in a short space of time - thanks to Andys chelation protocol. But I
think getting the nutritional support right was the key to letting my
body deal with the chelation.
Just my two cents !

Hi,
I have done 6 rounds of chelation with DMSA and ALA, Andy's protocol. I
have not seen any difference so far. I don't think I am that toxic. I
tried chelation because my 4 yo son is/was autistic, severely mercury
poisoned, and two years of chelation with Andy's protocol was nothing
short but a miracle for him.

for 8 mos, brain fog is mostly gone and brain function has improved alot,
but cns problems remain unchanged, which is discouraging.
any input, anyone??

I've done 21 rounds of DMSA/ALA or ALA alone, and my brain fog is
almost gone too. The main symptom similar to what you listed was that
my handwriting was terrible -- even when I tried hard I couldn't seem
to control the pen very well. Just lately, and suddenly, my
handwriting has returned to the way it used to be.
It's so bizarre the way I'll notice something a little strange -- like
not being able to write neatly or the way novocaine at the dentist
made me feel like I was going to die, and a ton of other things -- and
invariably either someone on this list mentions it or I find it in
Andy's book or I notice that as I chelate it goes away.

My experience, after 21 rounds AC protocol, is this: my brain fog is
about 90% better, and since that was my worst symptom, that is HUGE.
In the last few weeks I finally did Andy's fibromyalgia
recommendations, and for the first time in 7 years I can sleep the
night through with no achiness. Amazing.
I'm a Cutler fan because his protocol has nearly recovered my son from
autism, so I've been watching that slow steady, sometimes incredible,
progress for a few years. My own progress has definitely been slower,
and I credit much of my improvement so far to supplements. But I've
read too many posts over the years about kids and adults doing
horribly on protocols other than Cutler's -- so even though it's slow,
it seem to be safest.
I think you're right to ask for success stories. I wish people would
write up their stories before disappearing...

On the Exercise Issue:
My first amalgam fillings
across from other teeth that required gold crowns were
done when I was about 23 years old. I was working as
an airline agent and I bid shifts that covered other
agents days off. This gave me a variety of tasks
including baggage handling. This exercise provided a
reasonable amount of anaerobic exercise and I didn't
have any major issues with the fillings at that time.
A couple of years after going into marketing was when
one disaster after another began happening. No doctor
even asked about possible dental issues.
I have been following Andy's protocol with 25mg DMSA
every 4 hours, 4 days on and 12 days off, for the last
4 months. I am taking the supplements he recommends
to help support my system during this process. I will
be adding the ALA to my next session beginning
Wednesday.
Results so far? I actually feel hunger pains again.
I have a strong sense of smell for the first time in
years. My dreams at night are better than going to a
Hollywood Sci-Fi movie. My image memory has returned.
I can remember visual scenes versus the general
memory of having gone to COSTCO to do my shopping
yesterday. There's my receipt to prove it. (I
haven't had that since 1982 when I passed out at my
desk at work.)
The program is working. I look forward to maintaining
this for the next couple of years, then going onto a
quarterly, or semi-annual repeat of the ALA + DMSA to
ensure that I remove any mercury that I might
accidently be exposed to within a building, or via
medications.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/message/8101 I just wanted to share that on my last chelation round last week, I increased to
200 mgs. DMSA and 200 mgs. ALA. This increase was after chelating for four
months. Today I started another round at this same dosage. The effects that I
have noticed with the increased are as per usual for me, emotional and
psychiatric, e.g. irritability, feeling kind of wired and very very restless.
Other than that, the usual fatigue that I always experience anyway.
I would like to say that I have had a lot of improvement since beginning
chelation per Andy's protocol in August. I truly have hope now that I can
recover from both my CFS and mood issues. I finally got to the right doctors,
besides my chelation doctor, who gave me the cortef and will give me thyroid as
soon as I get my adrenals stronger with a couple of weeks of cortef. He did a
salivary cortisol test and said my adrenals were in bad shape (as if I didn't
know). I'm hoping that with this support now, I can feel even better while I
continue to chelate. Basically I have gone from being so weak and debilitated
that I could barely take a shower to functioning pretty well again, including
driving and getting groceries at supermarket. I am able to do chores around the
house again and have the energy to keep up with most things. I still am not
near well enough to be able to resume outside employment. I still have to pace
myself and rest when my body says so. I take lots and lots of supplements which
also help me a lot, primarily flax seed oil, fish oil, all the B's in liquid
form, C with bioflavonoids, milk thistle, custom ordered amino acids per my
deficiencies, B12 injection every week, selenium and vitamin E, zinc, digestive
enzymes, HCL, and lecithin.
I have found this to all be very helpful. Andy's book has been my saving grace,
truly, and since the beginning, everything that the doctor has been able to find
on a test, I have been able to verify and validate in Andy's book which has been
a real comfort.
My boyfriend had his amalgams out 6 years ago and decided to join me in
chelation with ALA alone, incase he had mercury left in body, especially in
brain. He started in August also with 100 mgs. ALA per Andy's schedule. Now he
is up to 200 mgs. ALA and truly, I have seen a different man unfold in front of
my eyes after 4 months of his chelation with ALA. He has gone from being in a
bad mood a lot of the time and also some depression, to being upbeat and in a
good mood and doing things I've never seen him do. What used to be a total
chore for him is now a joy.
Thank you all in this group
and Thank you Andy Cutler

