HART on CD
How To

This page explains how to install the HART On CD program on Microsoft Windows Vista. To ensure success, please follow these steps carefully.

How To Install & Run the
HART On CD Program
on Microsoft Windows Vista

Microsoft has made sufficient changes to their new operating system—"Vista"—to cause many existing programs to fail. HART On CD has also experienced issues while running and while installing updates.

We have assembled an installation procedure that works with Vista and corrects these problems. This procedure is outlined below.

If you're attempting to install HART On CD updates (either from a CD or from links on our website) on Vista, you will likely run into issues as well, for this reason we recommend that you download the program from the internet to avoid having to install any updates. Instructions for doing this along with a download link are provided below.

Step #1: Download HART On CD

You can download the complete HART On CD program by clicking the link below. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions on this page.

Click Here to Download HART On CD

After clicking the link (above), a window will appear that says, "Do you want to run or save this file? Click the button labeled "Run".

Next, the download progress window will appear. The download process may take several minutes because the HART On CD program is fairly large.

When the download is complete, a window will appear that says, "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?". Click the button labeled "Run".

After 10 to 30 seconds, a new window may (or may not, depending on your system settings) appear that says, "An unidentified process wants access to your computer." Click the arrow next to the word "Allow".

Step #2: Install HART On CD

After 10 to 60 seconds, a window will appear that says, "Welcome to the HART On CD installation program.". On this window, click "OK".

After a few seconds, another window will appear that says, "Begin the installation by clicking the button below." Click the large button with the picture of the computer and monitor.

Next, a window will appear asking about a program group. Click the button labeled "Continue".

On the next window, decide whether or not you would like to have a desktop icon automatically created (to start the HART On CD program) by clicking the appropriate radio button. Now, click the button labeled "Continue".

PLEASE NOTE: Some installations of Windows Vista will not display the desktop icon even though you requested it.

Now, HART On CD will begin to install.

PLEASE NOTE: If, during the installation procedure, you get a "Version Conflict" message that says, "A file being copied is not newer than a file currently on your system.", click the "Yes" button each time this window appears.

PLEASE NOTE: If, during the installation procedure, you get a "Confirm File Replace" message that says, "The target file exists and is newer than the source. Overwrite the newer file?.", click the "No to All" button.

Installation should continue normally.

Next, a window will appear stating that the installation was completed successfully. Click the "OK" button.

Finally, a window will appear that says, "To complete the installation, please restart your computer when this installer closes." Click the "OK" button.

Step #3: Run The Program

Now we can start the HART On CD program.

IMPORTANT: Because you are using Windows Vista, you must start the program as instructed below, otherwise, you will encounter errors and the program will not run properly.

Click the Windows start button (this is usually the round Window's emblem in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen).

Now, move your mouse over the item called, "All Programs". After a moment, a list of programs that are installed on the computer will appear.

Now, click the folder icon labeled, "HART On CD".

A new item labeled, "HART On CD" will appear. This item should have a red heart icon next to it. Right-click on the red heart icon.

A menu should appear. On this menu, click "Run as Administrator".

NOTE: If you're using the new 1.60 version of the program, you do not need to right-click on the program icon each time you want to start it. With 1.60, this problem has been resolved. If you're running any previous version of the program, this step is still necessary.

The HART On CD program should now begin running.

Step #4: Authorize The Program

IMPORTANT: If you have an authorization key that has already been used (perhaps your computer crashed and you are re-installing the program) then you will need to obtain an authorization code from Herb Allure by calling the technical support number at 716-664-2573 between about 3pm until 11pm eastern standard time. In this case, you do not need to continue with these instructions. We will help you complete the installation and authorization procedure when you call.

If you do not know if the authorization key has been used or not, you can continue with the instructions below. The program will notify you if the authorization key diskette has already been used. If this is the case, you can stop following these instructions and give our technical support number a call. For now, you can just click "Cancel" on the authorization window and allow the program to close until you contact us.

If your computer does not have a floppy drive, then you will need to obtain an authorization code from Herb Allure by calling our technical support number between about 3pm until 11pm eastern standard time. In this case, you do not need to continue with these instructions. We will help you complete the installation and authorization procedure when you call.

Now, a window will appear that says, "HART On CD Authorization". In the bottom-right area of this window, select drive "A" from the drop-down box labeled "Select Your Floppy Drive".

Now, insert your HART On CD Authorization Key Diskette (NOT the CD), into your floppy drive.

Now, click the "OK" button on the bottom of this window.

Next, a window will appear that says, "The HART On CD program has successfully retrieved an electronic key from the Authorization Diskette." Click the button labeled "OK".

NOTE: If you do not see this message or if you receive a different message, please contact Herb Allure technical support for help.

Now, the HART On CD program should open.

To learn how to use the program, please read through the supplied manual entitled "Installation and Operation".

If you would like to watch a "quick-start" video tutorial on using the program, click the following link: HART On CD Demo

If you experience any unusual problems during this process, please feel free to call Herb Allure technical support and we'll be happy to help you.

PLEASE REMEMBER: If you're using Windows Vista, you will have to start the HART On CD program by right-clicking it and then clicking on "Run as Administrator" each time you open the program. This is a confirmed issue with Windows Vista. Microsoft will (hopefully) provide a downloadable fix for it in the future.
