Mercury
For years, the American Dental Association claimed that amalgam (a.k.a. "silver") dental fillings were safe. Now, new scientific information is available that reveals that these fillings offgas considerable amounts of mercury into the oral cavity.
The recent years, the public has also become aware that pharmaceutical companies have been adding mercury to vaccines for use as a preservative. Mercury also remains in some vaccines because of processing and is never removed.
Since the dramatic adverse health effects of mercury are well-known, and it is known that mercury is harbored in the body and accumulates over time, many are beginning to wonder if the fillings they had as a child has caused their diseases later in life.
Mercury toxicity has been associated with:
- cancer,
- diabetes,
- nearsightedness,
- farsightedness,
- hypothyriod conditions,
- arthritis,
- Alzheimer's disease,
- elevated homocysteine,
- heart disease,
- high cholesterol,
- balding,
- acne,
- heartburn,
- fibromyalgia,
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome),
- candida
|
- immune system suppression,
- migraines,
- tinnitus (ringing in the ears),
- insomnia,
- bruxism (grinding teeth),
- hormonal imbalances,
- weight gain,
- depression,
- shyness,
- withdrawl,
- various phobias,
- emotional detachment,
- antisocial behavior,
- autism,
- and many more.

The American Dental Association has stated its position on harm caused by mercury years ago, dismissing any responsibility despite that fact that they continuously promote mercury-based fillings as safe:
"The American Dental Association (ADA) owes no legal duty of care to protect the public from allegedly dangerous products used by dentists. The ADA did not manufacture, design, supply or install the mercury-containing amalgams. The ADA does not control those who do. The ADA's only alleged involvement in the product was to provide information regarding its use. Dissemination of information relating to the practice of dentistry does not create a duty of care to protect the public from potential injury."
—The Superior Court of the State of California,
Case No. 718228, Demurrer (October 22, 1992)
Based on this statement, Dentists may want to consider if they should continue to support an organization that dismisses itself from responsibility (and legal liability) of an action that it openly encourages its members to engage in (installing mercury-based fillings), especially considering that they (the ADA) disclaim this liability by using terms that specifically describe the services that dentists perform—"supply" and "install".