I think you're right.
I was highly skeptical at first, given that I felt pretty lousy when I
first started the protocol. But I have to admit, after scaling my
dosage back down to 25/25 and sticking with it, I do feel much better
today than I did 4 months ago (I too started in December).
I was even hesitant to post this, given my penchant for having spells
of feeling pretty good and then later plunging back down into ill
health (that infamous roller coaster ride), but I've felt consistently
pretty good for about a month now. My troughs are not as low, my
energy level is gradually, but seemingly steadily, improving, and my
mood is much better. For example, today I worked a full 8+ hours,
lifted weights for 45 minutes, and ran the elliptical trainer for 30
minutes, followed by 20 minutes in the sauna. I feel quite good, and
would have never been able to do this 4 months ago.
I feel like there is still work to be done, but I definitely feel like
I'm on the right path.

I began taking ALA once a day...50 mgs about a year and a half

once per day....I was struggling with walking and I had extreme
burning and weakness in my arms!! After seeing myriad quack doctors
who diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and tried to put me on anti-

Andy's book! Thank god I used his approach and not the IV DMPS that
some doctors were pushing...after taking ALA every two

neuro symptoms faded....and my mood began to improve in fits and
starts! Deep depression would come out of nowhere...or crazy
anxiety....sometimes while chelating....sometimes during the

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/adult-metal-chelation/message/30985At my worst, almost four years ago, I was so physically and mentally exhausted I
struggled to get out of bed and seldom even had energy to watch TV; had
eczema/fungus growing rapidly all over my body 24/7, which caused itching (and
pain as I killed it off with natural antifungals) so that I could seldom sleep;
poor circulation so I had to rub my arms to get blood to my hands; phlegm in my
throat that I had to keep spitting up; ringing in my ears; a strange, occasional
'overheating', mainly around my head; dreadfully shaky nerves and brain fog;
allergy to EVERY food except organic potatoes, soya beans, cauliflower and
broccoli, plus bottled water. The allergy caused pain in all my joints and
exasperated all my other symptoms. I eventually worked out that my body "forgot"
any food that I didn't eat regularly and reacted to it when I restarted.
I couldn't take any kind of supplement because of my allergy and was only able
to take ALA (thank God!) because it's a constituent of potatoes and my body was
used to it.
I'd been chelating previously with ALA, but at the end of about 6 months from my
lowest/worst point, during which I'd been taking 250mg of ALA 6 times a day with
only an occasional break, I found that my food allergies had cleared up for
nearly everything (in my usual vegan diet) not full of artificial ingredients
and herbicides/pesticides. I was even able to eat gluten that I hadn't been able
to tolerate since a teenager, and which I'd never connected with mercury. ALL my
other symptoms either vanished entirely (like the phlegm, tinnitus and poor
circulation) or improved 80-90%.
What people must bear in mind, however, is that chelating usually takes a long,
long, LONG time. A year (particularly since it's only likely to be about 6-7
months of actual chelation) is NOTHING. Babies and youngsters, because of their
relative body size, can be messed up by tiny amounts of mercury which can be
cleared out relatively quickly. This is NOT true of most adults. I waited about
10 months after amalgam removal before starting with ALA and had been chelating
at about 200mg a dose for over 3 years (about 65% of the time) before my "worst"
point that I mention above. And because of my increasing allergies, I was FAR
worse than before I had the amalgams out.
Just as there is often a slow decline in health as mercury slowly builds up in
the body, followed by a sudden plummet after the 'toxic' point has been reached,
so that problems rapidly and severely escalate, so there is often a slow
improvement and then a large improvement as mercury levels in the body are
reduced. At least that's the way it was with me, with my severe allergies
suddenly clearing up. What would otherwise be slow improvement, however, is
masked by the continual stirring up and movement of the mercury out of the body
- which can actually make you worse, as many people on this list are well aware.
I took a full 5 months break from chelating at one point, however, and felt a
LOT better at the end of that period.
Terry
